He should be fired if Everton don't win the cup.

He should be got rid of regardless. They have a good crop of youngsters and they need to be proactive before they lose them all.

I was going to say that but it's been twenty years since they won a cup and it'd be a bit mad of them to sack a manager after winning one. Although I think it would be delaying the inevitable.

Sack him now then. It's reached the stage now looking at the performances that the players are playing for themselves and each other, not him. They want to win the Cup, so they'll perform there. Yesterday was like downed tools.

The amount of hatred Everton fans have showed towards Martinez is disgusting. If only they showed the same support. We scored 4 past Dortmund, a team 10x better than Everton. That was against 11 men too!

In the last 14 years Everton have had 2 managers, Liverpool have had 6 full time and some interim managers. Most of them lost jobs because fans turned against them.

This is the best squad of players we have had for 30 years and he has destroyed their confidence and team spirit with his insistance on his 'philosophy'. It clearly does not work yet he will not change it.

"Most" is not true. Apart from Hodgson and Rodgers none of the managers got a bad treatment from the majority of the fans. Woy had us fighting relegation! Rodgers blew millions, still got full 3 season+. Even then the opinions were divided.

Who do you think can realistically replace Martinez?

Martinez has overseen both of Everton's worst derby defeats (4-0 on both occasions) since Liverpool won 5-0 at Goodison in November 1982.

Unfortunately, it's just a matter of time before he goes.

I was surprised he did so well in his first season, and I held my hands up at the time and admitted I was wrong in my assessment when they took him on. However, since then, it's almost as if he's been determined to prove me right. Was it really ever a good idea for a club with European ambitions (albeit on a budget) to employ a man who immediately prior had just relegated another team? It would appear not given that they're heading for their worst finish in over a decade despite arguably having their best squad during that same timeframe.

The side that included Gravesen, Arteta, Cahill, Yobo, Yakubu etc. was better imo

It's marginal either way. But a side containing a backbone of Stones, Mirallas, Barkley and Lukaku shouldn't be in the bottom half of the table.

I don't think bringing back Moyes would be a bad move

Same here, although they do say never go back. Seems ideal to me though. A manager who is familiar with the club and who is free at the moment. Martinez's position long term is surely untenable after last night. I've made no secret that I don't rate Moyes, but at least you know what you get with him. He's a reliable but very limited manager. But that brand of solid, drab football is just what Everton need right now.

Why? He's still a good manager despite his stock falling over the past two years. Why Rodgers?

Very true. Also, without trying to sound like a dig at the man or the club, they both have the same ceiling of ability, Europa League and a small threat to the top 4 now and then, plus the odd cup run.

Everton just need a good manager. Good managers can play a number of different ways. There was a great tweet about Arsenal the other day which said "trying to play a possession game only is like playing rock, paper, scissors with just a rock." I don't think it was necessarily fair on Arsenal as we've played the counter-attack, and a pressing game, to great effect a few times this season and last, but Martinez is even more inflexible than Wenger. He's seen as an idealist, but he's basically incompetent. There might still be a good manager in Moyes but he's failed in his last two jobs and is damaged goods. I'm not certain Rodgers is much better than Martinez. I don't really know who's on the market so I can't help out, soz.

Benitez used to get pelters on here (TFF) off certain Liverpool supporters...

I'll need a shower here after defending Moyes, but I don't think the last two jobs he has had should reflect on his ability to manager Everton again. The United job was always too big for him, to touch on Skinner's point about his ceiling. It was a shit decision from day one and should never had happened, the fact United have barely improved under Van Gaal doesn't really detract from that. And I don't believe he was ready for managing a team in another country like what happened with Sociedad, his brand of management, the only one he's capable of, simply doesn't suit it.

If Everton and the fans don't mind going back to what they had with Moyes, I think it would be a good decision to take him back. The problem is whether they will be happy with that. His football style is shit, but effective. If they want something more exciting to watch, they will need to take a further chance and go elsewhere.

Me too mate. I remember a few Everton fans saying what a breath of fresh air Martinez was six months in the job compared to Moyes and I pointed out that one swallow doesn't make a summer.

Moyes would be a great move for Everton IMO but if I was him I'd fuck England off for a bit and go and clean up in Scotland for a few years with Celtic.

His football style is not shite at all, you are rewriting history. And he built some great Everton sides when they didn't have a pot to piss in and every good player was sold from under his nose.

It's shit, boring, and he's far more concerned with not losing than winning. Sorry mate.

Yeah I don't think Everton were particularly bad to watch under him, they were a bit direct but it wasn't just hoofball, there was a lot of width and wing play involved. They were very organised as a unit defensively and suffocated the middle of the park.

With the players Everton have now, Moyes would be the ideal candidate.
