I actually agree. For the squad Everton have got, they should have done far better over the last season and a half. The football can be easy on the eye and at times destructive when everybody is on it. But Martinez's sides have never been able to defend and it appears to be getting worse and worse in this respect. There will be managers out there who can balance the nice football with collective team defending far better than Martinez can.

Looks to me that Everton lack some guile. They move very predictably and in straight lines. I don't know if it's tactical or the players. But they just look very easy to set up against if you are the away side.

Moyes used to deliver 5-7 place finishes with inferior squads. Apparently Martinez's win % with Everton is the same he had with Wigan, 29%.

If Martinez does get the boot, put your money on Kenwright getting straight on the phone to Moyesy.

Presumably Everton fans want someone who can focus more on the defence and stop the side conceding so many goals, and is less obsessed with the attacking fluid style and buying attackers?

Howe  He'd do your heads in. he's very similar to Martinez. Maybe not quite as barmy though. He also doesn't like living anywhere that doesn't have a beach for his dogs and is north of Ringwood.

I wish I was!

I really do rate Martinez and for me it shows how fickle football fans are these days that as soon as a team goes on a poor run, they want their manager gone.

You only have to listen to a Martinez interview to know he is switched on and knows the game. I really think Everton would struggle to get better.

Edit: A quick look on Wikipedia shows he has lost just 34 of his 124 games in charge at Everton. Do you seriously believe you could find a manager who would do better than an average of only 1 loss every 4 games?

Just as an FYI, his total in 124 games is Won 54, Drawn 36, Lost 34

It's not just a poor run though, they've only won six of their 23 league games this season. That's inexcusable with that squad.

I don't think he should be sacked btw, but I don't think he could complain too much if he was.

The problem is, as I see it, our win ratio will get worse. I have no confidence in him for the future. We are looking to sell club to rich Americans and we need a better manager. This season we have dropped far too many points from winning positions. Martinez has no plan B. Yesterday when we were 2-1 down he brought a defender on and left Kone and Lennon on the bench.

Sounds like he'd be ideal as Arsene's successor!

I doubt Gates is up to snuff as a football manager either - he could afford to get Messi and Ronaldo in though so he probably wouldn't need to be.

Can see our fans wanting him gone if we don't improve soon. He clearly can't coach teams how to defend, and hasn't appointed anyone to do it for him. If he refuses to learn he won't last much longer. Seems to think Tim Howard being at fault for a goal in nearly every game is acceptable too

This season we have dropped far too many points from winning positions. Martinez has no plan B. Yesterday when we were 2-1 down he brought a defender on and left Kone and Lennon on the bench.

In fairness (and trust me, I've been criticising hos baffling subs all season) I think given we had already been forced into 2 subs, Coleman wasn't a bad sub to make as he is obviously way more attacking than Oviedo. I actually think the first 2 subs for the injuries were worse. Cleverley is absolute dogs and just runs around doing nothing, so nothing like Besic, and Pienaar is finished.

Anyway, I've had my say about this in my blog on here. I think the next week is crucial to Martinez's entire Everton future. It's only the League Cup run that's keeping his neck above water for me, same as Smith in 2002. So if we go out on Wednesday, it's all on Newcastle next week. If Howard starts, I want him out, because it shows he is either insane or so pig stubborn, he will keep putting an individual happy over the good of the team. And nothing in the long term will change. If Joel starts against Newcastle, he saves his neck because it indicates he's willing to change and learn, which gives me hope things will turn around.

As for those saying we're fickle and it's just a bad run, take a look at our home record since the start of last season. It's dreadful. And we are drawing too many away games to save it. 6 wins all season, only 3 at home is pitiful. I said around March last year before we played Newcastle and QPR that if we didn't win those 2 games, we were in a relegation fight, but whatever happened, I would judge Martinez on his 3rd season, because his first was so good, it gave him some leeway when last season was so bad. This is his 3rd season, and we have zero consistency. Fantastic form of the likes of Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley has carried us for much of the season, but as a team, I don't think I've seen us play a good 90 minutes in the league all season. We have a good half and a bad half every week. We had the excuse of Europe last season, and a horrible spell of injuries. There are no such excuses this season.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
2 defeats in the next 2 games and he'll be gone.

you'll be excused losing to man City, but not if you also went out of Fa Cup.

I don't know whether I want you to get through or not midweek, do I want your players and manager in a wembley final and thus not taking the FA cup game too seriously, or do I want your players and manager at Carlisle under immense pressure and threat of sack looming.

I think it's better for you if we win. As I see us more likely to take our eye off the ball after a good win, rather if we're looking for a reaction, I'd expect to see one

You lot are living on a different planet, a couple of defeats and he will be gone? I think not.

Everton may look at the situation in the summer but there is no way they are going to fire Martinez because he's only in midtable, even if that drops to lower midtable.

I dont think he will get sacked, I just think it should be considered though. You're right though, I said the same last season, Kenwright isnt one for sacking. I can honestly only see him getting sacked before the end of the season if we went into a total freefall and were in the bottom 3 with a few games left. Like I mentioned Smith, before Moyes got the job, we had won 1 League game between mid December and Smith getting the sack after losing 3-0 at Boro in the FA Cup quarter final in March. That cup run was all that kept him in the job for so long, so the second we went out, he was gone.

Interestingly, we are on a similar run right now in the League. Newcastle on Boxing Day is our only League win since November.
