Well the turning point at Prenton park today came when Tranmere subbed Maynard and brought on Blisset. Borehamwood made use of the extra space down the right and immediately scored. Tranmere looked ok playing the ball on the deck but with the introduction of Blisset went for the long hoof instead.
Well done Borehamwood, deserved the 3 points today. No doubt will upset a few teams this season with quality players such as Doe, Woodards, Shakes and a few other lesser well known players.
Some Tranmere fans broke out into a chorus of boos at the final whistle, come on guys, 10 points out of 15 is a good start in any league.

I thought Boreham Wood would be completely overwhelmed at this level considering how small a club they where even for the league below, it's great to see them competing.

Made some very good signings for Conference level, good location helps them too I think. Bit of a bump down to earth for Tranmere mind.

Feel for Torquay too, want them to do well this year but that's 2 or 3 times now they've failed to hang on.

Unfortunately you're in the same situation we were in, where losing to any part-time (Boreham Wood are PT aren't they?) outfit the majority of fans haven't heard of leads to booing and 'end of the world' time stuff.

Thank Christ we never did that at home, but as you say I think Boreham Wood are a bit better than the typical bottom of the league fodder.

After watching Torquay today i genuinely fear for their future attendances, didn't seem like any of them were capable of stringing 2 passes together just lumping the ball into the box at every oppurtunity hoping for some luck and fair play, it worked for 45 mins, but it is soul destroying to watch.
If we were dishing out absolute shite like that i for one i would defintely be keeping my cash in my pocket and would not pay a bean to watch it, i feel sorry for Torquay's supporters getting that garbage served up week on week.
Absolute worlds apart from the Torquay side that turned us over here last year.
The sooner Cox fucks off, the better for you IMO.

While it is soul destroying, it is effective, as you found in the first half today.

The last two and a half years have been unbelievably shit to be a Torquay fan - yeah we may have been superb at BP last season under Hargreaves, but unfortunately those sort of performances were often undone by 4/5 games where we were shit and getting beaten.

At the end of the day, if Cox gets us back in the FL in the next couple of years I could not give two shits. This league is horrible (especially being an outpost as we are - already racked up not far off 1500 miles) so the sooner we sort ourselves out, the better. I think we're on the way to doing that now.

EDIT: A look at your forum shows a bit of meltdown. Wowzers.

Yep, that's the 'Welcome to the Conference' that Tranmere have been delaying since the start of the season. They've almost arrived. Just need a gutless away defeat to Dover or someone and they will be official.

Alty next week would be quite fitting, I think

Wrong. Given Torquay's current situation and limited budget, Cox is a pretty decent person to have in charge. The football won't be pretty, everyone knows that, but it does get results. For the meantime they could do a lot worse than to have him whilst they stabilise their club.

So do you think the vast majority of your fans will happily keep paying to watch knowing what they will be watching?
That sort of style will get you so far but will never get you back in the league not with the money fliating about the non league scene nowadays to buy players who can actually pass a ball.
As today shows, effective for 45 mins, then when we changed our style at half time you went home very lucky to take a point, and you were still time wasting at 2 - 2 so shows what Torquay came here for.
Re our forum, everybody should know by now not to take The Fishy seriously!!

Torquay fully deserved to lose 3-1 against us. They were lucky to go in at half time with a 1-0 lead. Please don't feel sorry for them.

So far this season, the stats suggest that Wrexham are more likely to turn awesome football into goals in the second half of games. 8 out of 11 have come in the second half, with only 1 conceded.

Today followed that pattern. And Jesus Christ what a rush that Dom Vose one was. Love a late winner.

Wow, where did this post come from, and from the master of wind ups to boot. Very true, every word of it though.

A meltdown on The Fishy? Never! I can't wait to see their take on our aerial bombardment next week. Just imagine the scenes if a certain Mr Hearn scores.

I went to Barnsley v Bradford today and it was shit. Seriously, it was a game that wouldn't have looked out of place down here.

Loving this anti Paul Cox stuff, keep it coming ladies. Back in June we didn't know if our club would remain in this league or even survive, we're still not totally out of the woods, 90 % of our squad are 21 years old or under, if Paul Cox keeps getting results like this, with all thing considered, we'll forgive the style of football and give him the freedom of the Bay.

After all Chris Hargreaves tippy, tappy football saw us beaten home and away by Telford last term, and included a 1.5 defeat at home to Braintree, amongst a few other disasters.

I agree with this. I'm sure eventually Gulls fans will get fed up of the direct stuff but better a team that try, however limited the football, than what they had for most of last season?

That said I'm not sure how often I'd pay to go and watch it.

The financial position that our club is in, what choice do we have ? We pay to watch, or potentially lose our club. However, as said, at the end of the day, football is results business and if your winning who cares, we got out of this division in 2009 playing hoofball, with an average gate over 3,000, not hit that level since, including two promotion near misses back in league 2.

Well, I think we're going to be down here for a while based on that.

Fair play to Boreham Wood. We were outplayed, outfought, and rather embarrassingly out sung by the 50 or so travelling fans.

I'd have clapped them off if I hadn't ducked out after the second goal. Couldn't take it any more, it was utterly dire.

With regards to Torquay/Cox/style of play, do people turn up for results or style?

Results > style. You're more likely to get people through the gates smashing it 80 yards and winning rather than playing lovely football and losing IMO.

The two aren't mutually exclusive though. It could soon get quite tiring if Torquay are languishing in 15th in January, whereas Mansfield fans obviously didn't get a shit about it when they won the league.

Look i didn't mean to start a debate on it, my point was that i think Torquays crowds will soon drop with this style of football, if people disagree and Torquays fans are happy to pay and watch it then fair enough, just that i know i would not pay knowing what was coming.
If it pissed off any of the Torquay lot on here then i apologise, it was not meant to.

Just wondering when the Football Conference are going to start issuing point deductions for the use of smoke bombs? I'm pretty sure they made quite a big deal of making all Conference clubs post a statement about the use of pyrotechnics before the season started. So have Chester suffered any repercussions having already set off two this season - one five minutes into the season vs Braintree and today vs us?

Time to really CLAMP DOWN on this.

They are a bit defensive about it. No pun intended.

Correct but my point being that results, first and foremost, get people through the gates and the style of it will add a few more.

That's the first time I've seen Tranmere beaten by non league oppo, think I'm going to have to get used to it!

Are people really complaining about Paul Cox teams like they didn't expect hoofball merchants?

If it works there will always be teams who do it. Yes it's not pretty, but you'd rather see your side playing it than losing out to a team doing it while you knock it about nicely on the floor while never breaking through. That is the position Torquay find themselves in.

Outclassed by Boreham Wood, who thoroughly deserved their win. None of the Rovers players deserved much credit for such a spineless performance and although pre-match I thought we'd scrape a win, in reality we've been fairly lucky to beat Woking and Halifax.

Can we put the gutless away performance on hold for a bit please?
