Just got back from the Whaddon Road library, didn't hear a peep from them all night except when they scored in the 90th minute only for it to be chalked off (again!).
Really good open game of football, but I think it'll be mid-table mediocrity for us and Cheltenham after watching that - both lacking a bit of quality in front of goal.
I actually thought we deserved 3 points tonight, our new signing Rhys Browne was the best player on the park by a mile and carved Cheltenham open so many times. They looked poor defensively and offered nothing going forward, Gary Johnson has a lot of work to do to get them challenging.
Just a shame we lost Williams and replaced him with Barnes-Homer, who looks unfit and lazy. If we had a goalscorer we'd have beaten Cheltenham tonight.

FC U of Man 1-2 FC County of Stockport. Came from behind, too.

Gutted I couldn't be there, no chance of a ticket though. If it was up to me there'd have been a free one for everyone who went to that game at Grimsby, grumble grumble

Yeah we are missing 2/3 players who would be in the starting XI Cox would prefer to play. Our captain and best player, Luke Young, is one of them.

That starting XI played together for the first time on Saturday so tonight wasn't going to be a fluid performance. Anyway, I'm sure Cox would have taken a lot from it and we go on to Saturday at the Shay.

Sounds from all accounts it would have been a steal if we'd even held on for a point, even if the third goal sounds a poor call from the ref. No complaints here - 3-1 isn't a complete hammering, even if the performance was extremely one-sided. I've backed you guys to get promoted this year too, so it's no disgrace in my book.

I thought you were very organised and at half time I was starting to worry that we'd never get back into it. We were playing to Geohagons strengths and he wasn't giving an inch. Second half we used our pace to get behind your back four and from then on the goals were always going to come.

I thought the player you brought on up front in the second half (didn't catch the name, double barrelled I think) was a definite improvement and looked dangerous.

I'm not sure if want to watch you every week. No plan other than launching the ball down field. But you already look hard to beat and you'll pick up your fair share of 1 nils.

Alfreton 0-1 Lowestoft (Reed 60)

All the preseason optimism has evaporated as we were absolutely dire tonight. Creating no clear cut chances. The closest we came to a goal was a deflected Thanoj Freekick which went Inches wides.

Lowestoft goal was a gift as a defensive error allowed Reed to round Draper and slam it home.

And to add insult to Injury Dan Bradley was sent off AGAIN tonight for a late and dangerous challenge. He has now made 1 official appearance and has been sent off twice. Not the actions of a responsible club captain!

Its early doors but the signs are extremely worrying

That can't be right, I thought you won the league last month having beaten a second string League 2 side?

You aren't the first club to bankrupt it's future chasing the dream beyond its natural environs only to fall like a stone through the leagues when the gravy train hits the buffers. You're only in the early stages of the process at the minute. Never mind at least you can look forward to renewing your acquaintance with fellow travellers Hyde next season and Droylsden the year after. :ds:

Yep. Should be stripped of the captaincy at the very least IMO. Saturday was unforgivable and tonight just topped it off. Shame too because when he puts his mind to it he can rip this league apart.
In a normal league he would have been suspended for tonight but now you have dropped down to Conference North god knows when they will kick in.

Cracking win for us tonight, superb first half, 45 mins of total dominance, then second half started slowly for 10 mins before we killed it off with 2 more, then we got really sloppy and Barrow had 2 good chances before they got their consolation in injury time.
It was so comfortable that Nsiala even tried to score a free-kick from about 50 yards out!

Listened in on the radio, and it didn't sound good from a Barrow perspective. Set up to defend and messed up big time.
At least it's our "hardest game" out of the way, and lessons learnt. We'll be mid-table, I'm pretty confident.
Elliott Newby scored in his first appearance from the bench, and he'll be a star in this league if he's still here at the end of the season.

Nice performance. Everything clicked attacking-wise. Defense was slightly loose and we let them in too often. Toto, despite his goal, was quite shaky and accident prone. Cook, though a handful, didn't live up to chipmunx' aclaims...

Poor first half from the Shaymen, about as sharp as a bag of wet mice up front, did some OK stuff on the counter but ultimately the team didn't seem used to each other. It really got horrible towards the end of that half an it was a relief to hear the referee's whistle.

The second half marked a marginal improvement, and we were finally firing shots in. Nice one from Bolts into the top right just tipped out by Worsnop, then of course the Hat's "goal" might've stood in another game. Not too many but they weren't nonexistent. God I would've loved that final free kick to be the equaliser, would've been a great boost for us, a great way of shutting up the opposition and a reward for not being one to leave early. We're actually looking threatening from free kicks in good positions for once. Other positives? We didn't give up I guess. I'm not sure what else to say, but it wasn't completely gormless and there was some life in a team searching for its first goal of open play.

We won't be the 24th best team in this league...

Would be interested to hear some Chester views of the game.

Our forum and facebook is predictably suicidal.
There were some better signs from you in the second half, I'm sure you'll improve and get going. I think that was our ninth meeting since we reformed and it was the least threatened I’ve felt against you though.

Thought in the first half we were excellent, bar some wayward passing at times. We did sit back and invite pressure on to ourselves unnecessarily again though, much like we did on Saturday. But for Glennon we could have scored a few, probably should have really and wrapped the game up. But we’re more solid at the back this year and capable of getting tight and seeing a game out when needs be.

I do think you’ve fallen in to the same trap as us last season in thinking that Kingsley James is a defensive midfielder when he absolutely isn’t.

Aspin has done a great job on his limited budget but the forward line he has put together this season is atrocious for National League level.

Not sure hitting the post 3 times and having 2 goals disallowed really is offering nothing going forward. I actually thought a draw was a fair result and on another night it could easily have been 3-3. The only thing both sides failed to do was put the ball in the net, other than that it was probably the best 0-0 game I have ever seen.

Can't comment on the offside in the first half but the one in the last minute looked the correct decision

Back from Tranmere away at Gateshead. Great turnout for a Tuesday night a long way from home.

Neither side settled quickly at all, and the first half was pretty dire. Gateshead's fabled passing game was totally absent, and Tranmere didn't live up to their hype at all. In fact, all four first half goals came out of nothing really. Strange half.

Second half, Tranmere started moving and controlling the play a bit more, without ever really creating much. The first few glimpses of a squad beginning to gel showed themselves, but they were only glimpses. Gateshead turned the tempo up towards the end, and showed they're a better side than the first 70 minutes suggested. If they play like that from the start, they'll win plenty.

Overall, an odd game, but I'll welcome that sort of odd game with open arms. 4-1 flattered, but the win was deserved.

We were lucky to come away having not conceded, very lucky, as SF1993 mentioned above. We really, really need a striker as well. Liked the look of Browne, good find from Smith. Decent game for the neutral.

Ah well, 49 points to go.

Burrow, 22; Hattersley, 23; Peniket, 22; Tuton, 23.

What's on their side is their age, really. Far from spent forces, those four. Patience and we could have one of the league's next hot young talents on the way.

Bishop?
I believe Peniket is injured. A huge lack of athleticism, pace and mobility between Burrow, Bishop and Hattersley. Admitedly I don't know a lot about Tuton.

Just got home from Gateshead. Odd game, four goal scorers, all being defenders (just as well we weren't relying on the strikers) but after the first half hour, it looked a nailed on 0-0. Some well worked goals among the four, and a 35 yard screamer from Matt Hill. Yes 4-1 did flatter us, but Gateshead didn't really help themselves with some questionable defending for the goals. Going forward, they woke up in the last 20 minutes, but by then it was too late. Good support from us tonight - 453 on an 8 hour round trip on a tuesday. And for the Rovers fans on here, Audrey will have a sore head in the morning, after being thrown into the windscreen on the way home when someone pulled out in front of the coach. She's ok though, fortunately!

Hit the post twice, one fantastically cleared off the line and two goals (correctly) disallowed. Not bad for a team with nothing up front.

To be honest, I think we let Aldershot have too much of the game last night. Their approach play at times was excellent, especially their number 15, but my God their finishing was woeful. One shot on target, which was as soft as shite and the rest weren't even within a yard of the goal.

Nothing to be too concerned about yet, I refuse to prejudge based on two games, but so far we're unbeaten and have had plenty of chances. Once we start making the best of them then I'll think the push for the playoffs won't be too far off.

I know it's very early but interesting to see all the favourites at the top of the table already. Nice to see friendly banter and no billy big bollocks from my fellow Tranmere fans. Can't wait for Braintree on Saturday now. It's going to be a fun season.

Some fans are calling for him to be shipped out. But I think he is too good a player at this level when he gets his head sorted out. At the moment without him and with Johnston injured we look fucked.
