It's been a fucking circus tonight. I'm quite interested in what you guys think? People who aren't idiotic Derby fans (if you can be bothered to watch/listen)

Here's the unconvincing interview with local tv
https://www.facebook.com/bbc.emt/videos/1089011191115970/

Here's the interview with local radio, where he dismisses it
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02ptft5

Later on in the evening McClaren was taking part in a Q&A with fans, where he confirmed he turned Newcastle down in January and that's where the shitstorm has taken off, as he and Derby have been insisting for months that they've had no contact from Newcastle.

He clearly wants the job, which makes him a mug. I would have thought he would have more sense, but I'm guessing he's just waiting to see what happens at Derby between now and the end of the season before committing to anything.

However, the most ridiculous thing he said in that interview was "John Carver is doing a good job."

Yeah, that made me laugh!

I still find it very hard to believe that Mike Ashley is prepared to pay the £2m compensation.

McClaren's reputation is as an excellent coach. As a manager, I think he is good/solid but no better than a lower half Premier League manager. He's not got the personality or aura to succeed as Newcastle manager though. The job will squash and swarm all over him. He'll be gone within 18 months.

He's been criticising the Derby fans for "not sticking together" while we've been under the poor run. He's in for a shock at Newcastle, if he thinks our lot have been bad

Piss poor interview that. Does no one at Derby any favours and hardly boosts confidence ahead of the play-off.

To be fair, Newcastle fans have been given shit for years. No other club that has that kind of dedicated fan base has been treated that badly.

But equally, given the situation as it is, I can't see why any manager would want that job...

Just out of interest, why do you follow Newcastle aswell as Brentford?

Grew up in Northfields, so had a season ticket for Brentford for 13+ years, but had family connections to Newcastle (+same birthday as Alan Shearer, which means nothing now, but as a 7 year old was a good reason to support Newcastle)

It's not been a good combination over the years...

I can't say I'd be happy watching that if I was a Derby fan.

Why would you want the Newcastle job anyway?

Newcastle is a hiding to nothing under Ashley. Unless he knows something the wider world doesn't regarding the ownership there.

The rumours about McClaren going there have been knocking around for ages, so it makes you think there must be something in it and that interview only backs that up. But there is no logic in that. At Derby McClaren has a progressive club that seems very likely to be promoted to the Prem sooner or later. If he was to stay at Derby, get them promoted, and make a decent fist of things with Derby then his reputation and stock would be much higher than if he was to jump to Newcastle now and finished circa 14th for 3 seasons in a row.

Not to mention his self worth and sense of achievement.

Can't believe that he has said he turned them down in January even after saying countless times no contact had been made. Why couldn't they be clear about things, like Brentford have done?

Really frustrated now, have to see what the end season brings but it doesn't look good.

Can't even be arsed to listen to it I'm that bored of all the talk. Hope it get's sorted after our season is finished one way or another. I don't think it would be a great move for him but after being on the scrap heap 2 years ago to where he is now, he might see it as an opportunity too good to turn down, returning to the PL at a big club.
Bar this last couple of months we've had a really good 18 months under this management set up so I'd obviously be disappointed if/when he does go. It's not just Steve Mac though, Simmo and Eric Steele have been tremendous too.

This on top of the form we've had recently doesn't fill me with much confidence for the remaining games, nevermind!

I hope he goes just so it's you lot and not QPR/Fulham who get Warburton.

I'd love for us to give Warburton a go, if McClaren does leave. Would be interesting how he handled the extra pressure/expectation.

Much rather him over Dyche. Also talk of Clement at Real Madrid.

His response to "can you not just rule yourself out?" was pitiful. Way to fuck harmony whilst in the midst of a promotion battle.

In all seriousness, if he did say that about Derby's fans, he's going to be in for one hell of a shock if he arrived at St James Park.

He'd be sensible to stay.

Premier League Champions 15/16
In years gone by it would have been a sure bet that he'd go to Geordieland. They had good players and looked a midtable side that could push further on in a good season and a little more investment. Trouble is since the 5th place finish they've continually sold players, got steadily worse and don't ever look like spending money. All the gems have gone, the squad looks like a championship outfit and the first 11 has only a couple of players that stand above championship level. The horrendous run of form isn't all down to Carver. Look at the players he has. For anyone looking to take over that side, you'd need to make the most of a relatively poor bunch, get next to nothing to bring in new faces, and in all likelihood see the best of what you have got sold or look to leave. Under new ownership this wouldn't be an issue, but who would want to work under Ashley? If Derby get promotion I don't think it'd be wise to jump ship. And if he stays and it goes horribly wrong at Derby he'll probably still have the chance to work under Ashley at Rangers!

Whilst he won't take Newcastle anywhere, it's surely one of the safest jobs about. If Mike Ashley likes you then you've got a job seemingly for as long as you want one.

Meanwhile if Derby have a poor start next season they could well sack him, so from a job security point of view I can see whilst he'd do it even if it means years of lower mid-table nothingness

The man was a banker, I doubt the pressure at Derby would be too much for him. No disrespect meant.

I don't buy that Newcastle fans have had it hard or deserve more. They are one of the few teams that came close to winning the Prem for a start. Having lots of fans doesn't entitle you to success. They are a one club city, a massive city. Yet they don't and have never produced enough of their own players over the last 20 years for a club with there catchment area, stats surrounding that are flattered by the fee they got for Carroll off the deluded red Scotsman.

It wasn't long ago that they were keen to talk about how great there scouting system was at finding players from abroad. I know a lot of pure breed Geordies and they vehemently dispute the deluded tag they get labelled with and say that this has been attached to them by the media. However they consider themselves on the level of a club like Spurs, they ain't anywhere near that for me.

Spurs owners have pumped in lots of money every year to build the club to where it has got to in the last few years, while our owner pulls out as much money as he can each season, stretching back for the last 8 years. That's the difference. Can't do anything with poor management and no funds.

Spot on cock, they love a number 9, not like we all don't, I remember the greatest fans in the world having 13k in 91 under Ardiles, but they've had if harder than most, not like City or Leeds or Wolves or Norwich or Wednesday who've suffered 3rd tier football.

And when Shepherd and Hall were chucking it in that was different? Signing Ferdinand for a record fee, spending 15m on Shearer that was fine? Fuck off.

This our owner bòllocks, you have one club not two you weird sod.

I wouldn't say the club was being amazingly well run then either, but back then we were comparatively very successful, challenging for the odd title / cup, and consistently qualifying for the Champions League, both things that Tottenham aren't even doing now.

So my point was that money talks, especially at Premier League level, and that's why Newcastle are "under performing" in a lot of people's eyes.

As for having ties to 2 clubs, what the f*ck does it matter to you?
