I really can't understand fans of other clubs getting their knickers in a twist over this. Don't worry lads you don't have to contribute unless you really want.

They need replacing as our former owners ran us into the ground. I've got no issues with this at all to be fair. We are run by a charity after all.

Least one thing we have in common with previous owners!

It’s a nice idea i’m sure the fans will happily help.

It's not massively insightful to suggest investing in resources and infrastructure ahead of spunking loads of cash on wages and new signings is a better way to achieve long term sustainability as a football club. Trying to guilt trip your fans, who don't forget already put their money into the club for tickets & merchandise, into covering the cost of things pitch covers because you're doing well in the league is just embarrassing.
You may find it embarrassing, but we, the people who are being asked to stump up the money, don't. If it's a straight battle between the two, I would rather the club sign players like Tshimanga who are assets who will go for good money than focus on frost covers. It's good to know you're finding it embarrassing on our behalves, though. Good to know you have our back <3

I don't, I hope you fuck up your promotion splurge and go bust. Have absolutely no time for clubs who take enormous financial risks on the basis they can go rattling a donation tin at their supporters again if it doesn't all go to plan.

You're just assuming we're taking financial risks with no evidence.

I don't think frost covers are gonna get us out of this league though. Can't see the problem myself. If you can afford it, contribute, if you can't then don't. Last season the club asked the fans for £10k for some matchday tech and they'd raised fifteen grand after a week. Granted if we were towards the bottom of the league I suspect i'd feel different, but I don't mind the club making the most of the feel good factor.

I don't really see the issue either, supporters have the choice of whether to contribute or not. When you're in this league, players are a much bigger priority than frost covers.

He had the same response when we dared to suggest Tshimanga won't be sold for anything less £2M.
To try and turn this into an issue shows how jealous and resentful other teams are of Chesterfield's success on and off the pitch.

You've quite literally been top of the league for about a week. And it's November. And you're in the Conference.

This thread is almost as incredible as the quite tweets on twitter. I hope we go and sign someone this well now, will be half of Nottingham self combusting with rage.

We aren't skint, we don't need the money and last I heard our financial position was actually pretty solid given we're getting nearly 6k at home when we budgeted for 3.5-4k, have been on an unexpected cup run, are on the TV two more times next month etc.

When the Trust took over their was a big clamour from fans who had stayed away/NAPM etc saying how can we get involved/how can we support you etc outside of buying STs/going to games (which not everyone can do).

One of the things they said would help would be fan led fundraising schemes. We did one last year for some GPS training kit, we've done one for a statue of Ernie Moss and now we're doing on for some frost covers. If folk want to donate a few quid, let them, if they don't then so be it. Don't really think it makes much difference - it's just another opportunity for the fans to show support to the new owners and for them to enjoy the fruits of a positive bond with the fans but also the wider community.

The Trust are doing great things in the town outside of the football and their relationship is better than anyone ever imagined it could be. Whilst things are rosy they should ride the crest of the wave.

I heard next years fundraiser is for a private jet to fly to away games in style. Where can i send my tenner for that?!

Hahaha fucking hell a Grimsby fan living in Sheffield, how did you end up with the shitty end of both sticks?

That being said, if you haven't already got frost covers you are certainly tinpot.
We do. But they are 15 years old. For reference the fans fundraised and bought those too.

Thankfully it was when twitter was quite small. Can't remember the outcry on Bebo being as bad

Some expressed their annoyance through their song choices on MySpace.

I agree, it’s just funny cos it’s Chesterfield.

We have something that helps with stuff like this - basically a weekly lottery thing. It’s full at 2,500 people who pay £2 a week, half of that goes into prize draws, the other half into a pot that pays for infrastructure around the club and our community work. It was set up when we looked like going bust in the 80s I think and has just kept going to raise funds, such a simple idea that I’ve not really seen done by any other clubs.

I’ve got no particular horse in this race, but… Sheffield is an objectively good place to live I reckon? Great city.

We should probably do this tbf. We have Spire Lotto which has over 5000 weekly players but we give away MOTs at the local garage or a meal for two in some hell hole pub instead.

It's the bit where your club puts out tweets begging supporters for donations to buy stadium equipment, when reducing your wage bill by ~£300 p/w would be enough to foot the bill without going cap in hand to fans. Hardly suggests sustainable financial management.

Hardly begging. If it means a better playing budget, I'll gladly donate a few quid for some equipment. We're fan owned... really don't see your issue.

I don’t understand people getting annoyed at you for it but you’ve got to admit it’s very fucking funny.

‘Furlough Gate’ + 250k on a striker = looking like idiots when you beg for money to pay for a bit of tarpaulin
