The insurance policy sounds smart to be honest. I remember reading last year Wimbledon (Tennis not AFC) had "Pandemic insurance" written in for years and therefore were basically paid out for not be able to stage the tournament in 2020.

No wonder that James Rowe looks such a smug little fucker all the time.

It'll be more luck than being smart. Plenty of companies will have business interruption cover, not many insurers would have intended to cover a global pandemic so it's probably just shitty wording on the insurer's behalf that's allowed us to successfully claim.

so what in essence the Chesterfield financial officer has said is that they have taken all the Government funds and tax breaks, and Furlough to the maximum. but also are claiming on insurance so they have in fact benefitted substantially from Covid.

Yup, thats cleared it up, but if anything only confirmed the whole Furloughgate last year is even worse than before as you had insurance anyway....

Yeah long time reader of the board but just tend to read and not post.

But when Chesterfield claimed full covid relief, when they had insurance and didnt need it, meaning my taxes paid for them to sign players.

The whole government payment to nl was a shitshow, but if a club had insurance and didn't need the bail out to survive when they submitted their accounts it should of been noted and no payments made.

Just frustrating that when the uk economy is collapsing government money is being used to pay for Chesterfield to sign players for 150k....

Crazy

It seems silly to me you are getting upset over something you have no clue about. I bet you read the Daily Mail.

Every fan of other clubs say that what Chesterfield did was wrong.

Chesterfield fans claim they did nothing wrong.

The cycle just repeats itself.

I do think Chesterfield fans could take being called stuff like 'Furlough FC' a little better mind. They seem to defend themselves very passionately every time against it.

I want to keep it light because not one person wants another heated furlough debate least of all me; but I saw some figures released I found interesting that 58 of 72 EFL clubs (I might not have the figures exactly right from memory but it's around there) used the furlough scheme on players to some degree or other. I didn't see the non league figures but you have to imagine the ratio is even higher than that. I think the whole thing just stems from the fact our board released a statement about it 'HEY WE'RE FURLOUGHING A COUPLE PLAYERS JUST WANTED YALL TO KNOW' for some reason. Probably down to them being new into the whole ownership thing and being a bit naive. That was around the same time Ashley Carson 'leaked' to the press about us 'stealing vaccines' though so maybe they were just trying to get ahead of him on it as well

I hope we don't sing what we sang on Saturday at your place..it'll be akin to inciting a riot.

"We had no money so we furloughed all of our staff, Maguire at the back, and Rowe in attack..."

Insurance company’s won’t care , they love a crisis. Premiums up, tons of new customers. For somthing they won’t have to ever pay out on for another 50 years

Just been having a look on Stockport’s forum. Crikey, Rusk isn’t too popular is he? I see some wag has even dubbed him ‘Charlie FARLEY’ (very good).

He and Burchnall seemed to be on very similar trajectories, both young, from ‘coaching backgrounds’, replacing popular-ish established managers, and eventually getting decent results after sticky starts, albeit both missing out in the playoffs.

However whereas Burchnall now has pretty much total support among our fanbase (bar the odd weird Ardley loyalist), Stocky fans seem very unconvinced about SR. Is that fair?

I think a big problem that Rusk has is that Gannon was well liked amongst their fan base, so Rusk has always been up against it from the start

Apparently Ardley was among ours too, though (especially late middle aged blokes, bizarrely). I didn’t realise just how much until Burchnall lost the FA Trophy semi final to Hornchurch 48 hours after his arrival!

Yeah, I don’t think you can compare Gannon at Stockport with Ardley at Notts really. Everyone liked the latter, but there was also a general feeling that he’d underachieved. Gannon is a complete club legend.

Rusk always comes across as a bit dour and boring as well, and his team looks a bit that way too. Their backgrounds are similar (although IB has been a manager/head coach for a lot longer), but Burchnall comes across as a much more engaging character and our style of football is a lot more attacking, both of which will make someone more popular.

As Jacob and OneDecentLester correctly allude to he was always going to be up against it following Gannon. Don't forget JG wasn't sacked because we were shite, we were 4th and looking decent. He just didn't fit into the long term vision with D.O.F's etc. Gannon is an old school manager who wants to coach, manage everything and everybody, wash the bibs etc. His record here was outstanding as a player and manager and in some really difficult times.

Rusk has been up against it from day one. He really did need to smash it out the park to get the fans on board and he hasn't. Not in terms of results, style, personality (he's a nice fella but a bit flat).

I personally think he'll be gone by Christmas.

I don't know if it was taken out of context because I wasn't there and only saw the reports from people that were, but we had a fans forum last week ( this is before the Dagenham game) where our owner pretty much admitted to the whole floor that he wasn't a fan of the style of play either and can see why fans are frustrated with it.

And fans back in now of course. Makes all the difference as we know. Edgeley Park is not a place that keeps its feelings to itself.

Two groups are in discussions to buy Yeovil Town from its current owner Scott Priestnall, according to the Glovers’ Trust.

In a statement, the Trust says it has been speaking with a consortium is “in the latter part of negotiations” around a takeover with a second group is also “at an advanced stage.”

The Trust added that it believes Priestnall “is willing to sell the football club” and that it had spoken with a number of potential investors including “one of the most high-profile names in English football“, businessmen and supporters about a takeover.

It’ll be Harry Redknapp.
