In reply to the Notts fan, no sarcasm from moi, we have the best squad in the league. We are top of the league and we've had between 7-10 players out injured for pretty much every match this season. Certainly not saying we'll win the league, it's far too early for that, but I don't see any other squad in this league who could cope with the losses we've had.

To reiterate; we've played with Stefan Payne up top for a number of matches and are still top of the league.

Loach
King Williams Grimes Croll Miller
Oyeleke Khan Kellerman
Tshimanga Rowe

vs

Minter
Carline Kerr Gunning Maguire Whittle
Weston Clarke McCourt
Asante Denton

The strength in depth is there for all to see once players return from injury. Only problem is that there are several other clubs that are also capable of winning the league. I agree completely though that we have the best squad.

Our next few matches are tough:

Solihull (A)
Alty (H)
Maidenhead (A)
Grimsby (A)
County (H)
Halifax (H)

If we can get 4 wins out of that I'd say that'd be a cracking return that'll keep us on track.

In terrible form and it's evident that our attacking options are threadbare with injuries to the majority of our big earners, but somehow we're still only three points off the top. Hurst's teams always did this before, so I'm not worried. We'll be on an 8/9/10 match unbeaten streak again before not too long.

You’ll beat Solihull. They were pretty limited going forward and check out the defending for our goals. I think you broke their defence by signing Williams:

I suspect Solihull are a very tough nut to crack at home. Their defence is slow and lumbering so got shown up a bit on our big pitch, but I remember their ground being a really small, tight affair which probably plays into their hands.

It’s weird that Hudlin can’t seem to get a start for them after being linked with a big move all summer. He’s an amazing spectacle.

No idea if there will be a release clause but i wouldn't be entertaining anything below £2m.

He's on a good contract, BW will be owed a sell-on and what he means to our promotion challenge means anything less just ain't worth considering.

He is a good striker at national league level, but in all seriousness i think he would go for £500k-£750k and i think Chesterfield would take it. If a Sheffield Wednesday or Rotherham come in for him he'd be gone in flash, let alone a lower level championship team. you can't force a player to stay and expect them to play to 100%, look at Harry Kane.

And speaking as a Notts fan i hope he does haha.

its a similar situation to Notts with Ruben Rodriguez, lots of our fans would say he's worth £1m+ but in reality the chances are he'l go in January for 600k as simply teams don't play that much for national league players.

If any team can remain top with that **** in the team -- Then they deserve to go up. He's worse than useless.

Well I wouldn't like to call him any nasty names but from what I gather, a lot of our fans think he's doing ok. This is undoubtedly due the fact we're top of the league rather than judging him on his individual performances and you often see this, where you'll be playing well yet have an underperforming player in the team and they get defended based almost solely on the team's results.

His touch is dodgy and he doesn't threaten the opposition goal. He has 1 goal, a penalty against Curzon Ashton the league below. But, I do try to keep in mind that when everyone is fit, he's our 5th choice striker, so try not to be too harsh. It's hard.

I don't think anyone can say he hides. He just doesn't seem to get into scoring positions much and when he does it's either a miss, saved or offside. Had results gone poorly there would be some more focus on his contribution but afaiac he may as well carry on with what he is doing. After all, the result is the main thing.

Our last eight are Southend, Torquay, Kings Lynn, Weymouth, Dover, Aldershot, Dover, Alty and Maidenhead.

If we can maintain the 4 point gap to Chesterfield going into that the title is ours IMO.
Two Brothers, you can never tell how those might pan out. Alty might be challenging. some nice goal difference boosters there though.

We've Chesterfield away (all ticket KO 5 am), Stockport and Torquay at home, and also, Weymouth, KL, M'head Barnet and Eastleigh.

Im with Cashis that he’s getting off lightly because of our other players. Payne is average at best, he runs a lot, he battles for the ball but his basic football skills (passing / control / shooting) are terrible.

Of course, but when I look at a team and notice a player who is far behind the others in terms of quality I struggle to keep my gob shut. It was the same when Armand Gnanduillet played for us under Paul Cook (ironically he's gone on to have a good career), his footballing intelligence was so far behind our other players at the time that it annoyed me and I see Payne in a similar vein but worse, because he's 30 so doesn't have any potential to get better and at least Armand bagged a few. We win in spite of him, not because of him. But I fully agree that he doesn't hide and he grafts, for sure, but that's the minimum I expect from somebody being paid to play professional football.

Most definitely.

His position would seem to be the obvious one when it comes to improving the side. I'm not entirely sure what it is (if anything) he's bringing to the team now apart from nuisance value. I guess results lead to a reluctance to rock the boat. Pretty sure JR doesn't suffer from that tho...

Chesterfield fans whilst Payne is very limited at least if the going gets tough you know that he will be very happy to dig in and fight for your team.

No chance Chesterfield are getting £2m for a 5th tier striker. Vardy went for less than a mill and that'll be used as a yard stick forever more, I reckon. It'll come down to whether or not their board are willing to turn down £1M should someone come in with that amount. A board that has any aspirations of getting anywhere near breaking even/turning a profit at this level would accept it.

It'll come down to what is worth more to the club, promotion back to the FL and the finances that come with it, or selling Tshimanga. I honestly can't see us accepting a bid of less than £1M.

Agree. Some crazy talk going on from those Chesterfield fans.

Plus Vardy was technically a League Two player by that point.

I think Jacob was probably bang on when he said there's probably an agreed release clause that's lower than a lot of us hope. That said though it would have to be a reasonable size club to turn his head and I don't know how many teams could afford the fee, most FL clubs are just as broke as us lot. It'll end up being a Peterborough or a MK Dons when it happens, then move a year later for £10m

Do HMRC have a sell-on clause?

From his point of view, Tshimanga should really have a got a league club during the summer. I think Chesterfield would be mental to sell him in January, as would we with Rodrigues or Roberts. We’d never get the money we think they’re worth, wouldn’t have adequate time to sign replacements, and it would likely scupper any promotion chances.

Promise them a move in the summer if club comes in they want to go to.

Tshimanga will go to Posh in January for an ‘undisclosed fee’, there has never been a more certain transfer in the history of football. They signed Harry Taylor from Barnet for a fair old amount so Chesterfield will at least get a decent amount of cash. The only question will be whether or not they manage to reinvest it successfully.
