Bollocks. 6th playoff campaign - lost them all. We didn't look very good...
My expectations weren`t high, worth a punt (if we haven`t bankrupted the new campaign), but time to rebuild and go again. Gateshead just about deserved it on the 90 mins, but as ever we didnt take the chances we had. Shane Byrne`s worldie spectacular, though. Feels more like a summer tournament loss rather than the bitter disappointment after a full season`s effort. Be fascinating to see what kind of squad Wilkin can put together.

out of interest why?

I’m the opposite - the positives of staying down would be to play a lot more local teams especially Boreham Wood, Wealdstone & hopefully Stevenage. League 2 looks a bit meh

On Boreham Wood - been there before, high admission to get in and they'd hardly bring anyone to ours. Barnet would likely see bellends creep out of the woodwork from both sides for any potential matches.

I think Chester fans who are realists knew we'd get beat. The awful refereeing decision just masked poor team selection. Burton for instance has been crap for 2 seasons now.
Jonno has confirmed that the ref has since apologised and admitted he got it wrong. Fair play I suppose but FFS!

Good job Barnet. Any side that can afford to not start a player like Don E has got to be a decent one. Only my opinion of course :shifty:
We do tend to play better when he’s on but he hardly ever scores or creates an assist. He did on Saturday though. If we do end up winning the play-offs, perhaps he’ll cut a new single to celebrate it. His musical output is quite good, although I’d say it’s at the poppier end of Grime.

Rebuild? I fear it will 10 out of the same starting 11, we'll just lose the 4 or 5 bench-warmers we do every year, and replace them with another half a dozen who are not good enough to start and won't be trusted as subs. That's been the pattern for 3 years. I don't want to grumble too much, 3 seasons in a row finishing 3rd (sort of this year), and think we'll end up in the playoffs again... but this squad is never taking us up. We need a proper second striker, a goalkeeper capable of coming off the line and dealing with a high ball, a central defender (if Audel isn't returning) and more quality beyond the first 11 to promote both competition and to have players who might change a game. We feel 90% there year after year - but Kevin doesn't seem to be able to address the missing 10% - especially in terms of strikers.

Don't feel much like renewing my season ticket... but I guess that will pass...

PS - maybe we could make better use of the loan system... as several of the Gateshead squad were loaned in league players, perhaps we could learn a lesson here?

We were beaten by the better side. Only started playing after the team they should have started with got on the pitch.

Don`t disagree with much of this. Definitely need to replace Audel (assume he is back in France), and to strengthen the squad with guys who will challenge for a starting place. I`m OK with Danny Lewis, by and large, but that second striker? No coincidence that the Trophy season had Aaron Williams alongside Lee. Loans make sense - we had that decent MK dons CH a year or two back, could probably work harder on more of those options. Be good just to be back watching decent football again. I was relaxed about this push to the NL - we would not have been ready, and it would have been a struggle. The club are overachieving, and the Board seem to know what they are doing. Will take more time to build the infrastructure, may become an issue for some of the present group if they want to move up the pyramid.

Didn't realise Audel was still around, thought he had headed back to France a couple of years ago.

So Boston v Gateshead, Weymouth v Dorking next weekend.
Gateshead already done us 3-0 twice this season but totally meaningless
Would rather have faced Brackley to be fair, by all accounts they didn't look great yesterday and would've been a touch lucky to progress

Looking forward to Saturday now, gonna be weird watching such a big Notts home game on the telly.

We’re obviously gonna have to win 6-0 though to match last night’s Forest related hilarity. :D x 20.

What did he admit he got wrong ~~ the pen, the sending off or both?

Not confident tomorrow, said in earlier post on forum we would of won league easily because kings Lynn had gone, but if went to play offs would lose to Alty and still believe this,Alty are a good team and Durrell will score winner.
This season is a nightmare,of the 3 clubs I detest Liverpool and Leeds won league and Luton avoided relegation on last game what could go wrong?

I have no idea how our game with Barnet will go tomorrow. They’ve had a game already, is that an advantage? No idea. At least we’ve been able to have a look at them. Would love an early goal to settle any nerves. Weather looks a bit dodgy.

I’d guess Ardley will line up as we ended the season, but with Slocombe in for McDonnell in goal. So him, Richard Brindley at RB, Lacey and Rawlinson in the middle, Bagan at LB, Cal Roberts LM, Doyle and Mitch Rose in the middle, and Enzio RM. Then Kyle Wootton and Kristian Dennis up top.

Means we have a pretty strong bench, the 5 subs thing should be a bit of an advantage for us.

Prediction: 3-1 Notts. Attendance: zero (under normal circumstances would probably have been 10/11k :( )

That’s a ridiculous squad which would have won the league had it continued. Fully expect a Notts win tomorrow with most of your success coming from the wingers.

However the playoffs are a lottery and who knows what can happen... I’ll allow myself a little bit of hope before Boldewijn batters one home on 15 mins

Well, here we go. I never gave up hope of this happening and here we are. We're good enough to win but it's a lottery after four months and Barnet having played a game to get them in the groove.
Turned down the chance of watching this in the pub with friends to watch it with my old man who's coming up for 80 and had cancer last year, so it's not fair to ask him to come to the pub at the moment. Also got my brother in law coming round which is great but.... the families are coming and I thought they'd be in the back garden in the sun and it's forecast thunder storms which means everyone's going to be in the front room with the tele talking over the football if I'm not careful.

Its a one off, anything could happen but I expect it will be very close. I expect you to improve from recent meetings, if you dont we might tear you to bits. May the best team win.

I think we’ve got the better squad, but that advantage is probably levelled up by Barnet having got through and won a game. All eyes will be on the other semi to see how that pans out. I quite fancy Boreholes for that one.

Laughing a lot at the Notts fans who think no crowd will be a stumbling block. Our record in front of a big crowd at Meadow Lane is generally shit, so I’ve got no worries on that score.

I reckon he’ll start O’Brien rather than one of the wingers, and probably Thomas rather than Dennis as the second striker. Wouldn’t be a massive surprise if he went with Kelly-Evans over Bagan at left back either.
