In a tradition I have just made up, Lincoln and Forest Green will be playing for the true honour of Best Team That Got Promoted Last Season. It is the National League Champions vs the National League Playoff Champions. Two titans of Non-League football find themselves with different fortunes this season. Lincoln are third, while Mark Cooper's genius has seen FGR bottom of the table. Last time out FGR managed to use arcane powers to prevent their game against Exeter from being completed. Lincoln meanwhile saw out a 3-0 victory over Stevenage.

Last time these two met the tie was settled 1-0 via a Harry Anderson goal.

Who will come away with the Vanarama National League Super Cup this year? Something I have just made up? Will it be the BULLISH FGR or the calm and collected Danny Cowley? Will flu ravage the Lincoln squad further? All we will be decided, this weekend.

Well at least Lincolnshire is known for its expertise in drainage so game should finish.
From what i can tell you're set up to exploit all the things we're worst at so not at all hopeful of even a point.

As long as KMB doesn't play. Always seems to score against us.

Still love watching the video of him dabbing last year after he'd scored to put them up 2-0, only for us to win 3-2.

After the Carlisle debacle when FGR did not have one shot on target and could have been down 0-3 at half time, I would have put this game as a sure fire home win.
But then FGR had a game at Exeter when they played as well as any team in league until match abandoned.
Therefore with Lincoln players suffering from flu [according to Forza Imp] and FGR on the up there is an opportunity for an away win.
However a realistic result would probably be a draw, which is what I've put down in Oakey's prediction competition.

Moonball v passing super side, only one winner surely?
Clicked into gear in the last month.
Apparently only 8 of the squad didn't have flu yesterday.
Expecting another bumper crowd, 9000+ again

On the up? Have you been watching a different team and looking at a different league table? Jesus wept.

Passing super side? They're super at passing sideways and backwards and, on occasions, to the edge of the opposition penalty area. Then they give it away.

Not been keeping tabs, have the home crowds held up for Lincoln after the excitement of last season? Would have thought returners/newbies would be pleased enough with your excellent return to the league.

Yep. I'm hearing John Beck is returning as director of football. Phil Kyme has been instructed to stop cutting the grass in the corners and turn off the hot water to the visitors changing rooms.
Be sure we will be credited as being a good side if we happen to lose again this season! And the opposition manager will tell us how exceptionally well they played to beat us.

*He WILL play, he WILL score in the last minute with a BELTING winner in front of our HOARDES of away fans to finally DESTROY the HOOFBALL-MERCHANTS Cowleyz and when he does I will RUN ON THE PITCH and BREAK DANCE in front of the Co Op stand.

Ps this will mean I miss Lee Collins lifting the National League Super Cup on the pitch afterwards but it will be WELL worth it.

*Hopefully.

They have, 9000 home fans in on Boxing Day and we have the highest average in the division.

Just had a look on the FGR forum, a lot seem to be quickly losing/lost patience with Cooper?

We're bottom of the league. What do you expect? Vince is backing him in January though, so looks like he'll get more time. Needs his signings to hit the ground running I reckon. Surprisingly after our shite performance v Carlisle where we looked like we'd downed tools, Exeter was a fair bit better which suggests that there is still fight in us.

Anyway much rather an exciting relegation scrap then boring midtable though. Most years I've supported FGR it's either been desperate relegaion scraps or a promotion challenge. The Hockaday 10th place seasons got boring as fuck around March/April time. Can see this going down to the wire this year, which should mean it wont be boring this season.

All those BELTS who said we'd get embarassingly low crowds in this league if we weren't near the top are being proved SPECTACULARLY wrong, we're bottom and still no where near the worst supported team in the division.

For us to be averaging 2700 when we're bottom of the league is more impressive then Lincoln's crowds relatively speaking imo.

We also took 250-odd 105 miles down the road to Exeter in shite weather the other day as well, despite being bottom, having played shite 3 days before and with the liklihood it would get called off.

Yep, been pleased that the home average is staying at 2,000 plus which given the football on show is really promising and such a step up from just a few years back.

Did that actually happen? I mean, it didn't take a genius to work out they'd be lesser supported sides than FGR this season.

On Cooper, I didn't expect everyone to be jumping up and down but usually you'd see a few, 'well, he got us up, he's in credit' type posts but there didn't seem to be any when I checked, albeit briefly. Seemed to be a split between how you play but Cooper just being a prick and dismissive of anyone who dares to question him.

Pretty sure he dabbed when he scored against us in the play off final too which meant they were only losing by 1.

Cracking player though can't deny that.

Ah John Beck! Don't forget to add the deflated footballs, too much sugar in the opposition's tea and cold showers for his players to the list of his unorthodox ways.

What a man

Then Nathan Arnold's goal, can't say I didn't enjoy that myself.

Cracking player?? Meh doesn't have the work ethic to be a cracking player. Scores the off goal but would rather replace him tbf. Don't think Cooper can manage him.

Tbf looking at his past career seems not many people can manage him. So no surprise if Cooper can't.

Far too many off days. If he's on it he can be great, but too many times he can't be arsed. At least he hasn't stolen off team mates whilst here though.....

Despite it's appearance a "National League spokesman" has denied all rumours relating to it actually being a recycled Setanta Shield.

According to Wikipedia we have won something called the Conference Championship Shield, in 1988.

Not sure what that was. Bring back the Setanta Shield.
