Why? Fans excited about a club legend coming back sounds perfectly normal to me.
Just the way that Gannon's name is mentioned every time a vacancy seems to pop up.

Good first spell, bad second spell and you've gone back to him again?

No he didn't, Chris Turner nearly sent him out on loan to Hednesford until Gannon gave him his chance
It was Tamworth - we signed him from Hednesford, but we're all wrong about are own club as is Ashley Williams himself about the situation. Whereas an complete outsider like The_Boss is obviously the expert on the subject.

It was a mixed second spell though he definitely made mistakes. The board cut his already reduced budget (compared to Hamann) three times during the course of the season in an effort to force him out. It is very much unfinished business but this will be his last spell with us, if it doesn't work out this time that will be that.

It's not like we haven't tried other options, we have had two former Conference North winning manager who have absolute complete failures.

So as you can see he was an ever present under Gannon. The 2005/2006 season was when Gannon arrived half way through hence the 38 appearances because in the first half of the season under Turner he was in and out of the side, particularly out of it towards the end of his spell.

Serious question that doesn't involve Ashley Williams....

Does anybody know the financial situation at Northwich this season? They've obviously got something about them and that rarely comes at any level without significant (for the level) resources.

That doesn't diminish the accomplishments this season of course, you still need to manage the resources successfully and get the best out of the expensive players when they are there, I'd just like to know if anyone knows the magnitude to which there is money in it?

By all accounts they have a very good budget but a couple of teams have better.

And what about the 49 games the season before??

My actual quote was "just before Gannon came Williams was struggling to get in the team" so I'm not sure what you are arguing

And I notice you just completely ignored the article where a number of quotes from Williams completely went against your argument. I'm quite happy to admit I'm wrong i.e I thought Dennis would struggle to reach double figures for Macc, maybe you should do the same.

Oh and just for future reference, I'm glad we chose to give Gannon the job, I'm hopeful he can be a success, I'm well aware he has his faults and it's a risky move but surely we can't get any worse.

Didn't Gannon used to take a fairly large cut of your transfer fees received as well?

Unbelievable first spell.

Second spell we all know didn't go to plan but his budget was nowhere near good enough, but there were signs of a good side there. And he had board members who didn't like him which is well known, apparently we were too skint to sign a centre half, not long after we could afford to pay him off, bring in a CEO, hire a Bosnian manager (then also pay him off not long after) and sign 4 players in 2 weeks so he was never backed. We've got good people in charge now and the main thing about Gannon is, he's a genuinely good manager.

I went to the 2009 (I think) play-off final as a neutral between Rochdale and Stockport to experience the New Wembley. Stockport won an entertaining game 3-2. Stockport essentially bankrupted themselves in the process (runs for cover), it would appear, and look at their positions today. Rochdale seem so much better run.

Gannon like Hill at Dale, Coleman at Stanley and me at Leeds is just made for the one club where it just seems to click.
My recollection of 05/06 (aside from my Leeds team tearing up the championship).
County rock bottom at Christmas having just been humiliated by MaccTown 6-0 (that included a missed penalty). Only two victories all season, the Macc defeat was the second 0-6 reverse, hardly any money, fans revolt and a manager feeling sorry for himself (Turner).
Gannon comes in and instantly turns things around with practically the same squad he inherited (bar a few shrewd signings on loan/from nonleague.) The form in the second half of the season was more of a playoff team than one fighting relegation 40 odd points won if memory serves and most seasons that points total would have seen County stay up easily. It was a very tough league two that season though so it went to the final day with about 6 clubs who could potentially go down.
They were bottom of the conference when he took over the second time and he got them to mid table, season after by all accounts without a budget he was in a relegation battle sacked and the club still went down. Id imagine they would have stayed up if he had stayed.

Regarding the budget. he developed and sold on alot of talent for alot of money I will be shocked if he crippled them perhaps a county fan can enlighten us as to what the cause was of County's demise?

Talking as a Bury fan, would I have Gannon at Bury? No but would many fans have wanted Stan the Man at their club aside from Bury fans or Dingles? Doubt it! Id have still had Stan back though.
It isn't as though County have anything to lose in this appointment as they can't sink any lower. I personally would love to see him succeed as its a travesty seeing a club like County in the conference let alone conference north whilst tinpot nobodies like Fleetwood and Crawley are strutting around the league. I also miss our mini rivalry. Good luck Jimbo

I agree with all this. Also wasn't the selling of the ground to the Sale Sharks guy a big mistake?

Yeah not owning the ground and bringing no money in crippled us. If we beat Gillingham in the fa cup at home we would have had Villa at home on TV in the next round, that could have been a game changer.
