F**k, that AFCW kit is horrible. I generally admire clubs who try to pick unique colours (Argyle are a good example even though I think their latest kit looks gash) but there's limits.

Re. the Carlisle kits, Virgin Trains is a really odd sponsor as well, is anyone honestly going to say, woo, I saw 5 seconds of Carlisle on the Football League show, better go out and buy a train ticket then?

I suppose the same could be said for Luton & easyjet. Is anyone going to say woo, I saw 5 seconds of Luton on the football league show, better go out and book a flight then?

I guess the same could be said for a lot of shirt sponsors at this level.

:) these are all great examples. To be fair, so many sponsor deals are complete sh**e, whether it's a Posh-style sugar daddy trying to get round the financial turnover rules, a local company involved in some totally unnecessary deal (Why the fk would anyone outside of Bury care that the Bury tram sponsored them), or just looks a bit lame (yes, we have ice cream on our shirts. Not literally, just the sponsor's logo).

Nope. But with a local company (like when you had Eddie Stobart) you can kind of understand it. It's a local thing (since few people beyond the local area care about lower league clubs)...they look like they give a s**t about the local community whilst still being able to write off the deal against tax.

Virgin Trains doesn't have those Cumbrian roots unless I've missed something (which is possible since I couldn't be arsed to google it)?

I think Carlisle might be the end'o'the line for Virgin.

Fact of the day. Maybe.

Each time I see our kit I really want to kill someone so maybe sponsor advertising does work.

You're all wrong. Shirt advertising really does work.

In fact I do all of my purchases thanks to the wonder of shirt sponsorship. Only problem being that the season ended in May, so the family hasn't eaten or drunk imported lager for weeks, the cat didn't go to a vet and his subsequent death was compounded by the complete lack of knowledge of a good insurance company. I'd borrow money off a pay day lender, to find a good solicitor and sue the Football League, but without the season and shirt sponsorship I haven't a bloody Scooby.

Don't think there's any roots, but we used Virgin quite frequently for away games last season. Considering our distance from most clubs in this league, it makes sense to be sponsored by a train company.

They own Carlisle station (as they do many of the stations on the West Coast main line) and they sponsor Preston too, people in these places do travel and may have a choice over whether to travel by train or car. They have sponsorship hoardings around the ground saying how quickly and cheaply you can get to London/Glasgow/Edinburgh from Carlisle so there is a a clear advantage for them in raising local awareness. Also season ticket holders get a 25% discount. As shirt sponsorships go, I'd say it's one of the ones where the benefit to the sponsors is clearest...not sure how many Plymouth fans look at their shirt an think 'I was just thinking, where can I hire a cherry picker from?'

Pretty happy with our shirt sponsors. Although the associated medical centre seems no closer. Our shirt will be released by the club next weekend, if it's anything like last season the quality will be excellent but with an eye watering price to match.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Virgin I think sponsor Carlisle because its a cheap way for them to advertise their main route.

The don't stop at a lot of stations on their main route so options were Glasgow, Carlisle, Lancaster, Preston, Wigan, Warrington, London

Glasgow clubs only worth with Centic/Rangers and be too costly, London clubs are too many and not representing that station, Wigan have usually JJB.....they went with Preston/Carlisle.

It wasn't the Tram service that sponsored us it was the council - Bury Metropolitan haha. Most sponsors are there for their own clubs fans. Virgin did a deal with Carlise fans for away matches didn't they?

Edit: just seen most of it has been covered above.

First picture that came out made it look like it was just plain black with amber trim, which would have been excellent, but this silly diamond pattern ruins it. At least it's not blue again.

Just about to post the same picture - I didn't even notice the "watermark" pattern on the shirts last night so it doesn't bother me.

I quite like them (but then I like the home shirt so I'm clearly out of step with my views on current fashion). My only lagging doubt is the regular disorientation I feel when I see that the ref and linos are not wearing black. I sometimes have to attend the odd Southern League match to restore my inner calm.

If not a retro black, I think that refs should at least consider returning to the practice of wearing blazers.

Of course, my first Google image search came up with this:

I think Exeter's new third kit will take some beating as the worst new kit this year.

I don't actually mind that, it's unique and I guess it's to do with the Fluminense link? I doubt it'll be used all too many times either.

Love our away kit. That Exeter shirt is probably one of the worst I've seen.

Feeling slightly better now thanks to Exeter's effort. At least, now I can say our kit's not the worst one in L2 this year.
