When you've had a season like Halifax's it's your only crumb of comfort, even though the numbers are a shadow of your heyday while ours are steadily improving as the club expands its appeal beyond the top of Nailsworth.

or is it just a way to make themselves feel superior to supporters of teams above them in the table?

Mainly that. It's all some of these fans have got to cling on to.

The ironic thing is that in B2TF's case, his club don't draw good support home or away, so why he thinks bringing attention to the size of any clubs support is a good idea is beyond me. All it does is give people reason to highlight the fact his club have very few fans. Given their predecessors supposed illustrious history, the support for the new club is actually shockingly poor.

In short, willy waving isn't a good idea if you haven't got a big willy to wave. And if you have, you don't really need to.

That doesn't really add up. The away support threads are the most popular on each different section of the forum with pretty much every club having fans contribute. Do Middlesbrough supporters really have nothing else to cling to? A Sheffield Wednesday fan does the averages, are you saying he has nothing else to cling on to whilst they are sitting in the play off positions?

Most football fans are interested in it, get over it.

Well obviously Forest Green, and clubs like them (Eastleigh, Fylde, North Ferriby) are the future of football.

I've never said anything like that.

Ah. Apologies. It might have been the other FGR fan.

Or maybe I dreamt it.

FGRs attendances (home at least) haven't been that bad in the main this year have they? If you make it into the league I'd imagine you'll get similar crowds to Cheltenham.

The only thing I've ever said about our future which seems to have put peoples backs up, was that we could be an English equivalent to Hoffenheim. Small village club, taken over by local multi-millionaire, built new out of town stadium which attracted fans from the entire region as they climbed the leagues. Of course that's a pipe dream atm,and it might never happen, but it is something to aspire to and DV is definitely very ambitious.

As for our crowds, our current average is just under 1700, putting us 9th in this division. Not bad for by far the smallest catchment area. That would put us ahead of Accrington and Morecambe in league 2, both of whom seem to be doing alright and have survived in the league for a number of years.

Obviously, but why? Why are you or anyone else interested? I'd imagine there has to be more to it than just curiosity at the stats and willy-waving. Or perhaps it is that base.

If nobody was interested in attendances then why do they keep announcing it (and the away turnouts at many clubs)?
Exactly, I think we've established folks are interested, a 60 page thread is testament to that. At FGR it's a tradition to applause the away fans when their attendance number is announced no matter how big or small, but I still don't get the obsession, the willy-waving and sometimes the vitriol.

Unsegregated at Welling today but i'd estimate around 250 Shots fans in attendance.

Whilst in general away fans means absolutely fuck all, it does show the loyalty of your core support IMO.

The fans that travel hundreds of miles on a weekly basis are the ones that will still be there if you're bottom of the league, they'll still be there when it financially turns to shite.

So yes, whilst it might mean nothing to FGR right now, and rightly so, if things go wrong, who's going to pick up the pieces? Or even start a new club if that's what is required.

Growing home attendances is all well and good, but away attendances is a pretty good measure on the proportion of those there for a good ride and those there for the long haul.

Current averages, missing figures in red, averages with a * denoting a skewed average due to missing figures. This will be my last update of these as I don't really have the time to do them anymore. Wanted to ask if there was anyone willing to take up the reigns but if not there's someone who can check and update every now and then.

Why not see if Walkley Owl on Championship thread can do them and post them on here? He does all sorts of different away table percentages etc so seems to have lots of spare time to do them.

There you go. That's as good a guide as any as to who are the REAL football clubs and who are the Tin Potters and fully supports my assertions on this forum.

I expect ours will drop a little with a lot of our remaining away games being night games and long trips to FGR Woking Cheltenham and Aldershot amongst them.
Although hopefull Guiseley and then Macc at Easter may balance it back out a bit.

The FGR free bus and other means brought around 50-55 FGR supporters to Barrow Yesterday.
Cardsfan, we had had 133 at Gateshead announced over the PA system during the game.
Some of the other figures don't tally with games that I've been at!!!
