Not pubs that are so crap that they're ranked 93rd or lower in your list of decent pubs, but properly good pubs near non-league grounds/'round town. We're talking a few real ales, hopefully more creative choices than Greene King IPA, Copper Dragon and Black Sheep, friendly locals/staff, no loud music/TVs (preferably none at all), little by way of cash machines/pub quiz machines, decent food of varying price, nicely fit out, then the likes of pub dogs and pretzel pieces are a bonus. Closer to the ground the better but anywhere in town will do and the odd out-of-towner is doable if you're driving and have time. That sort of thing.

I'm asking because I'm gonna try beat rush hour in Salford and get to Southport early tonight. Anywhere worth visiting around Haig Avenue/elsewhere in Southport?

As it would appear that there are no active Southport fans on here, i feel you may be clutching at straws a little bit...! ;) :D

I got wind of that but I'm hoping other travelling fans might have an idea! Nowt in Good Beer Guide and probably wouldn't go back to the two I went to last time.

When you're next in Lincoln and want real ales/house ales, then you'll want to be heading for the Bailgate area in Lincoln although it's a 15 minute or so walk to SB.

If you're down at ours next week, The Crimea is the best place to head, right outside the front of the ground. Good pub with a good selection of ales on, usually from Wadsworth, but there is also a nice pint of Seafarers on at the moment or Adnams Ghost Ship.

Superb away day Lincoln, top quality pubs up around the Cathedral.

The best real ale pub I've ever been in on an away day, in my top 5 pubs all time as well, is now in the Conference North - Crown Inn in Stockport. Must get back up there, Crown when it opens, watch a Stockport game, then into Manchester after the game. Such a shame they are now in a league with one man and his dog as away fans, more people need to know about the Crown.

Decent boozer the Crown, try The Magnet just up the A6 towards Reddish as well, great beers in there too.

The Cock Hotel near Tellford's ground is my favourite away boozer.

Usually has about 10 real ales on and also has an extensive menu of bottled beers.

http://www.cockhotel.co.uk/

As for pubs/clubs at grounds then special mention for The Green Man at Forest Green and Boots and Laces at Torquay.

Didn't see this post till after the game tonight but the last time I went to Southport we spent a couple of enjoyable hours in a real ale pub called, rather confusingly, The Guest House in the centre of Southport. A good 15-20 minutes walk from the ground though.

Best real ale place near the ground is the Golden Eagle, couple of Wetherspoons as well, also try the Still, William Foster in the city centre/shopping area, also there's a Bateman's pub on the high street called the Treaty of Commerce too very near the railway line.

Glad to come back on here and see this thread's got a bit of traction!

I endorse the Crown in Stockport. You can hardly beat somewhere like that. When I got completely stuck in Manchester trying to get to Alfreton away one night this season we just gave up and went to the Crown. Then walked up the A6 towards the Magnet. Rang someone just before full-time to tell them I was in the Magnet and the bartender shouted "This is the Midland!"

Brother was an hour late last night but we managed to find the Richmond on the A road towards the ground, a vast new pub that's more for diners and functions, but it did Holt's so we were happy. I'd recommend it to those arriving in Scouseport with little time to spare, although on reflection I should've gone to the Crown again and avoided that game.

There's nowhere within walking distance of the Hive that I would recommend. You're better off drinking elsewhere and then proceeding onwards to Canons Park.

Went to Change of Hart last time. So rough that we had to pay a £5 deposit for the pool cues.

Yup, it's where Stones supporters used to drink before home games when we groundshared at Edgware.

Was it any good back then?

Can't say, I was 13 (nearly 14) when we left Edgware. There was a thread on our forum about the pub a few weeks back, I'll see if I can dig it up. Seem to recall them saying it was alright back in the day but turned shite not long before we were once again on our nomadic travels.

Yeah it was grim when we went in. We took 300 Town fans last season but no-one else had bothered with the pub other than QPR fans watching the screens. It was a nice day out so we tried for the beer garden which was covered in pot-holes and cigarette stubs with piped music playing louder than speaking volume. Decided we preferred the sound of QPR fans effing and jeffing non-stop indoors. There was an old man bent over his drink at the bar and I was surprised to see him move after a while, genuinely looked like he'd just died some time ago, fittings were ripped out, food was grim but we just wanted somewhere to go.

I guess since Wealdstone played in Edgware they've had a (*puts on sunglasses*) change of heart.

You said you went to Wrexham when in fact, you did not sir!!
WTF? I have witnesses who went with me, as no one on here has a fucking clue who I am or what I look like no one on here has a fucking clue whether I went or not and adding an exclamation mark to your statement doesn't make it any less bullshit. :box:

That just sound proper grim, as bad (allegedly) as the pub in the Mock-Tudor building that used to be open on Edgware High Street.
Still hey, at least the match more than made it up for you. I'm pretty sure we won't be so generous to you this time.

That's just a load of made up bullshit isn't it. I don't have anything to prove to you or anybody else. I didn't go to the game, I did go to the game, you have no idea at all whether I went or not. Why do you supposed I'd lie about being there at the most boring nil-nil draw you could imagine? Please explain what advantage am I gaining with this lie? If I was going to lie, although I don't generally deal in them, it would be out of some kind of necessity e.g. I needed an alibi in a murder investigation or I found a winning lottery ticket that was bought in Wrexham. Over to you. :dk:

I have no idea as to why you would lie about it as i am not a psychologist.
I suppose with some of the shite you put in your posts, you were just carrying on in your usual way, spouting shit that no-one could give two fucks about.
You got caught out with this at the time, so i don't know why you are now suddenly denying it?
It's not like anyones opinion of you will change from what it already is now, that you are an annoying bollocks spouting moron. :woot: :box:

Let's have a link to this? This should be interesting, you have no evidence and you are unable to provide a motive. Good Luck.

Well as it was on the old TFF forum that no longer exists, it would be a bit difficult to get a link!
And as for 'evidence', as we are not in a court of law, I do not need to thanks bonehead. :woo:
Now its funny that for someone like you, who purposely comes on here to annoy people, you do not seem to like getting anything thrown back at you.
Strange that.........:whistle::bye:
