Croatia like a penalty shoot out

Japan’s penalties looked a bit tired

I don't know why many modern football players persist with short terrible run ups for penalties and not just smash them in instead of going for them little fanny taps.
Neymar did one tonight but luckily for him scored.

Fair to say Portugal didn’t miss Ronaldo.

A few teams will be after Ramos in January

Players taking FANNY run ups and FANNY shots for penalties have done me again. :hb:

If you were the Portugal manager would you play ronaldo or stick with hat trick hero ramos…
Can’t help but blame pochettino for losing the champions league final by dropping Lucas Mora in favour of harry Kane…

Portugal are a far better outfit without Ronaldo, his ego has got the better of him. Portugal without Ronaldo have a great chance of winning the World Cup, play him from the start, Morocco go through.

Ronaldo will start on the bench, it’ll be 2-0 to Portugal with about 20 minutes left, he’ll come on do nothing apart from ‘win’ a late pen score it and then act like them winning is all down to him. Piers Morgan will whack one out in public calling his new best mate the GOAT.

I'm tired of the likes of Ronaldo, it's time he just fecked off as he's way past his best now and there are new, younger, better players than him in the world.

How him and Messi can be considered the greatest is ludicrous as neither has won a world cup.

Pele won 3.

For Saturday’s game all the talk has been of Walker v Mbappe down our right, but tbh what I would prefer to see is Walker play alongside Stones at CB with Trippier at RB. Nothing against Maguire who’s been good but that leaves us with the best of both worlds, Walker’s pace and Trippier’s defensive nous covering the right side of our defence, Rice & Henderson protecting the back 4 and Bellingham, Saka & Foden supporting Kane. Plus an added bonus is Trippier’s free kicks.

Doesn't matter what we do, we're England and we never beat good elite teams at tournaments as it is always written in the stars, even if it goes to penalties.

We will fall short and the difference like always will be that they have better technical and world class players etc and we'll be too negative.

We've seen it all before, same old story.

Yeah I tend to agree, I’ve seen enough tournaments down the years to know how it all ends. It’s the hope that kills though.

Definitely going to need to do it the hard way to win it this time, France, Portugal and then Brazil to win it. Not like the previous 2 tournaments when we’ve had Sweden/Ukraine in the quarters and Croatia/Denmark in the semis.

You never know though, maybe this tournament will be our time again at last, even if we could just beat France that would be something.
Still, we've done much better under Southgate than the previous failures of our so called 'golden generation' who were complete bottlers more interested in their club rivalries than the national team. Never did I imagine seeing England reach a world cup semi final and a Euros final after that Iceland disaster.

I think you are writing the Dutch off too quickly, Brazil have had it easy so far they won’t get an easy game against them.

The Dutch have been solid so far and looked good v USA, but not sure they’ve got enough about them going forward to beat Brazil, plus they’ve got to beat the Argies first anyway. Which won’t be easy.

I didn’t say it would be easy but the Dutch have a master tactician at the helm, Argentina haven’t been great and I can’t see them being able to beat them. It’s going to be really interesting to see how Brasil react when they are put under pressure for the first time.

hope we dont forget the threat of dembele v shaw or giroud v maguire in other areas other than mbappe...
Exactly .

Mark Mbappe well then someone else scores!

The French are probably hoping we are so focused on one player we forget about the rest .
