Looks like they are going to postpone the return of fans.

Piss poor in my opinion. You can still go stumbling around pissed in a boozer yet you can’t go and stand or sit in masks at a reduced capacity socially distanced football ground for 2 hours a week. Ridiculous.

Be interesting at the Abbey on Saturday if they’re limiting it to a thousand people. Pretty sure we’ve got about 1,500 season ticket holders now and all the tickets have been received by fans.

Restricted to 1,000. Was going to be 2,500 with remaining tickets on sale. But in theory 1,500+ people already have a ticket for Saturday.

Yep, it's going to be a headache for the club, and I'm hoping they go for a sort of 'first come first served' basis. That seems the fairest way to me. One thing's certain; there's going to be more than a few disappointed ST holders on Saturday.

So, I can sit in amongst a thousand or so others at a football stadium but I can't have more than 6 mates for a get together for my birthday? Absolutely laughable.

Yep my dad renewed his in April, I’d hope those 566 or however many it was who renewed then or guaranteed entry as they’re the ones who helped the club through the summer. But no idea how you decide on the rest - I can only go with your suggestion of first come first served. Unless they play it behind closed doors so no one feels disadvantaged (or everyone does but no one feels unprioritised). It’s a right old mess.

Yep and you can go to the pub with god knows how many people but you can’t go round a mate’s house with a group of seven of you, even if you all sit in a garden.

I don't think your birthday party was specified in the briefing.

The difference is, a football club can - in theory - ensure social distancing and masks etc.

What a stupid comment.

We're talking SIX people. Yes, SIX!

Yet you think there's more chance of anything happening than a 1,000 people who will undoubtedly pass each other at some point or other. Impossible to constantly be kept exactly 2 metres or more apart and always ensure faces are sufficiently covered. Government is on its arse in this country. I've socialised ONCE since the end of February as well as picking up the pieces of a breakup. Don't think people quite understand the severity of this shite constantly made up as they go along, in regards to people's mental health struggles. Making it stupidly hard to even live your life properly.

We can all go watch our step 6 or 7 local teams this weekend, and they will allow 400-600 in. However we can't have more than 1000 in our ground which holds 8,100? Just doesn't make sense.

I also think they have to take the R rate in our county into consideration. Currently below 1.

I agree with Dan to be honest, I mean we have to look at the real picture rather than the graphs the government show which fail to tell the true story...

In April the estimates were that 100,000 were positive a day, down to lack of testing at the time, now with huge testing its around 2500-3000, even accounting for missed cases it's probably around 5% of what it was.

The Don't Kill Granny line just sums the whole thing up, ultimately many more will die not of Covid but of missed cancer treatments, poverty, suicide than they will the virus in the end.

Now educated surely its down to individuals to risk access their situations than the government to enforce it? If you want to get on with life do so, if you are high risk and dont want to risk it dont risk it, if your prepared to (believe it is still over 99% survival rate even then) risk it with an underlying conditions then let people do so.

Things like daily mass testing to be aloud to go football, theatre or work even and the idea of Covid Marshall's wandering around fining people is something you'd expect in a communist state rather than the United Kingdom!

Also have to look at the fact the longer we try and suppress the virus surely the longer before it will end as a pandemic and are still putting all our eggs in the vaccine basket (even the flu vaccine is only a certain % effective)

Cant ever say i've got a cold or flu or something and thought, "bloody hell must of caught that down the Vale at the weekend" if the crowds roll back to potentially after Christmas it will kill lower league clubs.

How's it a stupid comment? I've literally just told you why the guidelines are as they are.

It doesn't really matter the number - it's not about stopping you and your six mates, it's about stopping that family of idiots over the road from having 20 people round for a kids party and them spreading things around.

Social distancing is doing my tits in now. I’m aware how simplistic this will sound, but fuck it I’m gonna say it anyway. The vast majority of the population will barely be touched by Covid, it’s not a risk to them. We know the age groups and the groups with pre existing conditions that are most at risk, and those people know who they are. Why are they not shielding still and the rest of us living a normal life? Obviously it would be a brutal few months for those people, but the lesser of two evils and all that.

*Edit - Having thought about it, this wouldn’t work as it would need strong messaging and enforcement from the government. And obviously that wouldn’t happen.

Expected that... depressing... wonder where this will leave level 3 and below and if the National League can now start at all as they were waiting until October for fans to be able to attend financially.

Yep, such a shame. According to the Covid App I report to, there are currently 77 active cases in the whole of Cambridge (population 124,000). With season ticket holders only, the ground would have been one fifth full (1,600 out of 8,000). With one way systems, additional toilets, face masks etc, the risk would be mitigated further. There would have been more chance getting run over outside the ground than catching Covid on Saturday. It’s bollocks from the government.

It feels like they did a lot to make sure shops reopened, then did a lot to make sure pubs reopen, gyms reopen, restaurants, just about everything so that they could get back to bringing in income... but football clubs, na fuck em. They can all go bust. If it ends up after new year, we’ll be getting on for a year without the main source of income for football clubs. How are they meant to survive this?

Yeah, gather in your local Wetherspoons with 100 or so other people, half of whom gave their name on entry as Mickey Mouse and are lying about who is in their household so that the chances of track and trace actually working are minimal. That's fine. Go to support your local football club where you'll have to wear a mask and can't avoid giving your real name and address (for ST holders), not a chance.

The government are saying that the timeline to allow fans back into stadiums for the beginning of October remains in place despite the tightening of restrictions elsewhere.

And so it should, Germany managed to get 10,000 in yesterday. Yet the UK, despite having an almost identical number of deaths are holding back. Our media don’t help it, they’ll scream blue murder once we are allowed back in until the government are forced to back down and the cycle will continue until a few of us go bust.

The entire thing is a farce, we’re suddenly incapable of risk assessing ourselves for a virus highly unlikely to kill any of the demographic who are likely to attend a game.
