Crewe have been put into a group with Wrexham and Port Vale. Just makes the competition a bigger force imo. Putting us in a group with probably our biggest rivals in the efl to try and force bigger crowds. I hope fans still boycott it, just fear Vale and particularly Wrexham fans will turn up in force at our place for which ever one has to come to us.

They do it every year generally in terms of regionalising it. We've played you a couple of times.

That said whichever is away I think we will travel, Wrexham was always a big game and may pull a few more in than normally would travel.

Luckily Stoke U21's don't get invited anymore or that would make the group very spicy!

They're the most fixed groups I've ever seen.

Papa John's have dropped their sponsorship by the looks of things, it's just being branded the EFL Trophy again.

It's rightly boycotted. The u21 sides in it are a joke.

Two tasty looking games with Derby and Lincoln (we’ve never been to Pride Park) and I still won’t be going while they’re letting in u 21 teams.

What’s the odds our group mysteriously ends up with Forest u21s as well.

I think the U21 team is the only random and open to the public bit of the draw.

These groups are unquestionably fixed. Most groups contain more or less the 3 closest teams in the respective area.

This is true! we have ended up with the gas and Cheltenham and thats only because some dick at the draw didn't realise that stroud is closer to both us and the gas than Cheltenham is.

Warm balls, more than likely.

The one redeeming feature of this rubbish is that it isn’t the FA Trophy.

Fleetwood and Wigan for Rovers. Uninspiring, playing both pre-season and there are a number of eligible teams closer than Fleetwood.

There are no tasty games in the JPT!

EDIT - Unless 'tasty' was a reference to it being a Pizza sponsored competition!

Reading and Exeter.

Haven’t played Reading for 20 odd years. Can see a few going there if it’s away.

Shrewsbury and Walsall, first time we've had the Shrews in this competition I think. Still, keep up the boycott and that

Seen more than enough of Shrewsbury last season. Not seeing this game is fine by me. Put the kids in and go out asap.

Novelty value for us I suppose, like it was for you the year you won it and I was telling anyone who’d listen that it would be the gateway drug for u 21 sides into the league. Seems like that won’t happen but I’m still against it on principal.

Our history in this competition is amazingly shit, we’ve not got past the quarter final since the early 90s I don’t think and been knocked out in the first round like 75% of the time in the last 20 years. We were boycotting it before it was cool.

I didn’t think that you have entered the competition for 20% of the time in the last 20 years.

When we were up here obviously. We cornered a funny niche in the FA Trophy of losing in the semi-final every year.

I was doing us down slightly, we weren’t quite as bad the few years before we went down and it was a group stage. When it was just a straight knock-out we were on a solid run of 11 first round defeats in 12 seasons, with the other being second round.

Anyone who goes to these games is a fraud of a fan, give yourself a long hard slap if you do, and repeat if necessary.

We’re in the same group as burton and doncaster though.

You’ve got to understand the different stages of this cup, the first being your level of interest based on how tin pot you are.
Second, assuming you’re in the majority ‘I hate this competition’, you still despite this keep half an eye on your first game given how early it is and how much you’ve missed football/want to see new signings.
Third stage, second game, you have less interest until full time after you’ve beaten Burnley u14’s on penalties despite them having nearly fifty year old Ade Akinbiyi up front. You’ve suddenly a mathematical chance of qualifying, ‘It’s a good money earner the longer you stay in’ you start to tell yourself.
Stage four, your reserve team has beaten another L2 reserve team and you’re through to the next round, ‘I hope we give this a go the prize money is actually decent’.
Stage five, you’re knocked out by a L1 reserve team and your hate for the competition returns for another year, it’s a shit trophy anyway. You flick the channels some time in the spring and stumble across the actual final, blimey I didn’t even know this was still going, who’s even playing?

Our home game vs Man U is a sell-out tonight... well, a half sell-out, because capacity is capped at 5k because of not enough matchday staff.

Can you be both massive AND tinpot at once?

Selling out a match in this competition is pretty tinpot yeah.
