Why Leyton Orient by the way? I've never known and I'm curious, but not curious enough to look it up.

Well seeing as the last time we wuz on the telly, we lost to the mighty Blyth Spartans, the cameras don't seem to bring us much luck. On the other hand, the last time we were on the telly on a Sunday lunchtime we beat Burton 1-0 at theirs and drew Sunderland in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, with newbie Joel Porter scoring the winner. The draw was on the radio straight after the game and I was that shocked I dropped the clutch and rear ended the car in front of me which was full of disgruntled Burton fans. I met Brian Clough that day as well but he didn't remember me being his paper boy.

Anyway, ramble over, we've finally cracked the home hoo-doo but LO will be a bigger test than Cheltenham, but we've got Magnay and Harrison back and a few back in form, Duckworth, seems back to his best and the two new loans are getting good reports so we might have a bit more creativity.

I'm going for another nervy 1-0 home win.

Why Leyton Orient? More's the point, why Hartlepool?

At a guess, maybe this match was selected for the telly earlier on in the season when both teams had 100% records and someone thought there was a change of it being a top-of-the-table clash.

This has become a huge mission for me to get to, as I will be going to the Spain v England game in Alicante on the Friday I assumed that this wasn't going to be moved at all, so decided to give this one a miss (My only miss this season) so I am flying back late from Madrid on the Saturday and get in around 19.30 back to the UK........then those fuckers Sky decided to move the game to Sunday and make it a 12.15 kick off, the fucking c***.

Now I am on a 7.30am flight from Heathrow to Newcastle, where I will pick up the metro from there to the town centre, before picking up the 10am train to Hartlepool which gets me in to Hartlepool at 10.45am for the game.

I am also then flying back on the 8.30pm. I am looking at getting home at midnight after a nice 4.30am start.

If I don't post on here the day after the game, just presume I'm dead.

Why Leyton Orient? Well, we've moved around the North/East London area all our lifes. We was forced to move from Clapton at the turn of the century to Leyton because Arsenal moved in from South of the river. Since then we've gone from Leyton Orient, to Orient, back to Leyton Orient. Gone from playing in white, to blue to red. Its all very complicated.

Oh and our record is shit at Hartlepool, I still remember the first time I ever saw us win there a scrappy 1-0 win in 2009 when the goal was a clearance which cannoed off our defender Tamika Mkandawire and into the net. This will be my 7th visit, last time we lost 2-1 with 2 goals in the last 2mins.

We will lose 4-0 probably, we cannot defend for shit and don't keep clean sheets, plus our young rookie Keeper will be in goal as our number one Alex Cisak is with Australia.

This has disaster written all over it, what a waste of time :ffs:

RefWatch; Ref for Pools v Orient (played 44 times, Pools won 17, Orient won 18, 8 draws) is Paul Tierney, 35, a barber from Wigan. Perfect, perfect hair. FL ref since '08, has done a couple of Prem games this season. Consensus is that he is good, but a bit blowey. Reffed Pools 8 times (W1 D1 L 6 - 23Y & 2R), most recently the 2-1 home loss to Luton in Oct '14. Reffed Orient twice, (1W, 1D - 4Y &1R), latest one the 2-2 draw away at Brentford in Jan '13. Attacking stats; Pools have 61 shots on target this season with 15 goals - joint lowest in the league; Orient have 79 on target with 26 goals - 6th best. Foul stats; Pools have conceded 132 fouls - lowest in league; Orient conceded 180 - highish. C'mon Pools, score some bloody goals & kick some people. Tierney's home win % is 40% - low. In 37 games last season he gave 137 Y & 8 R - huge. Sammy Moore is guaranteed at least a yellow.

You haven't seen us lately... Clueless hoofball up to a Conference striker with the best player in the division sitting on the bench and an abject inability to stop conceding soft goals. It's a joy to watch.

As for the 'Orient' bit of our name, it's commonly thought that one of our players in the late 1880s worked for the Orient Shipping Line (later to become the 'O' in 'P&O') and thought that it fitted well with our East London location better than 'Eagle FC' as we were at the time (having originally been founded as part of Glyn Cricket Club in 1881 - think we hold the record for most name changes by an FL club).

I'm feeling much more confident about this game than I was before the weekend, that despite watching us be outplayed by a conference team.

Providing Ronnie sticks with the same two centre backs, and Magnay is straight back into the team in place of Featherweight (Can we call him that still, what with his crunching tackle for our goal on Sat?), then I do think we have a chance.

Jake Gray looked excellent when he had the ball at his feet. Far to anonymous on the whole, but I think Magnay will make up for this and allow Gray to play as more of an attacking midfielder than he could alongside Featherstone. The new Centre half from Boro looked a class ahead of Harrison and Magnus.

Paynter will probably be crocked, so would expect Bingham/Fenwick to play upfront, although I would prefer to see Oates given a chance up tops rather than Fenwick. Banton/Kudus on the wings..

That said, Ronnie will probably leave Magnay on the bench, put Harrison at centre half in place of Bates, and insist we 'drop off' as soon as Orient get the ball.

Why the fuck is this on TV? Has 0-0 written all over it.

So all the journo's can wax lyrical about the Arctic breeze off the North Sea and seagulls whilst watching it in the Red Lion.

Thanks for the info on the Orient bit. I thought it might have something to do with shipping.

By the way, hoofs upfield to uninspiring strikers are our achilles heel.

Was it you or another Poolie I heard saying your weakness was teams making use of the wide areas?

Basically the message I take is that if Orient either bring the ball forward down the wings, hoof it forward, play on the counter, hope to score from set-pieces or play it through the the middle, then they're likely to win.

If they score 10 own goals then they're likely to lose.

Ronnie has yet to play all the players he signed all at once... Sunday will be the closest so far .... I can't see Orient running through us as others have ...If Orient do get anything they'll have to work for it

Any excuse to whack this out (cheers CF for showing me this, genuinely my favourite YouTube video)

I mean, this, THIS, is our uninspiring striker. I can tell you now that miss for Woking isn't a one off, he missed worse v Accrington last week.

Should point out we also have Jay Simpson who is fantastically good, and Dean Cox who is basically the best player in the division.

We also have like, one fit central defender, as we only have two in the squad... Wicked. I expect Bingham (genuinely this time) and Oates to cause us problems down our left.

We've loaned a (looks like ) decent midfielder from Palace , hopefully that will free up Oates and Bingham to do what they are paid for

Looking forward to seeing what makeshift defence (/post-match excuse) Hendon comes up with for this one. Can't believe he hasn't brought someone in as cover this week. Maybe he'll just play a fifth central midfielder and hope no-one notices?

Reckon we'll scrape over the three-figure mark for attendance, which would be pretty darn decent for a 520-mile Sunday midday kick off that's live on t'telly and physically impossible to get to via public transport from London.

I'm pleased you've noticed the awful train service we have up here ...you have put out for one day , we have to manage 365 days a year with it ...
