Hungerford at home this Sat. Mixture of first team and Dev squad plus a few trialing with no one playing more than 45 minutes would be my guess

we have (all away, as we are bedding in our new pitch):

Thurs 16th Jul US Avranches (random French team)
Tues 21st Jul Wealdstone
Tues 28 Jul Basingstoke Town
Sat 1 August Aldershot

plus a behind closed doors game.

I don't think it's a great idea that all the teams are at a lower level though, obviously PSFs are never really an accurate yardstick of anything, given they're mostly a fitness exercise and a chance to try out new players and tinker with formations, but it's still good to test your squad vs better players.

Against Hungerford Town no less! How the hell did you concede to them, isn't that pretty horrendous in itself?

Rainworth 1 - 5 Mansfield
Anthony Dwyer, Nicky Hunt, Craig Westcarr, Adi Yussuff x2 with the goals.

Westcarr got a hat trick of assists.

Good to see he's finally found his level. What are Rainworth? Evo division one North or summat, one division below Ilkeston.

We've got our feel good first friendly back against Arnold Town on Wednesday. We smashed them last season with a bunch of youth teamers we ended up releasing so hopefully we twat them by more this time round. And someone snaps that prick who injured Spencer, Alan Smith preferably as I don't mind if he gets injured in the process, kamikaze style.

Guess it's always good to get run outs against sides like rainworth. Results matter little but good match fitness and time on the pitch.

Am happy we always have a pre-season with them, nice club and its valuable money to their cause.

I do hope westcarr comes good this season for us

Don't place any stock in results of pre-season games, but it was good to hear that one of our youth team, Fumnaya Shomotun, made a good impression. Highly regarded by those at the club and one that hopefully can make some impression over the next couple of seasons.

Started with a 4-0 win over St Albans night, Ashley Chambers, Jack Connors and Bayan Fenwick (ex Palace on trial) with the goals.

Alex Lacey, Matt Robinson and Josh Passley also on trial for us.

Are we doing the preseason league table again?

I'll get it going shortly :smug:

We're at Blyth Spartans tonight.

2 different 11s for each half including a few trialists but quite a number of first team players not involved (they'll presumably play on Thursday at Workington or Saturday at Penrith)

First half: Gillespie, Miller, Raynes, Atkinson, Grainger, Thompson, Dicker, Dombaxe, Logan, Hill, Ibehre.

Second half: Hanford, McQueen, Pappoe, Meppen-Walter, Brough, Osei, Sweeney, Francis, Kearns, Nana Asamoah, Rigg.

Notable absentees: Troy Archibald-Henville, Jason Kennedy, Luke Joyce, Angelo Balanta, Bastien Hery, Kyle Dempsey, Charlie Wyke, Mark Beck, Derek Asamoah.

I think you actually have to play a game to get on the score sheet.

The mighty Rakish is at an Army fitness camp until Friday and our first friendlies are Monday and Tuesday.

Only notables are Scunny and Chesterfield at home and seven non-league teams away.

We're currently playing our first game, away at mid-table Second Division Portugese side SC Farense.

Starting XI is:

Elliot Justham

Stephen O'Donnell
Trialist
Luke Wilkinson
Scott Griffiths

Alex Lawless
Luke Guttridge
Nathan Doyle
Ryan Hall

Josh McQuoid
Craig Mackail-Smith

No idea who the trialist is, although in recent days there have been rumours (on our board) that Mark O'Brien is with us, and also (on Dagenham's board) that Scott Doe is with us. Could be one of them I guess... probably neither.

We beat SC Farense 1-0 in the end. No idea what quality they are, but they beat us 2-0 this time last year if memory serves so progress perhaps.

We had a few trialists involved - a keeper, a central defender, a left winger and Craig Mackail-Smith (not sure if he can really be counted as a trialist but whatever). No idea who any of the unnamed ones would be. A bit surprised that we'd even be thinking of looking at new goalkeepers - hopefully that's not a hint that Tyler's ongoing knee problems are worse than we have been told.

Arnold Town Are two levels below the northern premier. Like playing a pub team with Alan Smith in defence for 45 mins

and then Ilkeston midfielder David Morgan played centre-back in the second half  - Fuck defenders.

As good a result you can get from playing a side like that though. Far more impressive than when we played them this stage last season - Stead scores, young striker bags 4, two youth team graduates get goals, new foreign signings all did ok playing on a crap overgrown pitch against some pub players who fancied leathering them a bit.

Alfreton will be out first 'interesting' friendly purely because we normally do shite against Conf/Conf North teams - last year's loss and scoreless draw against Halifax and Nuneaton was absolute torture, you couldn't tell which side were the league side and which weren't - which should be a minimum expectation in a friendly.

Fairly safe to say that we didn't plan on defending this evening. I get the impression we might add another friendly to keep the players fit. We seem to have one game to few this year

Pre-Season League first update, Accrington's game doesn't count as it was an XI of trialists and youngsters.

Team......................GP..............GF............GA...................GD...........Points

Northampton............2.................6...............2.....................+4................6
Barnet......................1.................6...............1......................+5................3
Dagenham...............1.................4...............0......................+4................3
Mansfield.................1.................5...............1......................+4................3
Carlisle....................1.................1................0.....................+1................3
Luton.......................1.................1................0.....................+1................3
Exeter......................1.................1...............1.......................0.................1

Northampton lead the way early on following victories over Worthing and Sileby, although in the final table they'd be behind Barnet as it goes on a points per game ratio :smug: Scores that count will be decided by me (talking about what we class as first team or XI's), unless there's a mass furore with pitchforks and shit by L2 members.
