Our pre season schedule ramps up this week after the players arrived back from Portugal on Friday afternoon:

Today: Lowestoft Town (A) - agreed as part of the Curtley Williams transfer.
Tuesday: Boreham Wood (A) - BW unofficially are our 'feeder club'.
Thursday: Hitchin Town (A) - the traditional clash; typically 750+ Luton fans travel up.
Saturday: Peacehaven & Telscombe (A) - agreed as part of the (now departed) Charlie Walker transfer.

Workington 0-3 Carlisle United (Thurs)

Early doors in the pre-season league and Carlisle are cheating by playing games every other day while Notts County are doing that thing you do on FM where you find a bunch of shit teams and absolutely tonk them to get morale up. I mean Rolls Royce FC? Come on guys, at least make an effort.

Meanwhile Yeovil went completely left field and played a cricket match because Paul Sturrock's don't answer to no man.
AFC Wimbledon should get extra points for drawing with a premiership club. At least 15 should do

Very much a Luton Town XI in today's game v Lowestoft. Only 8 contracted professionals in the 18 man squad, of which 3 are first year pros. 2 transfer listed players also make an appearance.

Craig King, Curtley Williams (c), Luke Trotman, Frankie Musunda, Tinashe Abrahams, Isaac Galliford, Matt Robinson, Andy Parry, Mustapha Teryaki, Zane Banton, Jake Howells

Dan Gleeson, Rossi Jarvis and Ryan Jarvis in the Lowestoft side.

Rovers complete their weekend double-header with a 2-1 victory at Sutton.

A Chris Lines free-kick and a second from youth team player Ryan Broom.

Won 2-1 at Sutton this afternoon, sounds a good run out for the players who didn't play yesterday. On a 3G pitch too!

EDIT: Beaten to it!

2-0 to Luton so far, close to the end of the game. Both goals scored by Mustafa Tiryaki, a 28-year old striker of Turkish parentage, currently plying his trade in the Turkish 2nd Division. Has scored goals in the English non leagues, as well as spells at Tranmere and Cambridge.

Did you really think anyone would be interested in any of that? It's not This Is Your Life.

my apogees, was just trying to save some typing. Thanks for the heads up. I will now go to the blackboard and write 100 times. it is AFC Wimbledon.
Cheers :)

Sorry, I was a bit arsey and grumpy there. Does winds me up a bit though.

Back to the Watford game, I didn't go but by all accounts Tom Elliott was impressive and the way young Will Nightingale at the back dealt with Beeney and co suggested he may turn out to be the star a lot of people at the club are hoping he might be.

All these fans getting stroppy over a name. You should've seen Bristol Rovers fans getting upset because there was already a team referred to as Rovers in the conference. It's ironic that calling them Bristol (i.e. the place they play) upset them, when Wimbledon fans want to be referred to by the place despite not playing in Wimbledon.
Us Harrow Bees have no such problems :conf:

Sorry about that - was writing on my phone and being a bit lazy!

Should give Wimbledon more respect (even more so as they have 2 of our ex players in charge!)

In our friendly last Saturday at Didcot we did not feature a single triallist.
Nor will we be playing any triallists in our remaining pre-season friendlies.

Appleton identified seven players he wanted and he got six of them within a week of our season ending.

Only Alfie Mawson got away. Our team is very settled already.

Seems a pretty ignorant way of doing things unless he's certain that the team you've got will win him the league?

Maybe - maybe not. Appleton is confident and the whole of Oxford is buzzing right at the moment. Over 3000 season tickets sold already.
If Kemar Roofe stays injury free he will have 20 goals by Christmas. I do suspect he may be targeted by opposing defences and scythed down quite a few time though.
Plus the signings of Slocombe, Sercombe, Taylor, Baldock, Skarz, and McDonald make the team virtually pick itself and we have a multitude of youngsters coming through

I may well land up with egg on my face - but who cares. I feel good right now.

Sercombe is a "hard worker".

Just don't let him shoot. Or take too many touches. Or play too often.

And don't expect him to stay fully fit either. At least one of his ankles usually breaks on him.

Just a reminder that Hartlepool will be playing Billingham at 19.00. That's all.

What's the lowest level of opponent a league 2 team is facing this preseason? I'd imagine Billingham are pretty far down there in terms of lowliness. What are they, tier 10 or 11?
The lowest we've played is Penrith (tier 9) and that seemed like a waste of time.

It is just my perception but it seems that no team ever plays another from the same league, pre season, am I right ?

Think you're right certainly at football league level, the only time I can think is when premier league teams play that Asia cup thing. Can't recall us ever playing a team from the same league in preseason.

I really cant see why teams from level 4 would want to play someone from level 6 or 7, other than fitness, which the club should have sorted anyway, what is the point. You may as well have a 90 min game in house 11 v 11.

Cambridge United played Cherry Hinton Lions a few years ago, Cherry Hinton being a little village where Josh Coulson (our cb) grew up. Now I've got no idea what level of the pyramid they are but it isn't high I promise you.

It is a bit pointless - Gateshead played Newcastle's first team on Saturday and that's a 4 division gap. We're playing Hitchin on Thursday which I believe is a 2 or 3 division gap. Last season this fixture we won about 5-0 I think - its traditional, but it comes a point where the gap of opposition becomes too great.

It's a full scale training game .... Friendlies are useful and crucial for fitness , I just don't think they warrant an admission charge , or at the most a couple of quid just to cover clean up costs etc
