Shearer has improved an absolute ton since he first started out in punditry so fair play to him. I agree with whoever said Jenas. He comes across clear and is fairly insightful.

Neville and Carragher are on a different level though. Redknapp is on the Sky team simply because he looks good in a suit, as does Henry. Souness is an odd one. Sometimes I find myself in completely agreement, other times I think he's talking bollocks. He often gets his bee in a bonnet over a certain point and can't let go. Still, he's at the very worst "interesting to listen to".

Peter Beagrie really pisses me off as well being a lower league fan. I think it's his face more than anything that annoys me, plus I don't find him that knowledgeable of the lower leagues.

Your ex-Captain Phil Neville is up there with the worst of them tbh and Lineker is absolute wank too so its not as if ex-Everton players are any better.

Hate to tell you, but Lineker is a presenter, not pundit. And he's the best presenter around. Phil Neville is as good s pundit as he was a player.

Savage just tries to be Contrary Man but comes across as the idiot he is.

I don't have Sky so can't comment much on them, but whenever I see Gary Neville I'm always impressed and want to punch Redknapp in the face

Agree about Souness there, Lee. One extreme to the other. I'd keep him

I quite like people like Robbie Savage. He says what he thinks and doesn't try and be Mr Popular.

Martin Tyler has probably fallen more in his role as commentator than anybody in the football media world.

Was once a really good commentator, but has now turned into a Sky catchphrase machine who is only interesting in developing a 'story' in a football game, and not actually commentating on the action that is in front of him.

Although saying that, the absolute worse commentating performance I've heard was from Alan Parry at the Liverpool game on Saturday.

Thick. As. Pig. Shit.

You know what, Mers is growing on me, yes he can't speak properly but now and again he comes away with some salient points. He did last year say Neymar wasn't fit enough to tie Gareth Bale's boots, but I'll let that one pass! :D

I almost feel sorry for Phil Neville. Throughout his career on the pitch he was known as the 'shit one' and now he's trying to follow in his brother's footsteps off the pitch it turns out he can hardly string a sentence together.
Thats what Everton does to you ;)

Lineker puts his views across on MOTD less so than he does on Twatter, but he does try to add to the debate and is usually guff on what he says also. He's bloody awful as a presenter too, Chappers is far better as is the new guy on ITV Pougatch (sic?). They all fall way short of the mighty James Richardson though, he's a colossus!! :D

Savage is complete wank, he only tries to sound controversial like Collymore and like the latter doesn't have the brainpower to back up his views.

Agree completely about Tyler, he used to be a great professional commentator, now he just waffles on over the action, doesn't let the game do the talking and comes up with horrible soundbites and that dreadful phrase "... and it's LIVE!!!!!" as if that really adds to the tension or drama of the ensuing match - he should be put out to pasture. He hasn't been the same since sexist Andy Gray left.

I really like Collymore, I think he offers some very insightful analysis from a technical standpoint.

Loves the sound of his voice, never gives anyone a word whenever they phone in on TalkShite.

Collymore is the lowest of the low, and that's saying something. I'd genuinely rather listen to a debate between Michael Owen and a loaf of bread than have to endure any of Collymore's bullshit.

Absolute wank pheasant he is.

Lol yeah you have a point in fairness, how they find some of those callers I'll never know - completely ignorant dullards - mind you thats what makes it listenable, that and the flawed logic in the presenters arguments.

Haven't either represented Everton throughout their careers? I rest my case.

That's a particularly shoddy piece of analysis because I'm not even a professional athlete and I tie my own laces every single day, Neymar should have no problems keeping up the required levels of fitness to tie up shoe laces.

I think tying shoe laces is beyond Mers as well as he's not the sharpest tool in the box and is also a bit podgy these days! :D

Agreed. However, what Tyler has over most other commentators is an absolute golden voice that can get the goosebumps going during the big moments. You have to have him purely for the outcries a couple of times a season that help produce classic moments.

My favourite commentator of all time though has to be Barry Davies. An extremely intellectual man, fascinating to listen to with some simply fantastic lines during the big moments. I'm still irritated by the fact the BBC always used to choose Motson over him.

I'm surprised that BT haven't got themselves a better selection of pundits given the amount of money they've spent on TV rights recently.

Glenn Hoddle will be a good addition, but David James, Steve McManaman and Michael Owen? Really?
