Nah, I agree with Masi, for a club of your tremendous size, that’s an obvious weak point.

let’s hope he’s just backup

Ours:

Released:

Rob Hall
Dylan Asonganyi
Nico Jones
Fabio Lopes
Jack Stevens (outfield player not our keeper)
Fabio Sole

Contracts offered:

Anthony Forde*
Josh Ruffels*
John Mousinho
Leon Chambers-Parillon
Tyler Goodrham
Kyran Lofthouse

Contract options taken up:

Slavi Spasov
Michael Elechi

All loanees have returned obviously. We may see if we can get Shodipo and Barker (most likely out of the 2 but don't know how likely) back but don't expect to see Liam Kelly in an Oxford shirt again.

*Don't expect either to sign. Rumours that Championship sides interested in Josh Ruffels. I'll wish both well if they go.

On the squad size, on our forum it has been mentioned of a squad size of 22 senior outfield players. Keepers excluded from counting to the 22 as u21s as well.

Do you think you will be interested in getting Lee in next season?

I agree with steveowanderer that he is a steady player but that was in lge2. He may be ok in lge 1 but why give him a 2 year contract when his contract for this season was activated. We go down or stay in lge 1 he may get games. We get promoted we have a player next season who will be under contract who simply wont play.
Yes Evatt can coach him to be better positional wise etc and certainly needs to improve in the final third of the pitch. One thing Evatt cannot do his make him quicker. Kioso was streets ahead of him but cannot get a game for Luton.

Kioso mainly played in a 3/5 at the back and was good physically but he wasn’t great defensively. I’d take Jones over Kioso in a back 4.

You think Gethin Jones is slow? He’s up and down the line all game. Kioso is quick but if we get Declan John we don’t want 2 gung ho full backs in a back 4. Who’s to say Jones won’t go up a level again next season? He improved all the way through the season. I do agree he needs to improve in the final third...but he’s earned his shot. He’s 25 years old and pretty much only played 1-2 full seasons of first team football. He’s nowhere near his peak.

Isgrove has signed a new 2 year deal as well. Very happy with that. Good player especially for the away days as he works so hard.

9 out of 11 from the team that started on the last day against Crawley signed up for next season
Only Gilks and John to sign.........Gilks is the keeper coach so thats a given. John will be mulling over a few offers i imagine. Sensible signings which i think can get top half.
Think we will make about 6 other signings........will they be better than what we have..........play offs automatic
Young squad fillers with potential we will consolidate next season.

Think next season may be open.....Shef Wed will struggle as i suspect Portsmouth will having to completly re build.

We have been there and it dont work

You had a rebuild in Jan and that didn't work out too bad.

Didn't Evatt basically sign a whole new squad last summer?

Yes we rebuilt last summer and no it did not go well............The signings in January improved what we already had
We had a complete new squad the season previously under Hill in lge 1. That was a disaster

Wigan the same last season.......Disaster for them stayed up because they like Bolton improved in the January.

Portsmouth and Shef Wed may come good but it wont be until at least January

Only because we attracted players from the leagues above who simply were better than lge 2 players.
Portsmouth and Shef Wed are cost cutting and wont get better players than they are releasing.
Players like Adam Reach would walk into any lge1 team yet Wednesday are getting shut.

So the January signings improved what was already there. A successful rebuild starting from the summer then considering you got promoted.

yes agreed but the players we bought in January would be on better wages than the summer signings.....Doyle Sarcevic excepted............Shef Wed and Portsmouth are cost cutting

It depends on how good the recruitment team as well. Cutting a budget doesn't always mean things will get worse. It is more what is done with the budget as Pompey will still have a decent budget and it isn't Jackett spending the money but the Cowleys. After all Accrington will spend far less generally yet they have consistently done well.

As for Sheff Wed, who knows as it will all depend if they get their finances sorted. Have they paid their unpaid wages yet or did they take out a FL loan to pay them?

Accrington have a settled squad and can pick one or two signings each season to basically stagnate.
Looks like Pompeys budget will not be decent.......Think they have spent that on getting shot of Jackett and bringing in Cowleys and there team.... Maybe better to get a pompey fan view

Shef Wed i think are near to where we was three seasons back and they will slide before they regroup and return.

We cut our budget by 40% this season.

You're dreaming if you think the squad that got you out of L2 will get you top half.

I don't think Wednesday will do well either, although if they keep Barry Bannan he'll be the best player in the league by a distance.

I'd be surprised if they keep Windass & Paterson. Decent Championship players.

Rotherham will be up there, as per.

And why is that please educate me........I dont see a stand out team next season
Everyone is cutting there squads
I have watched both a promotion and relegation squad in lge 1 in the last five years......so i am not as green as you think

Agree with Rotherham i can see them going straight back up....Wycombe and Ipswich will be there or there abouts

You scraped out of a very mediocre L2 in 3rd place with 79 points. Yes, you finished strong after a poor start but there's a real gulf in class.

I have not missed you during your year away. Fingers crossed we get promoted on Sunday and I can escape to the Championship forum. Never seen a poster as clueless as you. If I didn't know better I'd think you were on a wind up.

Portsmouth will be strong, as will either us or Blackpool. Ipswich should be much better under Cook. Rotherham are always a yo-yo side so will challenge. Wednesday, who knows but I'd expect they will do OK. Wycombe would've probably stayed up if there had been another round of games so they are carrying good form into next season. Oxford and Sunderland will also challenge. It's going to be competitive.

If I were a Pompey fan I think there would be plenty of reasons to be positive, even with a reduced budget (if that is the case?).

But then that doesn’t really support WUMmy behaviour.

Have you chosen them as your new rivals this season, moving on from Barrow? Barrow will be bereft.

What exactly are you basing Pompey's budget not being decent on? The Cowley's won't be on buttons and they wouldn't have stayed for a relegation or hanging on in L1 budget. Pompey's budget will still be competitive.

Bannan signed a new 2 year deal at the back end of the season which he says has no relegation clause. Windass is a Championship player, Paterson was disappointing though. You can tell he’s a defender converted to a striker although it’s harsh to judge proper given the absolute shitshow of a season we’ve just had.

I think we’ll be fine personally. A lot of wages have been freed up from players released like Lees, Reach, Westwood and Rhodes so it just depends on who we recruit but if you have a look down our squad list, there’s still a few names you’d expect to do very well at this level, some who already have previously.

Well for what its worth i dont think you have a clue....The team that finished the season first played on 30th Jan
with us in 18th position. Last 20 league games we won 16 drew 2 lost 2 with 12 clean sheets.
Not taking anything away from Cheltenham but the best team promoted was not the best team on the last day of the season
We have the team more or less sewn up for next season.............Agreed it wont be good enough for back to back promotions but we have now eight weeks to improve the squad with better than what we have got key players and one or two loan signings.
Seems most teams in this league rely on loan signings

Take them away how good are Blackpool and Lincoln
Average at best

You just remind me a bit of us when we went down here, in terms of major cost cutting required but you may be right. I think having good loans is vital to getting out of this division.

The best team won the league as it is played over 46 games not just the last 20.

Also again what are you basing Pompey not having a decent budget on?
