Some great points in here. I think it's an absolute disgrace personally. Lets say Man City sack Pellegrini, who are they going to interview? Guardiola, Simeone, Ancelotti and......... Paul Ince? Chris Powell? Load of bollocks.

Of course, they should interview Paul Ince, I mean, look at his pedigree, a league 2 title AND a JPT on his CV. :ffs:

I think the people who get upset about the Rooney Rule are often those who like to believe racism doesn't exist in sport and that the status quo shouldn't be challenged. A bit sad, but it shows the challenges that still remain in society.

Or they think it won't work.

If racism is so institutionalised in British football, surely black players would also be not given chances? The argument is that black managers are not given a chance regardless of their talent, yet they clearly isn't the case with players which it should be if Chairmen and Owners are racists.

Manager and footballer are different roles requiring different talents. You're taking a very simplistic view of it.

Exactly.

So the argument about the black players to managers ratio is void?

Maybe. But surely the Rooney Rule is taking a very simplistic view of chairmen?

All these racists are suddenly going to stop being racist if they interview someone? And I think what EG said is right on the money. Look at the rough age of managers. When for example, Neal Ardley was playing, the number of black players was far lower.

There are some better points put across in here now than when I first started reading, I was aware of the difference in player diversity between now and the average day of your Joe manger when I made my comment, however for me that seemed to end around the 90s. We have managers in the leagues that are 30-40 so there should in theory be at least a parity between the number of coaches from different backgrounds at there surely? Chris Powell and Paul Ince being the only two black managers anyone seems to be able to name is a tad alarming surely? There are loads of lads from that era that had the pedigree that you would expect of a coach.

Worth considering though, is that you can get grants and busaries for level 2 football coaching if your BME due to an under representation at that level, although people from that level rarely filter into pro jobs, that would surely be worth looking at as they currently haven't got that right. Also being a qualified level 2 football coach could potentially earn me about 18k a year from the looks of your average job, being an NQT earns you just shy of 23k, I mention that as both hold and need similar qualities (of sorts) football is not a good career move and is not a professional industry for coaching, regardless of your ethnicity.

That is still only a fraction though, I didn't include Connor as he was only interim. I can only add Kiwomya to that list. I think there seems to be some kind of barrier (and I don't mean a racist one) that is stopping candidates from qualifying in the first place, Interesting to see Clive Wilson is now a teacher.

I wonder if Les Ferdinand will be looking for a manager job soon, seems to have been leading towards that.
