Blackpool lost the game and thus weren't deducted any points.
Every other example I can find of this offence where the team in question won, 3 points were deducted. Will be interesting to see what the FA do.

It has to be a points deduction, the precedent is there. From what I can see the ineligible player has to have had a material effect on the outcome. He was voted man of the match but, more importantly, he played the entire 90 mins.

Tomorrow's game is potentially massive for both sides now. Win for either side, and Rotherham fail to beat Fulham, and they're only one or two points clear of the relegation zone. We have a game in hand on them too, albeit with a tougher run in.

I agree, the punishment for ineligible players tends to depend on the outcome. Fine if you lost, points deduction/ kicked out of the Cup if you won. Hartlepool did the same thing against Brighton in 2010 I believe and were deducted 3 points in League One, after they beat Brighton 2-0 at Victoria Park.

Mr Gus Poyet then commented that his team should've been awarded the 3 points!

This has now happened twice to Brighton in 2 different divisions!

Just the win would result in the deduction normally, so if he's been such a big player for them then...
