Oh wow, didn't expect that.

Whilst pretty happy Mills has gone, we are in our worst position ever since we've been down here (squad wise) and whoever comes in would need to perform miracles to get this team competing next season.

Yep, the squad is dire so I don't expect much different to what we've been seeing. Rest of this season will just be a muddle through job and see whether we can finish top half or not. Big job on for whoever gets it full time as they'll need a whole new squad for next season.

I'm losing track of all these managerial departures, how many is that now in the National League since the season started?

Big benefit is that most are out of contract end of this season.

Get Kevin Wilkin in for pre-season to sort out the transfers and players coming in, sack him, then get someone else in for the season

Cannot believe bet victor are still in business . Victor chandler was at the centre of a bbc expose a few years ago he was giving racehorse trainers lose free betting accounts in return for ' privilidged' information. Graham bradley nearly went to prison over it, its only the fact that he broke down and gave a full and frank confession in court that saved him.

When he is collared on the racetrack by a beeb journo bradley is rescued by willie carson it is cringeworthy and shows bookmaking for the corrupt business it is.

Apologies to the author of this thread for hyjacking it and going totally off topic , i just felt like a rant .

Don't worry about Askey, we won't be going after anyone who currently has a job, we can't afford compensation again. I see a scenario where Keates will be put in charge until the New Year and we will see how he does. It's hardly a fair crack of the whip I'll add, seeing as this squad is the worst we've ever had.

If Gary Mills comes back to York, my self enforced exile will be continuing. I don't want him anywhere near the club, it's a backwards move. He's done very little since he got us up, if anything he has regressed. We need a fresh start, new man, new ideas, not going back to Mills because of nostalgia.

With all these sackings it is inevitable that Pennock will get another job, eventually...he will get you to the play-offs but the football will render you comatose!

Not quite so. What he did in his 1st season at gateshead may not seen so much for some but getting a team to wembley who nearly got relegated previous season using virtually same squad is some achivement. Also nearly best oxford in fa cup that season and some big crowds and good atmosphere at the international stadium. There was a big round of applause when he returnes last season

Playing budget has been confirmed tonight as being same as start of last season and now is even slightly in excess of, highlighting the incredible mismanagement by Mills. We literally went from Dom Vose to Paul Rutherford in terms of quality. I don't recall a manager harming us financially as much as this guy. We paid to get him from Gateshead, gave him free rein, exceeded his agreed budget and now we've had to pay him off as well. And he's left us with a squad that is virtually worthless as only Curtis Tilt is a likely saleable asset in January, the rest will probably all leave on frees in the summer.

Wrexham fans constantly going on about their lack of money - no one says anything.

Mills did same in his second season at gateshead, wasted money after increased budget on players that turned out to be duds. Mind we did get half a million for marchs maddison, a player he brought on

Mickey Mellon has brought Mike Jackson in as his assistant. Somewhat expected, but another step in the right direction.

It's only human nature that he brings his assistant with him.

With all due respect though, you're not a team with a poor budget or potential, he's good at coming in and riding a wave of enthusiasm because he brings a bugger everyone else attitude that gets fans on side, he usually starts to regress after a season or so or success.

I appreciate everything he did, I just think hiring him on nostalgia when he hasn't really gone on to be a roaring success is wrong, we need a fresh start, not a small initial boost which could easily just ruin the good memories.

Yeah he kind of regressed near end of his time with gateshead but often wondered what would have happened had he stayed the following season

Good decision getting rid of Mills, he's run out of ideas but deserves the boot for signing Michael Bakare if nothing else.

Strange timing though. I'm not sure who I'd want as manager. Id like to see Carl Darlington return to the coaching staff though

I liked Mills (no one else had taken us to Wembley), but he took that Wembley squad and instead of just adding one or two quality additions, he ripped the heart out of it and added a load of dross like Michael Rankine.

Transfers were certainly not his friend. At the start of last season when he was signing those players (Belford, Fowler etc etc) and Wrexham fans were walking themselves silly, it all looked very familiar to the rubbish he signed for us the pre-season before and turned out that way. It does leave me scratching my head as to how he managed to put together such a good squad for York.

Nobody was convinced about the signing of Cameron Belford and pretty much everybody thought that bringing Fowler back was a gamble. And his new signings and player retention has been shitter this preseason compared to his first.

The only thing Wrexham fans were unanimously wanking themselves silly over was the football we enjoyed for those first few home matches of the 2015/2016 season. I mean, fans weren't turning up those numbers for the hot dogs. It was superb to watch.

Mills is the ultimate short termist. If he comes back it'll be this huge initial boost, it'd galvanise the club and the supporters and it'd be a big wave of enthusiasm.... but the wave would stop eventually. I want a proper long term appointment, that should be the remit, we know how Mills operates.

It's no surprise he initially excited Wrexham and Gateshead fans too, he plays attractive football, he gets the spirits up... but it peters out eventually, his stubbornness to adapt and have a plan B, his inability to build on good squads etc.
