About time it was started, Wimbledon at home, both teams have had a big overhaul in players and management. We are still short but have a behind closed doors game against Watford tomorrow so hopefully we might have some new signings in time for Saturday. Wimbledon have lost both their 2 attacking threats over the summer so have they been able to replace them? I’m going for a draw simply because neither side can say it has a settled first 11.

The game against Bolton is almost secondary. With no coaching staff at all in place at the moment, I just want to know who will be in the dugout...

Edit: Dean Lewington has no interest in management but is stepping up to take over in the interim. What a guy

Our first 11 is looking good for Fleetwood away. However, we are a couple of injuries away from a crisis at the moment. Still need to get some bodies in before the weekend and it looks like we're close to a couple more loan moves before then.

The massive Oxbridge derby. You can guarantee there'll be unsavoury scenes - stolen college scarves, incendiary Latin graffiti and groups of uncouth chaps swinging oars in a reckless fashion.

No idea what to expect on the pitch, just hope we look competitive against an Oxford side I believe will be a top half team.

Every pundit seems to have us down to finish 23rd or 24th so I'm intrigued to see the step up in class. I doubt we'll dominate possession but we'll press hard and when we nick the ball we'll try and get it to Wessi quickly so he can carve their defence up.

It'll be great to be back for a competitive game with an atmosphere - I can't wait.

Charlton away live on Sky. Could well be the toughest fixture of the season yet!

I think our starting XI is as good as any in this league but depth is poor and we might struggle if we have a few missing at any one time. So having said that I’ll go for a narrow Owls win.

We have certainly added more strength in depth this last couple of weeks after a slow start re new signings. Maybe at least a couple more signings to come in so hopefully our starting XI will be okay. All depends if the injuries have since cleared up as lots of players have hardly featured in pre season.

I do however like this prediction -

Cheltenham at home. Always good games vs Cheltenham. They seemed to have gone alittle more route one since we last played which probably benefits them in this game.

Were notoriously bad on the opening day, something daft like 4 wins in about 25 years. We started last season somewhat slow albeit we had a very tough set of fixtures. I will go for a score draw to start though.

Crewe 1-1 Cheltenham (Mandron, Williams) 4,750 (500 Cheltenham) hopefully the away fan sales pick up, heard they had only sold around 50 yesterday.

Would rather not have started away at a Steve Evans side!

It's anyone's guess who'll be available because it's been a mish mash of a pre-season in terms of minutes into players. The one who's got the most minutes is transfer listed and most of our best players have struggled for minutes although I suspect we took the first part of pre-season as a bit of extra rest for them after a late finish due to the PO's.

Expecting a very difficult game against Oxford, think we’ll change our plans for this much like huddsmoose said, we’ll sit back and try and soak up the pressure which I personally don’t think we’ll be able to do, hope I’m wrong but I’m expecting a defeat.

0-2

Burton Albion at home for us.

I’m reasonably confident going into the new season, still need another 3/4 more bodies but overall I’m very happy with our summer business and what Steve Cotterill’s building. No chance will we be struggling, should be pushing top half and with a few more signings for squad depth then even potentially threaten the play offs.

I expect us to lineup like this:-
GK) Marosi

RWB) Bennett
CB) Pennington
CB) Pierre
CB) Leahy
LWB) Nurse

CM) Norburn
CM) Vela
CM) Ogbeta

ST) Bowman
ST) Udoh

Prediction:-
Salop 2-0 Burton (Udoh, Ogbeta)

Attendance:-
5,300 (400 Brewers) - Think we’ll see smaller attendances across the leagues on opening day as there’s bound to still be some people sceptical about returning.

We last played in the cup last season and not much has changed since then.

If other fans want to claim we're long ball then it doesn't bother me, but don't be blinded by the fact that we got a lot of goals from long throws. We actually play nice football, with our downside being the inability to finish last season.

We're also shite on the opening day, with our last win coming in 2014 (the year we were relegated out of the league) and I don't think we won many more in the decade or so before then.

As for Saturday, we'll be starting with pretty much the same team that ended last season (save for any late signings this week) and coming off the back of a really good pre-season (1 defeat in 7). I think we'll look to keep it tight and agree a score-draw is the likely outcome.

Looking forward to my 3rd visit to Gresty Road, first since about 2007 or so, and it will be my son's first away game. What's it like picking up tickets from the ticket office at the ground?

In a way I'm glad our first match is against one of the more fancied teams so even if we are an utter shambles it's not really too much lost. If we actually get a result it will be a huge boost. We shall see but honestly can't see past a Bolton win.

If we finish 10th I will be ecstatic because as things stand we will be closer to the bottom 5 than the top half

Surprised we've only played Gillingham 8 times?

EDIT: Been on the 11v11 site.

We've played them 50 times going back to the 60s

We've won 17 drawn 12 and lost 21.

To be honest our pre season has been poor.We definitely need to bring in another forward.Piggott has been replaced with Presley,on loan from Brentford. He scored 20 goals for there B team last season. No guarantee that he'll do that for us .We have a young squad .There are some decent player's,notably Luke McCormick signed from Chelsea,on loan at Bristol rovers last season.I just wonder if our squad is lacking a bit of experience. We will see!! I'd happily take a point on Saturday.

The clip of them predictions though. He knows fuck all about Sunderland. And no way will pompey be 15th. Both in top 6-8, I agree with The top 3 being definitely in the top 6 and i genuinely fancy ipswich for autos but the writer has literally no idea in my opinion but thats his opinion i suppose. We still need full backs and a few more bodies and with Wigan at home on saturday you can put your house on Wyke or Power scoring for them so i will go with our usual scoreline in this league of 1-1.

What are your expectations for this year? I don’t think 11th is too far wrong given how the squads stand at the minute but of course you’ll know more than me. If you get Pritchard firing
he’s too good for this division but he’s been shite for about 5 years so it’s a big if.

Is there no sign of anyone being brought in to replace Wyke’s 30 goals?

We have Ross Stewart who will score but probably not 30, Wyke had a freak season and 95% of his goals were on a plate, great that he scored them but the two previous seasons he scored about 7 or 8 in total over that two season period. He isn’t a good hold up striker so im not too bothered by him leaving and i genuinely believe that with Embleton, O’Nien and Evans, Pritchard,McGeady & Gooch as our midfielders/forward players supporting Stewart we will be up that top 6. Personally think grigg will go and we need someone else up top as back up to Stewart or to play alongside him depending on formation but i do believe by end of August our full back issues and squad depth will be rectified. It’s gonna be a hard league one season this year so if we are 11th by the end then that guys report was spot on haha.

Can’t say I’ve seen too much of Stewart, only in the play offs last season but I do agree with you that midfield sounds good, Corry Evans has always played well against us but I think he’s had a few injury problems hasn’t he? I like Luke O’Nien too.

We’ve been predicted bottom half finishes in a couple of articles I’ve seen but it’s still too early to call in my opinion, as you said there’s still til the end of August left, I’m expecting more movement now released players have received their severance pay and can get fixed up with another club without losing any money.

I listened to the not the top 20 podcast predictions and they had you tenth i believe, you’ve signed some alright players for this level but we done that when first relegated and we still had players from prem days and we still couldn’t get autos so it aint easy.
