We are at home to Salford. Some of our fans are already getting on the new manager's back (cheap appointment blah blah) after a poor set of pre-season results (!) as well as a dreadful performance at Harrogate. Given the new manager and the recruitment of 13 players it was always going to be difficult to hit the ground running this season and I think August might require a bit of patience from fans.

Salford look a solid outfit. I suspect they might be heading north with 3 points on Saturday, sadly.
What is your first game of the season record like? 13 new players will definitely take time to gel. A number of seasons ago, we were in what is now the championship. After 10 games we were 2nd bottom. At the end of the season, we finished 2nd to Sunderland.

I don't know the actual record but it was one of the best in recent times (we were in one of those twitter things that clubs like to throw about like confetti) but that has taken a knock after defeat last weekend. If you mean our first home game of the season record, then I have no idea but our home form is very patchy and Salford are definitely not the team you want to come up against when trying to get points on the board.

I definitely won't be panicking until about November time I reckon. Even last season Bristol Rovers and Mansfield made awful starts to the season but 1 ended up going up automatically and the other got to Wembley for the play-offs. That's some rise from the ashes for you in that Championship season, were the fans on the manager's back or did he get given time?

You have to be of a certain age AS.

Dallas was actually just before my time, but I was aware of it's presence. But yes, there are probably people on here that aren't older than youtube so my reference will have gone way over their heads!

A lot of the fans were twitchy but like all clubs we have some fans who are calmer than others. The thing was, under that manager(Paul Jewel- a friend of yours) along with Ipswich, we were probably the most attractive footballing side in the division. How dreams are shattered. We mirror your fate, dodgy owners, badly run and the consequences.

Wow, grandmother porn's very own Paul Jewell! Yeah him and Lee Power seem to be thick as thieves!

I think it’s the context of those who have left us which is worrying. We were offering Payne more than Charlton did but he chose to leave. I was no great fan of Garner but it was still surprising to see him leave. I get Charlton are a league above but I’d like to think the chances of us getting promoted from L2 are far greater than Charlton in L1.

Chorley also left and has yet to surface somewhere else which is strange.

According to Mellon today, the same players that were out on Saturday will still be out for this coming game, meaning Jameson will likely start. Which subsequently means a comfortable Mansfield win.

Is it the shoulder thing? Surely Luton are insistent on him getting his surgery at some point this season anyway?

It popped back out on Saturday when it was previously thought he’d escaped needing an op. Luton have apparently left it in our hands, he’s with a specialist but it sounds like inevitable

No new injury problems on our front, along with the signing of Tom Knowles. I presume we’ll start with the same 11 that beat Hartlepool.

This 5 sub rule is really helping us with the depth we seem to have.

Disappointing that we have only been given 600 tickets, something to do with the Newport away end not being ready. Hopefully it’s sorted and they make it POTD.

According to the club the away end will be ready for saturday! so you will be given your full allotment of tickets, can't see the club allowing POTD so much more likely you buy online and collect them at the gate.

It's my birthday on Saturday so we'd better win.

Rochdale is a proper welcome back to the 4th tier, rather than last week playing a side who came down with us. I don't think the squad will be massively different to last week to be fair, although hopefully Lewis Walker's registration has now come through and O'Keefe is good for a place on the bench after injury.

Personally I'd like a bit of a change of shape, I don't think we need 2 sitting midfielders in this league against most teams to be fair so I'd play just Williams in that role with a bit more creativity ahead of him.

Morris
Wright - Ehmer - Baggott - Law
Williams
Green - Lee - Reeves - Kashket
Mandron
Turner, Alexander, Tutonda, O'Keefe, Jefferies, Walker, MacDonald

We're normally alright at home to Dale, so hopefully that continues with a 3-1 win.
I agree with that line up, looks pretty strong to me too (but then I thought that before we kicked off at AFCW last weekend). Surprised we haven’t brought at least another loan player in this week though, as we couldn’t change things last Saturday when we needed to.

Many happy returns for tomorrow btw, hope Gills give you a 3 point birthday bonus.

Colchester away.

We had a great start to the season last week, getting 3 points against Crawley was fully deserved and it continues the good home form under Simpson.

However our away form hasn't been very good at all even since Simpson returned, picking up only 1 point from our last 5 away games.
Hopefully the new additions will improve that side of things, but until I see any evidence to back that hope up, I simply can't be expecting us to pick anything up. I know Colchester are widely expected to struggle, but it sounds like they gave a good performance at Northampton last week and they still boast quality that we can only dream of in the likes of Sears and Judge. Taking all that into account, sadly I can't see anything other than a Colchester win.

Colchester United 2-1 Carlisle United

Bad feeling about tomorrow! Scott Lindsay will already be rowing against the tide if we get done by Salford I think. On my way back from Cornwall so unlikely I will make it. Probably take a draw and some pleasing performances to get us going a bit personally.

God knows how todays going to go, hoping for a response from the last shambles, or it will be Wimbledons easiest win of the season, as it was Walsalls last week.

It better be miles apart from last game or I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a long season.

Yeah I'm hoping for an early Pools goal just to settle some nerves, we all know how the crowd turn nasty when things aren't going our way, I dread to think what might happen if we concede first.

Sounds like we’re only fetching 600 or so to Grimsby today
