But two of those three seasons was when the league was 42 games in length, Henry never had that advantage.

I think Henry and Shearer were both fantastic strikers, but the former shades it for me.

Ha, the chances.

Shearer played three seasons in a PL with 22 teams, meaning he had an additional 12 games on others when taking season tallies into consideration.
dont let facts get in the way, Sky Sports News said Shearer was the best so he must be.

Alan Shearer league goal record = 7 goals per season average
Andy Cole league goal record = 11 goals per season average

some serious armchairs in here

I've already warned you not to post maths without getting your mates to check your numbers. Actual figures:-

Alan Shearer average league goals per season -- 14.89
Andy Cole average league goals per season -- 12.1

And some of Cole's weren't in the top flight.

4 games per season, but yeah, I take your point.

I can also understand people's reasoning for choosing Henry over Shearer.

Anyone using Cole is just retarded, though.

Nobody is using Cole, although he was a great striker.

I said no such thing. You bore me. My job is done, namely to show you're full of shit and know pretty much nothing (especially about numbers). However, I could have sat back, ignored you and the result would have been the same it would appear.

All educated football fans like myself would give a top 6 of something like this, certain players have not been considered because they haven't done it at the top level.

1 Henry
2 Drogba
3 Rooney
4 Ruud V Nistleroy
5 Bergkamp
6. Andy Cole / Zola

Educated fans don't get their goalscoring sums wrong numerous times in the same thread, much to other people's amusement.

Crikey – I’ve ventured into a Premier League thread on 1FF for the first time, and within two posts I can tell you’re the forum’s resident helmet.
He's the forum's resident troll.

Wayne Rooney league goal record = 12 per season average
Andy Cole league goal record = 11 goals per season average
Alan Shearer league goal record = 7 goals per season average

Personally i don't think we can properly compare them until both their careers have ended. Rooney may have the better record now, but I doubt he'll have it once he has retired.

Nah, you're kidding yourself. He's only scored 1 more than Lineker yet has taken 26 more games to get there. I'd have both him and Shearer over Rooney. Lineker could also produce the goods in the major tournaments.

A bit of a shit comparison really seeing as they're two completely different types of player. It's like comparing Tony Adams and Rio Ferdinand.

Shearer was an outstanding striker who under-achieved through his loyalty. Rooney is a very good player, flirting with outstanding here and there, that has accomplished everything in the game domestically at club level. Although he can be a right twat nobody can ever argue against his appetite for the game, or his goal-scoring record for someone who has played in just about every position other than defense and keeper.

tell me about it, awful international record and never cut it at a top side or in Europe against the best..........good goalscorer against average clubs.....but nowhere near Englands best ever striker Rooney.

Well Wayne you did it son :ds:

Top of the pile probably forever.............the sad thing is some people rate a one trick pony who doesn't even make the top six better than him :fing:

Wayne Rooney 50
Bobby Charlton 49
Gary Lineker 48
Jimmy Greaves 44
Michael Owen 40
Tom Finney 30
Nat Lofthouse 30
It's also sad that people think the best England striker is the player that has scored the most goals by facing minuscule teams every year (San Marino, Moldova, etc etc.)

Sherear has 30 goals, the same as Tom Finney... so you are saying that Tom Finney has a bad international record and is much worse then Rooney. And don't forget Shearer is joint 5th in the list of goals for England!

there were however minnows in every era of football it's not just recently 20 of Charlton's for example came against the weak home nations and luxembourg. I'm not saying there is anything bad but it's utter stupidity to only complain about the easier games Rooney scored in when strikers throughout the history of football have scored against weaker nations. Lineker scored 24 in friendlies including 4 against Malaysia in 1 match. Tom finney who you mention scored nearly all of his goals in the Home nations championship which England won 70% of the time during his international career and almost 1/3 of his goals came against N Ireland or Wales (before they had the pass it to Gareth Strategy;) ).

Minnows in football are nothing new.

Just to clarify nobody thinks Rooney is the best ever England striker..............He is the best as the statistics show !
