So who do you think have been the best signings of the season?

Personally I think Fabregas signing for Chelsea was the big one for them which has made the difference from them being top 4 certainties to Champions elect. Then again signing a player for £30m or so should be making that kind of difference.

Lower down the table I think Leicester and West Brom made two excellent free transfer signings in Cambiasso & Lescott respectively. I don't get to see as many live games on TV as I'd like but whenever I've seen these two players on MOTD they seem to have stood out. I've always been a big Lescott fan since he signed for Everton and I'm really surprised no one higher up the league than West Brom went for him after his release from City.

I'm sure there have been many many more, feel free to add any others

The combination of Costa and Fabregas took Chelsea to a new level for sure. Alderweireld for me is the genius signing of the season.... signed on loan from Atletico after selling Lovren for 25m is a great bit of biz.

Sakho as well was banging in the goals for cheap, and Alex Song was a good loan signing for West Ham.

There were a fair few good bargains to be had actually. David Ospina for 3.5M is a bargain, he's been nearly perfect, has the highest win ratio of any GK over 10 games, has a 50% clean sheet ratio, and basically has been our best GK for a long time ..classic Wenger bargain.

Bojan as well looked like a great bargain until his injury.

Not sure if it counts, but Harry Kane signing a new contract. Scuffed rumours about him going to one of the giants, and now even if he does, they'll make tons of money out of him.

Does Harry Kane count as a new signing? No.

I would have said either Costa, Fabregas or Alexis. All three made a hug impact to their respective clubs but only showed sizzling form in the first half of the season. As did Pelle and Ulloa.

I would have to say though the player to give the biggest account of himself, and will go on to be more decisive in the season to come is Alexis. Costa seems to pick up numerous hamstring issues, and Cesc blows cold half way through every season.

Has to be Fabregas. He has played a huge role for Chelsea in winning (inevitable) the title. I still find it funny how Arsenal fans said they didn't need fabregas because they had Ramsey.

Mangala

42 million for a defender who has no defensive attributes except being strong and quick. He's not even particularly young either.

Özil.

Also if we bought Fabregas, we wouldn't have got Sanchez.

If you are referring to the emotion you felt upon being proved wrong I believe the word you are looking for is frustrating, annoying or perhaps embarrassing .

Nothing boring about slating what has been abysmal purchase.

Think Lovren fully warrants a mention in the worst signings

Manchester City[edit]
On 11 August 2014, Mangala signed for English club Manchester City on a five-year contract, [21] for a reported £31.8 million transfer fee.[22][23] He reunited with his former partner in Porto's defence, Fernando, who had joined City earlier in the summer.

Mangala made his debut in City's fifth match of the Premier League season, a 1–1 home draw against Chelsea on 21 September. Lining up alongside captain Vincent Kompany, his performance was described by BBC Sport as "colossal".[24]Six days later, an own goal and concession of a penalty by Mangala caused City to lose a 2–0 lead against Hull, although they eventually triumphed 4–2. Despite media criticism, manager Manuel Pellegrini said "we continue to trust him because he is a very good player who had very bad luck".[25]

On 30 November, Mangala was sent off for two yellow cards in City's 3–0 win away to Southampton.[26]

boring. as in i'm not arsed about how much he cost. he was vital in us securing a point against Chelsea in September on his debut. therefore he's offered more to his new team this season than Cuadrado has.

Making stuff up again I see. Brilliant.

Back on topic, it's Liverpool legend Alexis Sanchez. Fabregas has been a game changer for Chelsea but his form and contribution has taken a dip in recent months. Sanchez went through a dip in form too, but it didn't last as long and he still contributed with assists and his tireless workrate. 22 goals and 11 assists speaks for itself. Only Aguero has contributed to more goals in the PL this season.

The thread opened with just signing. I thought I was being clever.

Sanchez or Fabregas then. Not in terms of value for money, but they've been the best players new into the league.

If that's a draw, then you should pick Sanchez, first time in the league whereas Cesc grew up here.

Still really disappointed by Chelsea's second half of the season. Fabregas has been awful for a while and Costa is yet to reach 20 goals in the league. Both showed promise in the early stages of the season but they just went off the boil after Christmas.
I would say Sanchez. He's been alright.

Universitario, Napoli
I feel bad for Cuadrado, he's class for Colombia and a few bad appearances for Chelsea makes him a terrible player.

He wasn't great for Fiorentina this season so it wasn't the best signing in the end. However, Chelsea fans seems to give players 2 games then make a judgement.

That said, I doubt Cuadrado will make much of an impact on Chelsea.

He needs time but it's hard not to be disappointed seeing De Bruyne and Schurrle leave and seeing Salah and Cuadrado come in.

Alderweireld would get my vote if it had been permanent. So it's between Cesc, Costa, Alexis, and Gyfli for me. Their have been dips in form for all, but relative to the price I think it has to be Gylfi. A late run by any of the previous three could certainly sway my thinking.

Maybe Ulloa or Cambiasso if Leicester stay up.

Tim Sherwood was quite the signing, too.

Tireless work rate? You could say the same about all Burnley players. I thought the winner Fabregas scored recently against QPR was pretty important for a dip in form guy.

Sanchez works his ass off and scores goals + assists. Can you say the same about the Burnley players? Do you see what i'm getting at ?

And Fabregas has regressed after Christmas, as he always does, one goal in one game against QPR doesn't really change that fact.
