It's pretty shite that they keep giving it to the clubs that really don't need it. 250k would probably net us a signing or two but didn't Derby just spend a shit ton of money on Tom Ince? Whoever is organising this needs to really take a look at who enters and how they hand out the cash.

Anyone remember the Coca Cola transfer fund thing, which encouraged us all to guzzle bottles of Coke like it was going out of fashion, and then enter codes off the label into the website to add to your club's pile?

Those were the days.

Deary me. That's poor.

Random or not, shitty message being sent out as Derby are probably the most irresponsible side in the league now aside from QPR.

Wanted it to go to Carlisle or Newport.

I know it was, that's why I said they should look at who they allow to enter.
It's a fan thing, I'm not sure it would really work to disallow certain clubs' fans from entering. But yeah, the result is ridiculous.

I agree with the above statement, it could go to much better use than on Derby, who have already spent shit loads this summer. Funny how Forest got it the year before too.

So the 2 'random' winners so far have been Forest and Derby, taking bets on QPR being the next winners

What a mardy bunch of twats! Derby should not be allowed to be entered because they have spent a few bob this year!
Forget the last few seasons where we have been ran really well and hardly spent anything compared to a few other clubs even though we get the biggest crowds in the league and have got some lucrative sponsorship deals along with some really wealthy backers.
If another club had won it and the individual fan that entered and also won a few bob was a wealthy bloke, would you be bitching about how he shouldn't be allowed to win?

You've spent well beyond your means in terms of money you bring in. Wealthy owners or not.

If my hunch that you will underperform under Clement this season materialises things will be interesting for your lot next season.

250k would've been nice for us, shame we didn't win it.

Fuck off Derby, you do NOT deserve it.
Congrats Derby.

Strange that, because at a forum this week with some of Derby's board and local business men the chairman made this statement. " We won't break FFP because it isn't worth the risk if the rules change and for instance a points penalty is imposed. But the rules in terms of losses have been relaxed".

A football chairman said it?

It must be true then.

£250,000 at this level doesn't mean too much, doesn't even get you an average Championship wage for a season.

Surely it would be much worse if say a league two team got it, would be a massive advantage over some of the teams around them. Easily a 2-3 year deal for a decent league two player paid for straight up.

Not being funny, we're not being irresponsible with our cash at all. One summer of spending, of which we haven't done for years, and suddenly we're massively irresponsible with our cash? Amazing really.

However, the result is stupid, should have easily gone to a L1/2 side, 250k hardly buys you a agent fee around here and we didn't need it anyway, much like any other championship club. It should really just be open to League one and two only, because it's otherwise ruining them a chance to get some players in.

Are you going to invest as heavily next summer when it doesn't work out this season? :err:

Overspending and it's not sustainable unless you go up this season.

Of course it's a gamble, it's the same if any other club do it isn't it?

If we don't go up, fair enough, but there is absolutely no evidence against us that we have overspent. We pretty much have the largest income in the league without parachute payments, doesn't take a genius to work that out to be fair and while it could be a struggle if we don't go up then we're much better prepared than the huge majority of teams in this division. No debt etc...

Plus, we can still easily sell some players to balance out if need be, we need to get rid of some of our defenders for starters, eww.

So it's a short-term risk. Football is a business like any other and any decent corporation doesn't focus on either A) short term or B) unnecessary risk. Hence me saying it's irresponsible and not the way a club should be run.

Not that it really matters as FFP won't touch you.

It's not that I disagree with you, I entirely see your point and it is a risk. However, I'm not going to say it's irresponsible until the summer transfer window is done. As said, we've been run well enough recently to be able to spend some cash and if the transfer window ends without us selling anyone up, then it will be irresponsible then. We can't really say anything else for now though, plenty of time for things for change.

We're within FFP. What's the problem?
We have 23k ST holders, average 29k gates, a sponsored stadium, lots of income from other sponsors and hospitality/corporate.
We are not overspending.
We released 8/9 players at the end of last season.
This summer we have signed 6 of which four are free transfers. The two we have paid fees for will probably be structured so we pay in instalments.
Please don't make us the club everyone loves to hate. We're pretty much an a beacon of how a club should be run at this level. This summer we've spent a little more and we are public enemy number one for some reason.

Joke.

Should be L1 and L2 clubs only. Also should be more money and one in each league (you can include the Championship then). It's not like Sky don't have the money and the sponsor the Football League.

Yep, and us Colin Kazim-Richards (who was subsequently known as the Coca Cola kid). Both turned out extremely well..

The mighty Rams!!!
So much bitterness on this thread it's untrue.

Years and years we've not spent any money with the aim of building a competitive base to spend when the timing is right. We are doing that now.

We/our chairman is stating that we will be within FFP. That's good enough for me because we've been compliant every year since its start.

What's more is its funny coming from some Ipswich fans where under Keane I remember big spending. The difference is we are saying we are doing that with FFP.

Regarding the competition as a whole, it is pathetic and quite sad that two undeserving teams have won it.

People are jealous, that's all. I don't think Championship clubs should be involved in it, but it is what it is.

That 250k will do quite nicely to further strengthen our next bid for Jason Shackell.
