Howe would be mad to take it, and I reckon he'd turn it down too if offered.

Only the Liverpool players could hold their head up high tonight, and I even include Skrtel in that!

I assume Henderson has been transferred then?

When open play is a struggle, Spain showed that a set piece can do it. Except Spain wouldn't have Henderson or Rooney taking them.

Saltire. I do hope you are not including Horrenderson. He was was effing crap!
What the fuck was Roy drinking last night? Must have gone to an absinth bar. Fucking idiot!
I listened to his post match interview. I just wanted to leather him.
Henderson did as well as any in your side tbh. He is looking sharper again which is great news for Liverpool if he can come back in one piece.

Said it before and I'll say it again, would love to see young Eddie Howe given a go.

I'd settle for Eddie Izzard! :ffs:

Will be watching the conclusion of Group F with added interest now, who does everyone want to get in the last 16? Iceland or Hungary on paper would be great but we've seen our inability to break down weaker sides, maybe Portugal would actually be a better game for England?

Out on pens to any of the three. After a 0-0 with Iceland/Hungary, or a 1-1 with Portugal.

Saltire. C'mon mate, that toe-rag took three corners and couldn't get it past the first defender. Atrocious. I hope he plays like that in the PL next season.

It'll likely be Iceland or Hungary. If Portugal win their game v Hungary, the only way Portugal can come second is if Iceland beat Austria by a greater margin (seems unlikely). If Portugal draw, the only way they can come second is if Iceland also draw but score less in a draw. If Portugal lose, they're out.

If Portugal win, it'll probably be Hungary who come second, unless Iceland pick up a win. If Portugal draw, it could be anyone besides them who comes second. If Iceland win, Hungary will come second; if Iceland draw, they'll come second; if Iceland lose then Austria will come second.

Yep, it's confusing but unlikely to be Portugal.

We were poor in the final third. Sturridge was brilliant in the first half but faded badly in the second. Although Kane's contribution was no better than Sturridge's second half performance. I was hoping Rashford would get the nod instead of Kane.

Against teams that park the bus you can't pass your way around them. You've got to have players who can take on a man and pull opposition players away from their marker. Rooney, Clyne and Bertrand all tried this. Clyne being the most successful of the 3. Rooney's dribbling skills are non existent and his first touch was too heavy for him to make it work.

Our best team was the one that started.

Chances are then it's Hungary Iceland or Austria. If Portugal win they look likely to top the group, if they don't then they're likely to be 3rd or worse.

Right....it's all so clear now. ;)

I think it'll be Austria. I think Portugal will scrape out a win against Hungary and I also think Austria will beat Iceland.

Lol yeah it blew my mind a bit writing that.

I think we'll be happy with Hungary, Austria or Iceland in the next round. To be honest, I think we'd beat Portugal too. We've just given ourselves a tough quarter final but that might suit us anyway. It's boring watching us (or anyone else for that matter) trying to break through a parked bus every game.

Don't think that can happen. Austria and Hungary would both be on 4 points but Hungary would finish ahead of them on head to head.

Trying to stay positive... Our 2nd round draw is arguably better now we've finished 2nd. QF probably would've been Belgium, instead it looks like France. SF probably would've been Spain, instead likely to be Germany...
France would be at the Stade de France, hell of a game that'd be.

Failing to score a single goal in open play against shite like Russia and Slovakia is very worrying. Hilarious considering how excited we all were about the goalscoring potential we had pre-tournament. In a way this England side reminds me a bit of United under van Gaal last season, find it hard to break teams down who's main intention is to defend and then the manager comes out with the "I thought we fully deserved to win the game" bollocks even though the game went pretty much as the opposition intended. It's not the end of the world as we should have enough about us to beat whoever finishes 2nd in group F, and surely they'll have to show a bit more ambition in attack than what we've faced so far which should suit us better, but it's not looking good.

Yeah, fair point. That scenario can't happen, but Austria could finish 2nd if they beat Iceland and Hungary draw with or beat Portugal. Crazy that we could end up playing any of them.

If we want to win the tournament we have to play and beat the best teams, whether it be in the second round or quarter final. We win our next game and we'll all forget this game.

Don't worry everyone, just realised that Denmark came 2nd to Sweden in their group in 1992.

We're right on course.

Thought the total opposite to Saltire about the Liverpool players. It's times like tonight, watching some of their first team regulars play and weighing them up with more intent that I realise why they are so shit and just how much mediocrity has crept into the pores of that club. We had 5 players out there playing for midtable sides in our league, most of them Liverpool. All just "oh close" players like Lallana, or "good on his day and when fit" like Sturridge, "gets up and down well" Clyne etc. No real quality and that's why we couldn't carve a bang average side like Slovakia open.

We'll hopefully scrape past the average side we'll be due to play in the last 16 (not a foregone conlcusion, if tonight was a knockout game it's not far fetched to predict it would have gone to the lottery of penalties). And then we'll be beaten by the French in the quarters.

One postive is Eric Dier who is and will be a superb player in that holding role. Tough, sharp passer, good reader of the game and still young. Tottenham and England have a gem there.

We literally have no idea how to break teams down that sit in. It was ten men wandering around the middle of the pitch with Clyne out wide tonight.

Shite to watch but pretty much as expected really. Be funny if we did end up playing Portugal now, the papers will go ape shit.

No worse than anyone else in that midfield.

I take it Rooney gets a pass

I'm a United fan that happens to dislike Rooney and the way he plays so your comment was slightly wide of the mark.

Like most of Henderson's passes, shots and crosses.

Typical england unimpressive meh football making a meh group look like world beaters. Reality is after scraping a win against wles hodgson had a semi final in his grasp. Then saw italy and france rest players and thought he'd follow suit. Trouble is woy obviously cant count as they both had 6 points and could afford to do so.
No clue, no width, no pacey subs as all on from the start.
Another wasted chance with usual bizarre decisions like picking midfielders ala wilshire, sterling, etc who have seldom played over form players like townsend, drinkwater etc.

Yes yes we need to beat best teams to win the tournament....bullshit. France won a world cup off dodging the best until the final. Embarressingly negative england once again.

Really though? If we had won the group we'd probably have ended up playing Spain in the quarters, now we would likely play France. Is there much difference there?

Bored of the over analysis and over thinking regarding our national team. Everyone coming up with specific permutations, ifs and buts and what might have been.

Personally, I think it's only fair to reserve judgement after the tournament, when we know how well or bad we did and where we finished. We have still games to play, we still might win it and we could lose in the next round.

We are through and that's the main thing. Whilst also, because of the extended amount of teams in this tournament, our next round game could well be no more difficult than if we finished top. I see people moaning about the potential of playing France, but both nations have a game to play and try and win yet before that. We're going to have to face the big boys at some point.

We didn't win the group, which yes we should of and this tournament could yet be a huge failure, again. However I can't really moan at any performance from the three games. We look good, that's the most frustrating thing! Maybe we have been unlucky or just not ruthless or good enough? Time will tell. But personally, I love these international tournaments and getting behind our lads. What's not to like? Negativity seeps through this nation I'm afraid. Perhaps that's our biggest hindrance. Keep the faith (or at least try too!)

France beat Italy in the quarter finals in 98. They would have also met Germany in the semi final, if Germany hadn't loss to Croatia in the quarters.

Whilst, we've hardly been negative have we? I criticised the changes myself, but they were hardly negative ones.
