If it's classed as a careless or reckless challenge or one using excessive force then whether he got the ball or not is irrelevant.

You really think that tackle constitutes "careless or reckless challenge or one using excessive force"?

Probably because it makes it look like a dive rather than a foul. In this case the player didn't look like he had been fouled because he knocked the ball too far in front of himself and went down theatrically.

The second one was surely a pen though

That is a pen as well

What it looks like and what happened are different matters. Going down too easily is an agitating consequence, but has no bearing on what should or should not be called.

Lucky boy, Mignolet.

Mignolet should be off.

This is going from bad to worse now.

Well he's completely wiped him out and only got the ball by fluke with his trailing leg, so arguably, yeah.

Friend's just decided he's given 4 now so he might as well not give any

Mignolet should be off. Liverpool could have 8 men left.

That was as bad as I've seen all season. Absolutely specialist display of shitehawkery from Kevin Friend.

Shouldn't be losing but it's tough when it's 11 vs 14.

We've got nothing upfront. Again.

Didn't think the officiating was that bad. Djuricic goes down too easily on the opening 2 appeals, Fonte gets the ball ahead of Sterling and those handball ones are always 50/50. Also very hard to judge from the ref's positioning whether Mignolet handled the ball outside the area.
I reckon Southampton should just try and score instead of appealing all the time. I'm pretty sure they'll score this way. It's strange because this is something that Liverpool have been doing lately but today the roles are reversed.

Phil - How on earth is the 2nd one not a penalty? That's as blatant as they come. Don't care if the player acted as if he had been shot.

Yes, Djuricic really isn't very good.

Pelle hasn't been any good for months either. Mane's been our best attacker, scoring goals against Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal before he went to the ACON and then QPR on his return, yet he's on our bench.

Miss Jay Rodriguez too.

JWP has been wank again. Don't understand the hype on him around this forum.

Still felt like Djuricic could have stayed on his feet. There's also the fact that he went down easy seconds before may have something to do with Friend's decision.

How come the officiating has suddenly become so wank in the Prem, Atkinson yesterday, Friend today? I thought all the shit refs were reserved for us in the Conference.

Anyone who thinks that Saints haven't been on the end of some dodgy decisions and Liverpool aren't very fortunate needs to give their head a wobble.

It's strange that this game has been so entertaining yet mostly devoid of real quality. Coutinho hasn't done anything positive apart from that stunner. Lallana and Sterling have been anonymous.

Radamel "blind as a fucking bat" Falcao would have reffed this game to a higher standard than the clowns in charge.
