Seem like good guys these. Our Carol and Kevin were asked by them for advice last weekend as they wanted to follow their example (which they were very flattered about) and their interview sounded decent.

Hopefully they turn out like our Carol and Kevin after we’d suffered years of poor ownership and they do well, turn your club around and reconnect it with the fans.

I get the impression this is the Southend owner's idea and the new Grimsby owners are just going along with it to see what happens, they'd be better off letting Ron Martin make a tit of himself on his own.

So you could argue Ron Martin is the Florentino Perez of the league 2 relegation zone.

We’ve kept Phil Day on (former Chairman and legal chap) to see through the appeal. We’d be mad not to see it through just in case.

presumably if Southend's appeal was (unlikely as it seems) successful then Grimsby would also benefit, don't need to give it lip service yourselves.

So Fenty has fucked off and everyone is pointing and saying they didn't start this.
Let’s face it, Stevenage, Barrow, Colchester, Scunthorpe and possibly Walsall were all probably involved at some point too, they’ll just be staying quiet on the matter not it’s not them who dropped.

No it was our ex chairman (who is also a lawyer) according to Hurst, and he is still in the board as part of a transition period.

Walsall were above Bolton when they voted to end NLN/S - just as much chance that the Trotters were involved.

Neither side will come close to challenging for some while you’d imagine.
Can't imagine a side has ever been relegated from the Football League with such high morale as us right now. We'll be pissing that tinpot league sooner rather than later, don't worry.

That's probably fair - the worst thing you could do is sign up a load of L2 deadbeats to fill the gaps in the team. What was the main criticism of Hurst last time round? Was it his signings or his tactics? I seem to remember he was always being slagged off until he got you up.
Something that's grossly over exaggerated for some weird reason. Too defensive/cautious and occasional weird substitutions were the main criticism, but he also used to mention the supporters in a bit of a dismissive manner. He seems less edgy and a bit more relaxed this time round, we've even seen him smile. Hopefully with Fenty gone he'll be more at ease in his role and there will be less of a toxic attitude around the place (part of which the supporters have previously been responsible for).

It was always referred to on here that there was a "Hurst Out brigade". I seem to remember there was a banner made that said "Hurst Out of this world" or something, to mock those that hung banners calling for him to be sacked.
Nobody's saying all Grimsby fans wanted rid - but it always 'seemed' like there were calls for him to go from some quarters.

Yeah, I think the only poster on here that was slightly anti-Hurst was Lew. GTFCfish was very pro and the rest of us were more pro than anti, I'd say. There always were calls for him to get sacked from some in the wider fanbase, you're right about that. However, like I said, it was massively over exaggerated and he had more of the supporters backing him than not.

I believe there was only ever one banner too after the Braintree first leg...not in the ground either, on the route out of or back into Cleethorpes (can't remember its exact loaction). Another element of this story that has been exaggerated by the sounds of it. You've only got to look at the support in the second leg to know he was backed. 300+ mins of no goals scored against them all season, trailing deep into the second half of the second leg and still loud as fuck. There's also the small matter of the fact that the fans raised over 100k to boost his wage budget the summer before that people conveniently gloss over when telling us all that we wanted him sacked.

There was a trend a while ago in which the Lincoln fans would go and read The Fishy and come on here and throw things at the Town fans as if these opinions were our opinions on here. All part of their obsession with us.

I still see Lincoln fans spouting absolute nonsense about Stags on twitter now and again from the season they won the L2 title. Bizarre.

Their owner has charged in with the mad suggestion that the NL should’ve deducted points for next season from the teams that finished in the relegation zone this year.

I think it's only fair that that happens - but that any deductions from the teams that finish in 21st and 22nd this year are added to Dover's points deduction for next year and not the 2 teams involved.

I’m totally against it, we should be going down but I do see the point they’re trying to make

I do love the AGM Cup.

Twists and turns worthy of a Graham Greene novel and characters as sly and ruthless as Colleoni (Brighton Rock) appear out of the woodwork.

Although fun from the outside I will admit it's awful when it's your club involved.

My favourite AGM cup was in the Conference in 2006. Firstly it was 2 down instead of 3 due to restructuring, which saved us after finishing 3rd bottom (having been reprieved the year before). Tamworth and Scarborough finished in the bottom 2.

Then mid table Altrincham were deducted 15 points for fielding a player that they didn’t realise needed international clearance which they appealed over (and seemed to blame us thanks to our club secretary Colin Peake being on the Conference board at the time). Conflict of interest etc.

That put Alty bottom and reprieved Tamworth, Scarborough moved up to 21st which was also enough to stay up after Canvey Island resigned from the league, until Scarborough themselves were kicked out which reprieved Alty even after they’d lost their appeal. Good times.

Can't beat the spirit of fair and open competition on a level playing field :D

Yeah the Alty fans were still up in arms about that when we came down!
