Two points

Grimsby and Southend the two worst teams in the EFL and fully deserve to go down.

The National league lost its competitive integrity when they cancelled relegation half way through the season and kicked out a side that had already played 10 games expunging their record.

How do you reconcile those two points together? Personally you don't, 70 out of 72 clubs won't care because it doesn't effect them and life will go on.

Straw clutching as I said in my original post, but wouldn't complain if a miracle happened either.

Nor did i complain that we went down, I accepted we were down at Christmas and personally enjoyed our time in NL last time and no doubt will this time, doesn't mean I wouldn't rather be in lge 2 either!

The integrity of the national league and your relegation are two unrelated issues. Or are you saying there should be no promotion from the NL this season too?

I'm not saying anything, I'm just presenting the other side of the argument, makes no difference to me. However, reading between the lines that looks like an argument, that the two promoted sides are promoted unfairly based on when in the season they played certain clubs, as half the league had nothing to play for at certain times and may or may not have tried, had different players playing etc. I guess.

Probably should really be an argument for the other clubs in the NL that don't get promoted!

And based on our owners comment it looks like this has been ongoing with the EFL since before it was confirmed us and Southend were down, just so happens we are now the only two clubs it matters too.

Sorry, I worded that badly. By you I meant your club. But yes, I don’t see how there can be an argument that you shouldn’t be relegated without saying no one should be promoted either.

Well you could, you could not relegate 2 and still promote 2 and run with 26 in league 2. Would mean 50 games though, perhaps 2 extra home games would help finances?

EFL could argue they won't relegate 2 of its clubs into a badly run league but will still accept 2 up.

Then maybe have 3 down for 2 seasons to bring back to 24 clubs. Very unlikely again but it could be done., it would also stop any legal challenges from NL and promoted clubs about not being promoted.

Only thing would be the closed shop people bring up with the PL and then them refusing relegation, but I don't agree with those arguments, the closed shop has already happened in the NL, the EFL has no integrity issues as they played on until completion without changing the rules, if it ever where to happen.

Again its all straw clutching and I fully expect to be losing to Hartlepool, Boreham Wood and Stockport next season!

The only grounds Grimsby and Southend could possibly argue is that there’s a danger of this league not going ahead next season. But with this season being completed and crowds about to return, it’s not an argument that makes any sense.

NL teams not being relegated this season is irrelevant to them.

What does that mean? Not sure anyone other than Luton that have been down here are bigger than us in truth.

Really?! Doncaster weren't a big Club in the NL back then (maybe relative to other teams in those seasons, but not the second biggest to have been in the NL).
He must be trolling.

We already are over it, been over it since Christmas, but don't say you wouldn't do exactly the same if you were in the same position. Nothing to lose, even though we already know the answer.

I want to know if this was put in before the new owners arrived though, this is the first we've heard of it and it's only coming from Southend side that we put the proposal in and they are backing it.
I'm not having a pop at Grimsby or Southend fans when I say about getting over it etc. I might be reading the room wrong but I'm pretty certain deep down 99% of the fans of these clubs wouldn't really be banging much of a drum for this at all.

I'm talking about the suits/owners etc who would even bother to lodge these lawsuits.

Be interested to know if this theory that teams having nothing to play for in the bottom half ruins the integrity of the league theory has actually played out in reality. Cos my sense is that it hasn’t.

Just a quick glance at the six game form table shows Dagenham, Barnet, Yeovil all towards the top, despite their nowt to play for status. Chesterfield and Notts towards the bottom. Sutton in the bottom half. I suspect it’ll just end up looking like a normal league table in terms of points totals etc, four fewer games aside.

One of the leagues somewhere had to absorb a lack of relegation from their league with the way it was going in the semi professional game, it just happened to be National League. There was a time where I thought it looked like this level wouldn't be able to finish which would have meant League Two would have had to absorb it. Would the League One clubs have then complained? Maybe.

It's just not a goer at all.

I get that, relegation has to end somewhere, but it's different organisations, lge 1 and 2 are in the same organisation, the NL is a different organisation, hence the argument.

Genuinely don't want to go back up there, I'd be less excited about next season if we were in L2.

I get that.

It's just not right though is it. Simple as that for me. I just don't like all this taking everything down the legal route, it's been happening across football a lot recently. I get club officials are in place to work for their clubs best interests so I'm not having a go at anyone spefically nor any fans of any clubs. I imagine my club would do similar in that position, I wouldn't like it then either.

Of course it's not right, it's also not right that the NL is somehow worse run than the EFL, which is an achievement in itself!

It seems it was Grimsby who have pushed for the appeal and Southend followed.

Club with a clueless chairman. Least we know they won’t be competing next season.

Self interest that's what it is. Both decent clubs. But turn it the other way round if they pulled that appeal off it would mean the whole National league season would have been pointless. They won't win that appeal. The same way the likes of South Shields and York didn't last season

Thought I’d have a nosy at The Fishy and there’s so many Grimsby fans on there that reckon the whole of the National League is on the verge of financial collapse because of the government loans. Lads, only a third of clubs even bothered getting a loan because everyone (including us) down here has huge financial backing for some reason.

Remind me what league Macclesfield and Bury were in when they went bust. Both leagues are poorly run.

I said a while ago that promotion might be in doubt because of the Mickey Mouse nature of not relegating anyone and the leagues below being declared n and v.

That doesn’t stop however Grimsby and Southend’s case being totally embarrassing.

Some football clubs/chairmen are an utter disgrace, quiet simple your bottom for a reason. It’s embarrassing for your fans never mind other clubs it could effect.
After not watching football for a while beginning to wonder if it’s worth it anymore.
It’s been a pandemic and least you’ve played.
Grimsby and Southend should be relegated 100% and don’t get me started on Dover they should be demoted to Sunday afternoon league.

Grimsby and Southend challenging relegation is tinpot thread material. You've got to feel for the fans.

At least the end is in sight for Grimsby.

I am amazed that Southend and Grimsby have the money to waste on this appeal.
No doubt both clubs will be complaining of financial problems next season..and being made to play in the rain
