More important appointments to come in the scouting and recruitment people for me. I'm still of the opinion that with Ron in charge it doesn't particularly matter who comes in on the coaching side, they'll still have to deal with him, they still have to wonder if and when they are being paid and whether any of the budget spoken about is the realistic figure or fantasy.

It's up to Ron now, especially when other people take a step back, to either stop meddling and change his ways or just carry on the same and keep interfering in every facet of the club.
It is up to Ron tbh but I’m certainly viewing this as a positive step. Managers have been successful under him in the past so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility especially if he is nothing to do with the football side of things and if Stan stays that looks like it will be the case.

regarding the recruitment of scouts etc I think a lot of this seasons shocking recruitment was Brown himself I’m not having Will Atkinson was scouted by Anton Robinson nor Coulson Dunne and others

Ron has to back them, then stay out of the way. From the last couple of seasons of Brown MKI to the present day every manager/coach/scout/recruitment person has been working with their hands tied behind their back. Then just to add to their misery they've had Ron taking decisions out of their hands and just doing whatever he wants.

He only stayed out of the way previously because he had excellent CEOs who were as strong willed as him. Plus his best ever managerial appointment, Paul Sturrock, was another one who was unwilling to put up with Ron's crap, but in the end look what happened there as well!

I'm pleased we've got in place a couple of guys (Maher and Bentley) who truly care about the club and know how Ron works but right at this moment unless a LOT of things change in the club then we could have just hired whoever. It'll be actions now rather than, for me, an appointment which smacks of calming things down with the fans and stopping protests.

This bollocks from Ron that we have a top 6 budget, Ron doesn't know that and won't until next year (or next century for us) when club accounts are published. It's like the season Brown was sacked in league 1 where he claimed we had a top 3 budget and we should be getting promoted. When everything came out we were 14th in terms of squad budget.
Too many people have been the fall guys for our main issue, Ron Martin, it's just a shame our fanbase are so apathetic and easily pleased to properly hold him accountable.

I agree with this but we're also hampered by our record of not paying wages on time and being a complete basket case, we're always just shopping in the bargain basement.

I'll be very intrigued to see the recruitment set up. The coaching set up strikes me as someone else will be doing the hiring of players and the coaches will only have very small input into who is brought into the club.
I don't actually have a problem with that, I'm for an all or nothing approach, either give a manager full remit over every avenue of club affairs, or get other people to do all of that work and leave these guys to do the coaching.

Good chap is Kevin Maher. Worked hard for us and will be missed. Great appointment and I reckon he will turn you around.

Cheers George, we have a Zoom meeting tonight, open to all fans, with a max capacity of 1,000, which will be chaired by Stan . First 15 minutes will be an overview of the appointments and then open to the floor for any questions.

Obviously they will be sent in before hand to avoid duplication and maximise the range of questions able to be fielded. The call will be posted on Social Media afterwards as in previous times.

Obviously the composition of the other footballing and scouting positions will be announced by then. Fingers crossed Stan gets his desired Head of Football Operations position this time around.

Exciting times.

Nothing against your club or anything BUT - If only football was that simple.

If you look at Shrimperzone, no one is expecting this to be easy, by any means, especially with our owner still in situ. However we now have three proven coaches at the levels they have operated in, and with knowledge of operating and playing in teams higher than this level, all singing off of the hymn sheet as laid down by the club, during the interview process, to give a us a solid foundation to work with the squad.

Behind that we will have a recruitment team of knowledgeable professionals, which will hopefully include Stan, to sell the club to future signings, all age groups including junior ranks. That is a club that has played in the second tier of English football and topped it on one brief occasion. Competed on a weekly basis with the likes of Newcastle, Leeds, Blackburn, Forest etc. and beaten them, having a very long term aim to get back there again.

At the moment though, the short term aim will be to stabilise in here after a god awful start, by a god awful set up, with an alleged top three wage budget and a bottom 2 team.

We may be using the loan market, but now at last, also looking at the local talent in the teams around us.

Whatever we do, it's going to be a long haul, but now done with a plan to follow, much the same as Brentford. If we achieve half of that, it will be a success.

One more point to answer a previous poster, the above is exactly why Darren Currie has seen it as a job worth taking to come here as assistant, when there are plenty of other clubs presently in this division that would gladly take him as manager!

Tomorrow I'll rejoin the club that believed in me when others didn't, that felt like a family rather than an industry and sent coach loads of supporters to my England debut despite having moved on. "If nobody believes you can, then you have to " And I will.

Definitely an appointment to reinvigorate the supporters. Club legend like Maher will keep the heat off of Uncle Ron nicely. Pity your squad is utterly fucking shit.

They all seem very 'keep the heat off the Chairman' appointments on the face of it, which every Club down here has probably done to some degree over the years but maybe not to the extent this seems to be.

I'm assuming Collymore knows a DoF if a proper, full time job and not just a fancy title that makes him look heavily involved?

To be fair Currie was about as good as can be expected given everything, I don’t realistically see who else would have gone to Southend that knows/has a good recent record in this division. Don’t know much about Maher or Bentley’s coaching abilities, will be interesting to see how it turns out

It does actually seem closer than ever now but again, 'seeing is believing' with this one.

Ron and his Son ultimately owning all the assets. That'll end well.
We're going to end up in the same position as Oxford United. Ron will sell the club but not the stadium and charge us rent to use it. Just like Oxford we'll end up with a new stadium that we're looking to move out of cos the owner won't sell it to whoever owns the football club.
I've got my fingers crossed it won't be passed, or will have enough objections and interventions that it drags on longer.
The very original plan back in 2006ish was fully passed by local and central government but then Ron ran out of money and investors and we never saw a spade in the ground, so if it is fully passed today, with Ron in charge it doesn't really mean much.

The fact that the £30m loan has been secured from central government and the recommendation from the officers to the main council means it is unlikely, but not impossible, for it to not pass this stage.

It will then get called in by the Secretary of State, due to the size of the development, however due to the amount of housing now included, that would also be unlikely to fail.

From then on it would be advantageous for Tom to stay in place as CEO, due to his legal background and keep pushing Ron to clarify the revenue streams which are available to support the football club, making it self sufficient, but watch this space on that one!

Alongside former chief exec Geoff King. Serious Fraud Squad have brought the case to court and my understanding is it is to do with the football club rather than one of Ron's other businesses.

I can probably take a wild guess as to what it relates to.

No wonder he wants the stadium so badly!

The worst thing is that it’s not surprising. Neither would it be for our own very lovely chairman.

That needs adjusting downwards accordingly, otherwise we'll find ourselves with the Southern version of Darlington. Which wouldn't be surprising as it appears that your owner might be just as mental as that Darlo owner was.
