That's got to sting for Chesterfield, they have absolutely battered us this half and as soon as they score, we go up and get a penalty. 3-1 flatters us but the fans deserve it.

Yeah Chesterfield looked really good up front McKeown kept us in it first 25 mins and Collins and Clarke made numerous blocks all game. Second half we were hanging on just lumping it away but I still felt they weren't gonna score as we were defending so well.
Brilliant away day and Chesterfields ground is absolute mint.
Oh and Siriki Dembele........ :hail:

I'd heard Dembele was good but Christ almighty, one of the best players I've seen in a Grimsby shirt.

Cracking defensive display and Rose was also outstanding.

Can't wait to see the highlights later. Would've taken a point today!
Same here I said to my mate after McKeown made his second great save after about 20 mins that I'd take a 0-0.

Well, that's a bad result first up. Not going to be good for the confidence. Sounds like Grimsby defended like heroes though and the keeper was different class. That's not always going to be the case and it doesn't seem like we need to change anything. Onto County next week

Being honest, and I could be wrong...think we saw 2 top 7 sides today.

Your keeper is great, in Clarke and Collins you have the perfect L2 CB pairing... While Vernon looked good, and the kid... Well wow.

My nephew has just put this on FB

"Avoid Sheffield Road and Whitt Moor, just had a pint glass thrown at my car"

Vans, cars and dogs also on Sheffield Road apparently... I saw no sign of anything as I left though tbh.

Didn't go, but got to be disappointed in Evatt as well. You're 2 down and just got one back to get back into the game, and he goes to ground in the box and gives them a pen straight away? Not something you'd expect him to do, he should know better. Even if it was a good chance, you've got to ride your luck and hope your keeper bails you out. Like I say though I didn't see it and maybe he felt like he HAD to. I'll have to see it on the highlights.

Go back to your own part of the forum and celebrate your 1-1 draw

First off, well done Grimsby. You'll get no sour grapes from us this season.

Without going in to detail, I think we had better play, but you were very assured and clinical and you jumped on all our nativity. I think against a less solid side our new team, tactical mysteries and all might have got something. But Grimsby were too wise to it all.

You look to the start, where Ugwu pulled a good save from the gk. If that goes in, then we calm down and we kick on. Unfortunately, 2 bits of 'last season defending' and we're in the crap.

After huffing and puffing with little confidence up front, we get one.. But of course can't even concentrate for the next 30 seconds to make it interesting.

From that point it turned to silliness on and off the pitch.

I don't think this will define us. I'm gutted, but it's life.

Good luck for the rest of the season lads.

Although we lost I'm feeling really positive about this season, we played some great football today, and on a different day were scoring 4/5/6!! What we came up against today was a resilient grimsby side, effective on the counter attack! If you perform in every away game like you did today then you won't go far wrong!!

Positives on our part:
- Louis Reed, fantastic again! Technically he is far above league 2 standard, and with some better finishing he'd have ended up with 2/3 assists!
- We played some great stuff, and against teams with a weaker defence than grimsbys very strong and resilient back line, we will cause havoc!
- Kristian Dennis looked sharp when he came on and scored a nice goal! Stays fit and he'll be in top 5 goal scorers this season

Negatives:
- Thought first half we were a little naive and lacked that bit of streetwise play you need in league 2. An example being Grimsby's second goal, dembele had the ball for ages, and if it was a more experienced player tracking him rather than our 17 year old Charlie Wakefield, then he would have been brought down on the half way line!!

Overall, as has been mentioned above, two teams that will be in and amongst it this season. Both have very different styles of play, but can be equally effective! Think Grimsby fans will be very pleased with that result as I can't see many teams picking up maximum points at our place this season, especially if we continue to play the way we did today!

Up the spireites!

What are you on about? Who even are you?
He's a Scunny fan who thinks Spired is a Mariner. We've got them in our Checkatrade group.

The good old "cup final" shit. We always get that off the tinpotters with crap away support. Funny how Chesterfield didn't give us all that and just seemed genuinely excited to host a big crowd.

A few of the pubs near the ground not opening post match due to damage inside pre match. Disappointing really thought we might get through today with no trouble

Get it rate pal... There's a clue in my username.

Any comments about cup finals and crowds etc, hold no weight with us or Grimsby either mate. Both better supported clubs, but this thread isn't about petty meaningless stuff like that.

It's a polite, civilised and open debate ( the likes of which you will be probably unaccustomed to) between 2 sets of decent honest supporters... Now as I said earlier... Jog along my friend.

Shame really, as I thought the atmosphere inside the ground between the two teams was fantastic for large spells...

It was ODL... And apart from the return at BP I wish Grimsby and their proper supporters who made the trip today a prosperous season.

We all have our morons who let our clubs down.

Seems like the police are telling porkies as it's been said there was no damage in the beer parlour , they also stated s41 and donkey Derby were closed post match for the same reason but s41 have tweeted the police account asking them to retract the statement as it wasn't true , no damage or trouble was caused and they are open as usual.

How did Mitch rose do? Got off to a flying start for us and looked the perfect midfielder then disappeared

Well I must say I'm delighted with today's performance; our shape was excellent, every player knew his job, the workrate was top notch from all the players, and we looked very resilient against what I thought was a good Chesterfield side who really put us under the cosh in the second half. We may not have top quality in every position at the moment, but we have McAllister, Osborne and Asante to come back and there is still the mystery striker that we are at advanced stages in talks with.

Chesterfield will be top 10 and possibly top 7.

MoM for us has to be Dembele I guess, but Rose must get a mention in dispatches - worked like a trojan so he did...

Disappointing result but performance sounded like it was better than 3-1 suggests, matches stats and highlights back that up. Still not convinced on Caldwell, we've widened the pitch then played no wingers, just doesn't add up. Dennis and McCourt should have started for me today instead of Wakefield and Sinnott perhaps.

Looking forward to my first game of the season at Hillsborough on Tuesday
