interesting to get a concensus on the best grounds in this league from people havjng done most of them - seeing as i havent done many and need to plan some away games

so - if you had to rank them, what order would they be in?

Is this based on Ashton Gate before the demolition of the east end?

Yeah although the ground looks impressive with the rebuilt stands. It's also to do with the fact it is easy to get to from Berkshire and Bristol is a decent city for a day/night out.

Forest is by far my favourite ground in the league aside from Ashton Gate.

City Ground has the ideal balance of being a traditional ground with tons of history but one that isn't crumbling down/looking horribly outdated - my favourite in this division. Brentford, chiefly for the terrace, Wolves and Fulham are also up there for me (of the ones I've done).

It very much depends on what you look for in a stadium, I'm quite a traditionalist old sod, so I tend to like the grounds with character rather than the super duper modern stadiums with all the facilities. I've done pretty much all the grounds currently in this league, my personal top 5 would probably read something like

Fulham
Forest
QPR
Ipswich
Sheffield Wednesday
Blackburn (I know that's 6)

But out of the newer stadiums, the likes of MK Dons & Cardiff are a pleasant day out.

City Ground is quality, it's my favourite one in the division, also like Elland Road. Deepdale retains history with modern facilities whilst I loved the old away end at Ashton Gate even if my shins didn't. Not a fan of the new builds personally but if I had to pick a better one then it's Brighton.

Out of the new builds i like Stadium MK best, just a shame it's a gash awayday for boozers, trains ect, i do like terraces but you get a shit view at Brentford so not a big fan, Hillsborough would be quality if it ever gets modernized, it's just a rusty version of Villa Park at the moment, out of the smaller new build, i haven't seen a better one than our very own NYS stadium yet.

The actual stadium at MK is extremely impressive but the match day experience is awful, even with a big support.
I haven't been to Craven Cottage for years so can't really assess it but Charlton and Forest would be right up there for the whole experience as would Preston.
As we are mid rebuild, it's difficult to assess our place I should think but it will be very good come the summer and Bristol's a nice place for a trip.
Cardiff and Reading are horrible, just horrible.

Already been said by a few people but the City Ground is my favourite also. Great location and can get a cracking atmosphere going.

Not been to Fulham but have heard that it's a great away day.

The thread title does say Stadiums so I would have to say MK Dons is the best I've been to, not been to Brighton yet though, will revisit after next Saturday.

Not been to Bristol City since the 90s probably, it didn't stand out especially in my memory, though it was rough as fuck back in them days :box:

Not been to Preston since the 90s either, it only had 3 sides back then but it was still pretty decent.

I disagree about MK, we went there on a stag do and had a right good piss up, found a pub open at 10am 5 minutes from Bletchley station, and further on another 3 or 4 boozers, after the game we drank in the TFIs etc opposite the stadium then at the Weatherspoons before getting back on the train at MK, you've just got to be 100% committed to alcohol and you'll find your fix

Not sure what the thread originator is looking for, so I'll give two answers.

Best away day all things considered (location, boozers, hostility and ground)
1) Huddersfield
2) Forest
3) Brentford

Best ground in isolation
1) Forest
2) Derby
3) Preston

These are only of the ones I've been to, and the ones I haven't are Brighton, Cardiff, Fulham and MK Dons.

Forest for a really good ground that isn't a soulless bowl, plus has good drinking opportunities and is a cracking night out
Brentford for the nostalgia kick, loads of pubs and a terrace!! Will be sad when it's gone.
I've always liked the design of Charlton's Valley, the way you walk down into it, is also modern without being too modern and soulless.
Plus all London games are good for us, because it's the one place that's easy to get to for us. So QPR and Fulham are good too.

Wolves is a very nice ground in itself. Just a shame that the locals a) won't let you drink anywhere half decent, and b) want a ruck after the game.

Ipswich could be decent because it's good for the train and drinking, but the ridiculous price of their tickets, the poor view you can get, plus crazy stewards there all mark it down.

Derby I find incredibly soulless, and a total cluster f**k to get to and from.

Haven't been to Bristol City since all the recent developments, but it was a decent ground before. So I look forward to whenever our paths next cross in future.

Eh? M1-A52-x2 roundabouts. What's hard about that?!

Or maybe it's a reference to our 'massive' fan base.

By road is only way really of doing Derby, and even on a Tuesday night with a reduced attendance, I've had to sit in crazy traffic both ways. I guess because that's the only route everyone takes. And the parking is shit.

Although once I did try a different tactic on the way back and managed to stumble my way around the Derbyshire countryside and get onto the motorway another way. Don't ask me how. But it still took about as long as it would have done sitting in traffic.

Hillsborough and Elland Road are my favourites, Turf Moor has the best away end though.

City Ground and Molineux are decent and I quite like QPR because of how compact it is.

Derby, Rotherham, Hull & MK Dons are all bland and forgettable, Huddersfield is slightly better.

Deepdale is decent for a new build I think, really good when its full (or full-ish) but that doesn't happen often enough.

At least we are good at something..

I love the CG. Best location of any ground I've been to, loads of stuff nearby and short hop into the city centre. Perfect really.

Other than the Main Stand the place is in reasonable nick. And as mentioned, on the rare occasion it gets full nowadays it really does rock.

I liked the look of the new Ashton Gate, should look smart once the new grand stand is built.

Current favourites: QPR or Brentford. Ipswich was also decent and close to the station, but the actual away end wasn't the most spacious place in the world (and they didn't serve booze!). The Valley is nice too, but the away end feels like it isn't really part of the ground and a bit out of the way. But it is a really nice ground. Also like Molineux.

Not a fan of any of the new age grounds, though they're well run places, such as the iPro and Amex.

My favourite is Deepdale. Great away day up there with some decent pubs within walking distance. I agree with the above that it seems to have the perfect mix of an old school and new build to it. Shame all of our games up there are boring and forgettable (excluding the 3-1 Iwelumo game).

Ipswich's Portman Park is a decent stadium too, although expensive and a long journey. Hillsbrough, City Ground and The Valley make up my top 5.

TBF, if you make the rookie mistake of driving and parking in Pride Park, you aren't getting out in a hurry.

Should do what I do, leave after an hour and be back in the pub in Notts for full time. Might have had something to do with Derby's 5th going in mind. #RealFan #Fickle

They do shut the roads around the stadium for 30 minutes after the game so aslong as you park out that radius it's fine. I'm guessing you probably get caught up in that when you visit, it's normally not too bad at all.

As for proper football grounds, Deepdale, Molineux and the City Ground were all good. Brentford as well - I like the terrace, shit view though.

Reading and Cardiff were shit in comparison to Stadium:MK in terms of modern grounds, as I thought Stadium MK had a bit about it with the second tier etc, despite it not being used...

Another modern ground I didn't mind was The Amex - big ground that was full to the rafters with people, and easily accessible by train.

The Royal Oak is closed.
The Griffin was ok on Saturday but £8.80 for two pints........God I couldn't live in London.

Oh and it is nice to stand on a terrace for a change........ but the view is really poor.
Looking forward to visiting the new ground.

I used to live in Nottingham and have never really been a fan of the City Ground, the match-day experience, its location and the ground itself. All the decent bars and restaurants by Maid Marian Way and the Lace Market face the opposite way from the station.

I was sitting with my mate the other day (we are both from Nottingham living in London) and we were sitting there having a pint and musing over when it became acceptable to pay £4+ for a pint and for neither of us to bat an eyelid. It's a joke!

£5 is a disgrace, anywhere.
