Oh piss off! Love and kisses, Kermit and Miss Piggy.
It's a 'local' thing FFS! Like you won't take the piss when Blackpool lose?
It's the same thing. Imagine (god forbid) the gas were in this league, it would be ALOT worse!

Imagine the prospect of all three of you in the same league someday, somehow I think the forum non-City/Rovers/Swindon population would vanish within hours.

I'll be honest, I didn't even know Bristol City & Swindon were rivals until this season.

Not likely though Bacchus.
On 1FF's we had a City v scum page and it was huge!! Luckily they are heading for oblivion and it couldn't happen to a 'nicer' bunch of c***ts!
FYI, we REALLY don't mix well, gas bastards!

That's the thing SF, we really aren't. Yes, it's only 35 miles away and we don't get on particularly well but, because both of us haven't had anyone else and how fruity the November game was, this has a new meaning. It won't ever replace the gas or the sheep shaggers but this game means something now whereas it really wasn't a big deal before.

A few of us were discussing this in the Swindon/City match thread. It's nowhere near on the same level as the Bristol derby, and still comes behind Cardiff, but it has massively intensified this season after that November game. Losing to them last season didn't feel any different to any other league game, and neither did it when they beat us in the League Cup a couple of years earlier. We only had a 6k attendance that night, and it was the first time we'd played them in years, so as a fanbase we weren't that arsed with it.

But this season it's gone up another level....or 10

That's fair enough, being in quite a sparsely populated area (football club wise) I suppose secondary rivals come in different formats.

Whereas being a Lancashire club our rivals were decided 100 years ago and are all of similar stature, it's a good region to be in, in that sense.

Our rivals WERE decided 100 years ago, the gas bastards and Cardiff. This is a one year thing that hasn't really been an issue before. The gas had a historical rivalry with the roundabout dwellers but they have pissed us off this season! Payback time.

To be fair we had a similar thing with Leeds, (all be it, very one-sided with them being massive and everything) when they bought a few of our best players and we got them in the play-offs, some of our lot still do have a bit of a pathetic dislike for them to be fair.

Hmm I tend to disagree...
I think its up for debate between Swindon and Cardiff as 2nd rivals to be honest.
If you live outside Bristol in the surrounding counties and the Bristol-Swindon catchment areas clash you would certainly see it as a rivalry.

That's worth watching out for as you'll be in the same league for the first time in a while next season. Us and the Malaysian arse bandits is a given but you and Leeds is worth watching out for especially as your 'nearest and dearest' are going the same way as ours!

WTGR, you must be a fair bit younger than me bud. City v Cardiff used to be absolutely mental, far worse than the gas games TBTH. I always thought the Swindon / gas thing was their beef?

Well our secondary rival will always be Burnley, I hate them nearly as much as Blackpool.

Blackburn has always been an historical rival too (perhaps more than Blackpool) but we've barely played each other in the last 20 years since Jack Walker threw his cash at them. PNE - Bolton has history too but that's a bit of a 80's/ early 90's hooligan derby.

Went to all the Cardiff games early 00s dont like them, on the hooliganism front a huge rivalry but I dont know any of their fans for them to be classed a rival. Simple

I have a beer now and again with a Bolton fan and thought Blackburn were their main rivals?

I wasn't meaning to preach bud and I totally agree with your 'hoolie' stance but Cardiff are WAAAAYY ahead of Swindon in the rivals stakes in my eyes. Let's see next season eh? We might play both but Swindon wanted a rivalry with us, now they've bloody well got one!

I hope someone melts your club in acid

Well they hate Man Utd, football-wise in the past 10-15 years then it's definitely Blackburn but in general, no one gives a shit about Bolton, maybe Wigan and Bury.

I think with us and Cardiff it was two similar sized clubs and two rival cities but since their Malaysian takeover and their move from Ninian Park they arent Cardiff anymore.
Always seen Swindon as a rival, dont know why but they have always been a right royal pain in the backside.

It's Blackpool for your lot though isn't it? Both local and historical?
Results pending, we can have a right 'love in' next Saturday. City and 'our friends in the North.

Yeah, Blackpool are our #1 rivals no doubt.... PNE - Blackpool & Burnley - Blackburn. Rest of Lancashire are just good, local games.

We haven't had a single league derby game since our relegation 4 seasons ago, providing we go up, next season could be class..and yeah, looking forward to our game.

After having a day to ponder our spanking, the only sane conclusion I've come to is Franchise are a fucking good team.

Easy on the eye, dangerous going forward and strong at the back. Difficult to understand why they aren't walking this league on yesterday's evidence.

They must have been spectacularly shite to lose some of their games.

Still, as the 82ers will rightly say, safe and steady wins the day

We're just like you, prone to some real shockers (i.e. Walsall 0-3).

I wouldn't say they were shite when we beat them last month, we were just much better than them in the second half after a complete stalemate in the first half. I was disappointed with our draw against them at Deepdale too when we were let down by poor finishing.

I've seen nothing to say that should be walking the league.

I was referring to you being slow and steady, unspectacular but very hard to beat. Very similar to Preston in many ways.

Ourselves and Franchise are capable of fantastic football, but also capable of being complete shite which has been our downfall.

In fairness, we were missing 3 of our best players against you lot (Martin, Lewington and Alli). I am in no doubt that all 3 would have made a huge difference as you could see yesterday against Swindon Town.
