In 1998/99 Bury became the first and so far only club in English football to be relegated by goals for. Rules were changed in the summer of 1998 to go off goals for and not against. Bury were the only team to be relegated by this new rule from division one whilst Port Vale who finished on the same amount of points but had scored more goals stayed up.

That summer the rule was reverted in time for the 1999/00 and has remained ever since.

I still remember goal average, and that was before calculators were affordable, almost impossible to work our what you needed as the game went on

Wolf from Gladiators played in a reserve game for us.

We are the opposition playing West Ham in the awful movie Green Street. Yes, we live in a world where Andy Hessenthaler has been in a film with Elijah Wood. Hobbits.

Regulars include 8 out of 10 cats' Joe Wilkinson and Sky Sports' moustachioed chief England correspondent Nick Collins.

I like that one. We've got this:

This is the thread came up in a search for celeb fans, apparently Jerome Flynn came to watch us against Northampton. If we can hang on to him he'd be an upgrade from Jilly Cooper, though Jack Russell would keep his place in the starting line-up:

I think we still have the record for a Football League player with the most cup goals without a league goal (David Foley, 7 in 17 cup games, against opponents from each of top four tiers. 0 in 98 EFL matches).

I know we're the only club to change a kick off time to avoid clashing with an episode of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

We've had an away game abandoned after just 12 minutes, and a home game abandoned after just 3! I was at both games.

The record for the oldest ever FL player was set in a match at Hartlepools in 1947 when New Brighton manager Neil McBain, undaunted when traffic issues left him with just nine players and no goalkeeper, signed and played a member of the Pools groundstaff and stuck himself in goal at the age of 51y 120d

Vale’s main one is longest members of the Football League without a top flight appearance and most seasons in the second tier without a top flight appearance… if only we didn’t bottle it in 1996/97.

As mentioned before we had beaten all 92 clubs in league games with victory over Harrogate last April but now need to beat Sutton to re capture that.

As for famous fans… well the main one is obvious, also have Jonathan Wilkes, Sir Stanley Matthews (he also managed us), Phil Taylor.

Aside from that not being named after a physical place (although it’s assumed to refer to the Valley of the Ports which is in the area on the canals). Our formation is a bit sketchy, no one actually knows if we were even formed in 1876 like our badge suggests let alone why we are named as we are!

Do we still have that record or have Rotherham got it as they have been in that championship alot and can't remember them being in the top division.

We do have the unwanted record of being the only side to lose to the same non league club in 2 different Cup competitions in the same season. Scarborough in the fa cup and the football league trophy. That record won't be broken unless they let non league sides back into it.

One of the very few football league clubs never to have played at Wembly (old or new).

Only football league club from West Sussex.

Celebrity fan has got to be Dan Walker who attended games as a youngster with his family and apparently still comes to games when in town.

Celebrity player is Mark Wright (towie). Played the first half of a game last season (blowed if I can remember who against though).

Jack Russell spent some time with us as a coach, a few years back, think he was trying to teach our keepers how to catch the ball...there was also a painting of his opposite the lift on the top floor of the main stand, depicting our last game at The Lawn, but the last time I was there it had gone.

Just before we went into lockdown I saw George Clarke, from the tv programme Amazing Spaces, leaving the ground after a game...not sure if he had been there following Rovers or whoever we were playing on that day.

Only English non-league club to win the Anglo-Italian cup

First club from the English pyramid to win a game in the Scottish Challenge Cup

Last part-time team to beat a top division team in the FA Cup

Celebrity fan is Tim Vine. His brother Jeremy has been to a few games in the last few years.

That was Harrogate where we were 3-0 down at half time and he got substituted - celebrity fans - in the mid- sixties Sir David Frost used to come our games and also more recently Simon Caulder the BBC travel corespondent.

We’ve got you all beat. Quite literally the biggest Cobblers fan is none other than basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal.

We are the only club to have a kit launch in the UK's tallest building (The Shard).

Could be the highest kit launch above sea level, but don't know what floor it was on.

Didn’t Reading do one from space the other year? Like on a weather balloon type thing so on the edge of the atmosphere.

We hold the record for the biggest defeat in a league match 13-0 at newcastle in 1946

On the plus side we are the only team outside the top flight to get to the quarter final of a top european competition the 1980/81 cup winners cup (now the europa league) loosing 3-2 on aggrigate to Carl Zeis Jena.

We were the first club to have two goalkeepers sent off in the same game, we lost 5-0 at Hereford. One of their guys scored a hat-trick and all three goals were against a different goalkeeper.

Who scored the hat trick?

That's a pub quiz tie break question if ever I saw one!
