Farage is the only man who could defeat Corbyn. If they had any sense the Tories would make a bye-election happen in a safe seat and vote him leader. Imagine Farage & Trump, would be savage.

Farage is almost twenty points less popular than Boris and within five points of Michael Gove, of all people. Been reading too much MSPM again, Aber lad.

Who called the election gone almost perfect? Farage may be detested in metropolitan areas but he's got lots of fans up & down the country. Any marginal constituency without a big uni population would be his for the taking such is his popularity among the working classes. I don't like saying it but if the Tories want to keep power there isn't a better person they could turn to.

I think most people don't much like him, but don't necessarily distrust him either. If he made an election promise I think the electorate would believe he'd follow through on it more than anyone else the Tories would put up there.

Like Eastleigh, Salisbury, Bexhill and Battle, South Thanet x 2, Bromley and Chislehurst and Buckingham all were?

"Specialist in failure" as someone once observed.

I don't know how this wouldn't send the considerable Liberal fraction of Tory support running for the hills. Seems like you're only called working class these days if your accent is a bit funny and you support a reactionary. Still, plenty of people with funny accents who work in call-centres, who clean your bogs, who drive the transit vans who don't like the fucker one bit. In fact, if he had to rely solely on the 'workers', he'd get fucking routed by Corbyn, because his base comes mainly from the self-employed and the managerial class.

I'd have thought that Farage was more liberal than most Tories.

Outside of the big smoke and cities with a big student population Labour didn't perform that well with the people you describe. It's big positive swings were actually down to people from more comfortable backgrounds and those who went to university. The higher the share of people in a constituency who have a degree, the larger the swing was from the Tories to Labour.

Elections are all about personality and May couldn't inspire a fat man to eat cake. Tories only won 65% of leave voters and 57% of 2015 kippers. Farage is massively popular whether you choose to accept it or not. He led a party from nothing to 3rd in terms of votes won at a general election and won the referendum vote obvz. He's the only person I can think of who would stand a realistic chance of repelling the Corbyn insurgency. Underestimate him at your peril, he'd sweep up if he ever got into position.

But what Farage and UKIP did was to carve out a niche as a "plague on all their houses" anti-establishment figure/party. He brought together people from across the political spectrum who were disillusioned for various reasons, but a lot of those people would never had voted Tory and a lot of Tories would never vote for Farage. That's the problem with the notion of him being Tory leader - he'd be too divisive and alienate a lot of people who admired him in the first place. There's no way, realistically, the parliamentary Conservative party, would buy into him as leader. Smooth political operator he may be, but I think his shtick only really works when operating from the fringes.

As a rabble rouser, Nigel Farage has been effective, but as a politician he's a lightweight.

Nobody can doubt that he has acquired a place in British history.... what you think that place should be is up to you..... but to claim that he can win elections, when he couldn't even win a seat in his own right despite standing for election to Parliament 7 times between 1994 and 2015 tends to suggest that is somewhat optimistic. He decided not to stand for election in 2017. Seven times bitten, eight shy, perhaps? He says that he prefers to fight the EU as an MEP. Fair enough. Again, you can make your own mind up about that.

Come March 2019, he won't even have a seat as an MEP.

He certainly rubbed people up at the EU with his abrasive manner and gained a following for that. There's no doubting that he tapped into the "We want to buy our bananas by the pound" British mindset. But we're now seeing the realpolitik of Brexit and it's proving difficult enough to make any progress as it is. Farage's Rub-Sandpaper-On-An-Open-Wound approach to anything remotely connected to the EU would be entirely counter productive.

Since the Referendum UKIP has become a political irrelevance, such is the fate of single issue parties once their single issue is resolved. Farage's dalliance with Donald Trump is over, Trump having as good as given him the bum's rush once he (Trump) became President. Nigel who..??

The BBC mocumentary "Nigel Farage Gets His Life Back" was rather cruel I thought. Portraying him as a vainglorious individual attempting to maintain his place in the public eye from his garden shed and being increasingly marginalised as the politics roadshow moved on without him. Somewhat harsh, but in the end though, the portrayal of him as yesterday's man was probably not entirely inaccurate.

He's got a daily radio programme on LBC which gives him a platform for making his point . Perhaps he should settle for that

He's your Prince too, Aber. As is his brother. And his dad.

For the record though, I don't like all this emphasis on racism. It isn't necessary or helpful, but I'm afraid it has to be said that Nigel does have form. Anybody who so volubly goes out of his way to support Trump and Marine Le Pen has to come in for scrutiny.... whether he once had a German wife or not.

If anything having a German wife should cause him to come under greater scrutiny.

Hitler had a German wife.

Strange how the spate of bomb attacks in Sweden have barely been covered by the media over here

Truck driven along a cycle path...bloke jumps out with a couple of handguns. Shot before doing any more damage. Beyond barriers everywhere, it's impossible to stop?

Didn't even realize there had been a spate of bomb attacks in Sweden tbh

Me Neither.

I have no idea what he's talking about. And I well would. There has been some minor stuff going on with the organised crime, but no terrorist attacks. We've only ever had two, one suicide bomber killing only himself in 2010 and a truck attack, similar to this one, but that was in April.

When I mean minor stuff I really mean it as in it really shouldn't be of interest to media abroad. There have been no casualties and I'm not even sure which one he's referring to, they're not correlated and even then it's far from a spate.

It’s being pushed by those nerds and useful idiots from Breitbart/ info wars/ stormfront as evidence that Sweden is descending into hell. Then ofc credulous morons believe it is fact which leads to them stressing about a “ media conspiracy”
There’s absolutely no reason why you should know about this unless you have an interest in their affairs ( which I do for me sins)

I know, it's baffling at times. In january the next living standard report is coming and we'll be top three, as we always are. You'd think this whole immigration thing is going rather well. We've been doing it for well over 40 years after all.
