Neil Young would be a superb appointment IMO. He would certainly get you out of here and may fare better in the National at his second attempt with a bit more experience.
Can't complain at someone who has multiple promotions and a record breaking Conference North title on his C.V though the question is how much of Chester's success was based on momentum.

Nope but as along as the chairman employs his incompetent son as manager that will put players off. Especially seeing how poorly it worked out for Kendall and Walshaw who followed the money last summer.

Fair enough, was a genuine question. Jarman normally just hops around the Conf North picking the biggest wage packet up he can.
He was on a goal bonus when he played for us and threw his teddy out of the pram when he couldn't take penalties which was Matty McGinn's job. Jarman finished with 16 league goals just ahead of McGinn 15 (a full back) who had at least 10 penalties.

Happened once that, he trotted back to the centre circle as McGinn tucked it away. I quite liked Jarman, he always worked hard and gave 100% in fairness. I think that commute from Scunthorpe a few times every week took it's toll in the end, it's probably bearable if you're winning like we were but frustration could easily overwhelm if things aren't. He left on good terms though which was good.

Good thread. I'll keep you all in the loop on FCUM.

3,000 fans expected for the test day later today at the new ground.

I met him once with his girlfriend at some M5 services after he'd scored the winner v Gloucester City at Cheltenham. Smashing bloke and although he had a long way to go was happy to chat about the match. Never really knew if that goal bonus thing was true, until someone in the know told me if was. He's been our best striker after Michael Wilde and Chris Simm.

Just don't let him manage in the Conference Premier. We all remember how that went last time. :mell:

Yes but he would be more experiemnced this time and would know what to expect. And unlike Chester he wouldn't have got promoted too quickly like Chester were 3 straight promotions was a bit too quick!

I'll be keeping an eye on County next season as I fully expect them to get out of that league with Neil in charge. Don't be surprised County fans at the player turnover as it's a feature of his management style. If they don't toe the line ... they're gone.

I think County should try and sign James Walshaw, that's assuming he wouldn't come back to Altrincham. He was absolute quality for us, better than Damien Reeves IMO, and I love Damien Reeves.

Good Conference North player, but good enough for the step up?

Add to that that he's a massive tool.

Big congrats to Curzon making it to Conf North, I had a 6 month spell there a number of years ago, though mainly in reserves so always looked for scores since. Was the last season at National Park. Cars used to have to park behind the goal and we were working on a free kick routine one night at training which resulted in me rifling one in the top corner, but with no nets in and taking off a nice Mercs wing mirror! Safe to say we swiftly darted back into changing rooms after that!

Gary Lowe was in charge of first team then and I trained with them quite often, wasn't the most endearing of managers I've ever played for.

I'll quite happily see him manage us in the conference because that means he has got us up which is something we haven't even been close to in our two years in the conference north.

We ideally need a targetman and a forward with pace to add some variety to our other strikers and Walshaw doesn't really fit the bill. Saying that I wouldn't turn down a striker with his record at this level. Reckon he will go to Fylde though personally.

I hope you're right but it is a tough task with the amount of bank rolled clubs in this league nowadays. Speaking of turnover he is already hinting at trying to move on some of the 8 contracted players. He has been watching us quite often in the past 14 months apparently and seems to know the players which is a big plus.

What formation and style does he tend to play?
Any ex Chester players that you think he would look to sign?

Youngy probably overthought leading us in to the Conference, unlike the few years before he made a decision to dismantle that record breaking side that won the North and replaced them with ageing over the hill has beens who let him down badly. I can’t see him making that mistake again.

Anyway, pleased for Neil and hope he is successful at Stockport.

Looks like Solihull Moors are throwing money at it in pre season. .

For fucks sake not another one these jobs. All these clubs are the same, 200 fans all sat in a piddling little stand on the half way line.

Nicky Law is staying on as manager on a decreased playing and mangerial budget - Official - http://www.alfretontownfc.com/news/CHAIRMAN BACKS LAW IN MANAGER ROLE-2772.htm

We'll never play you again, good bye. :bye:

A belated well done to Curzon Ashton for rising to the Conference North. Five years ago when we started off in the Evo Stik North you were easily the best team we played. Great ground too!.
What the fuck? :fl: It's an appalling place, unless you've only gone there to buy an under cooked sausage roll and a packet of crisps. :dk:

Money run out at North Ferriby, Boston happy with their squad and players are realising the money at Harrogate isn't worth the hassle so being Gainborough's top earner seems a good option.

More likely they've seen through the pretence that Harrogate is better suited to the working man's game than it is to cream teas and scones. :bdick:

Good managerial appointment for (maybe no longer) Stuckport. I hope he does really well with them. Strange they can't have their own thread on it though, it'll clearly get a decent amount of replies in so why not.

Because its a Conference North issue. If we had a thread for his appointment then it could lead to a thread for every appointment made in Conference North and South.
It was just to try and help keep the forum tidy?

If more of you want a separate thread then let me know and I will be more than happy to open it :)

I don't come on here often anymore but I find it strange that Conference Premier clubs can have their own threads about shit like pitches, manager sackings etc, but confence north/south club's can't. No wonder you don't see any conference north fans on here.

But yeah, happy with Neil Young.

I had mentioned Neil Young and our search for a manager in this thread over the last few days so it sort of made sense to keep it in here. A few more Conf North fans seem to be joining so join in and lets argue again like the old days.

Any reason why Stockport have struggled so much at this level? What budget have they been working on?

Haha I do think I've got a point though. For managerial appointments etc there's nothing wrong with having an individual thread, if the conference premier clubs can then so should we.

Bogie signed a load of awful players, then couldn't handle the pressure so walked after 5 games, Lord came in as caretaker, stabilised us, put a decent team together, but tactically he was clueless, we've got a decent team but Lord just signed a load of strikers, played too many kids and his tactics cost us. So basically it's been down to managers.

Yeah, some County fans like to paint it as if we have a shit budget and there are loads of clubs being bankrolled but from a friend who plays at this level who Stockport were actually interested in signing it's a lot of twisting the truth. Budget has always been competitive. Some of our highest earners are on £20k+ part time wages.

It's because we're not famous anymore. The slippery slope has begun! Seriously though I feel this board would have more engagement from Conference North fans if it didn't feel we were shunted into one little thread.
