The weird thing is, everything Oxford fans said about Wilder, what he'd be like, what he'd do, the style he'd play, the players he'd buy etc has been completely wrong and pretty much the opposite.

But then again we are waiting for someone to f**k it up, even if it's not him...
Can you tell that we are not used to this and we don't know how to react?

Sigh. For the 1000th time, no Oxford fan disliked Wilder after 18 months. He had just got us promoted, after all.

This is something out clubs have in common. Oxford fans are desperate to make up rumours of things going wrong.

Northampton are 11 points clear of 4th with a game in hand, I can't see them fucking it up.

I'm struggling to see anything other than the current trio going up automatically now. Losing to Oxford was a blow and even though we'll only be four points behind them if we win our game in hand, it's still difficult to see us overtaking them based on the performances of both teams yesterday.

That could change if we sign one or two players that would be the envy of every other club in this division, but we'd need to put an excellent run together.

That's exactly right. It was after that, when him and his mate Kelvin Thomas thought they were bomb proof, that it all started going pear shaped.

And once people dared to doubt him was when all of the snide comments came out of Wilder's mouth, along with the closing of ranks between him and KT.

Don't count your chickens just yet Northampton fans............

At the moment, I don't think we'll get into the playoffs - 2 points from the last 3 games has seen us drop to 10th. We've still got 2 games in hand on most teams near the top, but our FA Cup game next week means we'll slip further from the pack.

Our next home league game is Accrington which could revive, or eradicate our hopes of promotion.

Id be suprised if Northampton don't go up.not the best team I've seen this season but played to their strengths and have 2 proven goal scorers at this level.i expect them to go up as champions.

I think with us it depends what we do this month. We're still one possibly two players short of being a promotion team and we're just a little bit too inconsistent.

If we can make a couple of good signings in key areas, I won't rule us out. But it's worrying how shit we've become, the way we're going we'll finish bottom half.

As far as the other teams go. Portsmouth are by far the best we've come up against of the top sides. That day they looked like a team from a different level to anything in this division. We scraped an undeserved point.

We ran Northampton ragged in the first half at their place but their clinical finishing was the difference for them.

Plymouth at home (well Blackburn) were well organised but won due to a couple of very fortunate deflections. Wasn't overly impressive with them going forward, but they were well drilled.

Oxford were decent at their place but we more than matched them and were worth our point.

No Oxford should have won because they hit the bar in the last minute meaning their chances were better than ours.

As for us going up Greg I would forget about it unless we make some seriously big signings next week which I doubt it as we only bring in kids on loan now from clubs like QPR who have no experience whatsoever. I just want this winter to be over so we can get back to normal and forget about the flood fucking our stadium and season up.

It's weird isn't it, Plymouth were the best side we played at home, Portsmouth ran them close though. Plymouth at their place looked a totally different side though and not as good. Could be perhaps that we have just got better as the months have gone on.

Round and round in circles.

You can say something similar about most managerial tenures after their initial impact. There are very few who move on to better things, most are relieved of their duties (sacked) or mutually agree to leave (sacked)...

We (Plymouth) have been missing our two best attacking players over the last few months Reid and Carey and are a different team without them Reid has been back a few games now and usually takes at least 5 to get his sharpness back carey came on for a few minutes yesterday so should be back proper in a few weeks I think if we can keep these and our other important players fit we should stay on top 3 with the gap we have but I expect Pompey to come back strong as they are definatly in top 3 of teams I've seen this season (Accrington are top)

Did Carey come on against us the other week? Whoever it was you looked a much better side when they came on!

Not disagreeing with you - just not quite sure why this translates into Northampton fans constantly asking for opinions on Wilder based on five years, then criticising our statements on how things were after five years.

Accept we were happy he moved on, we accept he's made a great start to life with you, it's a fact that both teams are better off than they were before the switch, it is a tiresome thing to discuss. But equally it's hugely frustrating to be told you're wrong about something you never really said.

Yeah and you don't cry about me making a stupid prediction before a game, either. I'm interested in what FootballMad thinks.

Oh why Oxford are just so great and they should at least be in the Championship and I wish I was a fan of theirs because Carlisle are so terrible and we deserve no recognition at all and should forever be labelled as minnows and be looked down on from every other league club. :(

Is that good enough for you?

I don't recall anyone asking for your (or any Oxford fans) opinions but we appear to receive them? I haven't said anyone is wrong on any opinion, because that is what they are, I just offer an alternative one...

Every time something Wilder related is posted, there's an Oxford fan (usually that obsessed Eric Read chap) shoehorning their way into the discussion to slag him off!

Anyway we've got a tough February, think we've got 6 league games, including Orient and Oxford away and Wycombe at home. Should hope to beat York (h) and Hartlepool and York (a).

On the last page, a Northampton fan asked for comments from fellow promotion rivals about how we thought Northampton would do. I think that's absolutely fair game for a comment on your managers ability to get you promoted, even if I don't agree with the view (as I stated, I think you'll win it).

Yes some Ox fans talk about him more than I would choose to. But this seems an odd thread to make that stand - if we are not your promotion rivals, you can only really mean Plymouth. If we are, we aren't shoehorning ourselves in by responding to a direct question.

To be honest I wasn't looking for a critique on our managers ability, perhaps should have made it clearer

New to this forum, was on the old TFF... Reluctant to start by wading in to a tiresome Wilder discussion, but he won't fuck this lead up. He's a good positive manager when things are going well, and I can't see things getting nervous enough for Northampton for him to go into 'make five loan signings, stick 10 men behind the ball with Asa Hall and Simon Heslop on the wings' mode. Northampton gave us more of a game with 10 men than most have with 11 this season. They'll go up.
