A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
where has Rees-Mogg suddenly come into being important??....he has always seemed like a backbench loon.

I don't know about being important, he is still just a back bencher and I don't think he's a particularly electable front bench candidate. But since politics has become a wailing match with no middle ground, anyone who can actually string a sentence together seems unusual. And incidents like the other day only help raise his profile.

your mate is lying to you.
Why would he he's a lifelong Labour voter although he says he can't vote for them with Corbyn as leader,he'll be voting for an independant if one stands.

My mate drinks with him in his local pub in Somerset and says he's a lovely guy who is approachable and will speak to anyone who wants to engage with him,if only more MP's were like that.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-politics-39131617?

254 MPs voted to continue helping unaccompanied migrant children, and 1 voted against. But hey, that 1 person will talk to anyone in the pub! Unlike some!

We gotta pay more attention to the message and less to how it's being delivered.

The implication being what, that voting against it makes him a horrible person? I would vote against it too, it encourages people to hand their kids over to traffickers to get their foot in the door, and only helps to kids that were already in safe European countries to begin with.

The irony of a life long Labour voter not voting for them because they have a guy leading who is more closely aligned with the values of the party than any other leader Labour have had in our lifetime is brilliant.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

Better that they die in their own countries, yeah? Fuck those kids.

Only if he has the backing of a tame media who seem to be reluctant to point out that it was just 'some people shouting' until he strode over to try and look important, and one of his backers (possibly security team) hit a woman.

Leveson 2 cancelled. I long for the day when our country isn't being run by spineless, greedy pawns of print media.

I'd suggest you tell your mate to look on the they work for you website and look at Mogg's voting record to learn what a horrible piece of shit he really is.

The DUP deal was always flawed, sadly the DUP won’t campaign for better rights for the “smaller countries” as a whole, they’ll just campaign for themselves. Vile bunch, the Tories would have more respect as a minority government.

Then again at least the Tories aren’t forcing members of their cabinet to stand down for no apparent reason.

The Tories are happy to quaff expensive wine/beer and scoff nice food in the subsidised Commons restaurant yet they want to take away meals for poor kids. Absolutely disgusting.

I think I saw that the House of Lords blocked the move.

Boris’s recent nazi comparison for Russia: I know this gets asked several times a year but just what does he have to do to get sacked?

It wasn't actually his comment, the comment was made by some Labour MP. He didn't challenge it though. Seems he's unsackable if that's a word.

Does anybody else think that this whole Russian spy poisoning episode is just a whole load of made up bollocks and they’re just making it up as they go along?

So who do you think did it? Why would any other country try to kill a father and daughter living in The UK who posed no threat to anyone it's obvious to anyone Russia was involved as it's what Putin does to anyone who says anything against his oppresive regime, speak out and start planning your funeral as he can't accept people who defy his corrupt government that stuff their bank accounts with crooked money, Putin is worth a fortune all on dodgy financial dealings with his friends he is as corrupt as many third world leaders.

I think you’ve missed my point. I’m throwing it out there that the whole thing is total nonsense and is simply a distraction/manipulation technique employed by the government because they are in total chaos.

Thank you for your well thought out intellectual response it's one of your better efforts but yet again you fail to prove you're not a clown
you think two human beings can survive military grade nerve agent 100x stronger than the vx which merked off the north korean within minutes and I'm the clown :fl:

this never happened - it is quite obvious.

The clincher for me was the “there is no antidote” line that has swiftly turned into “they’re both much better now” as though they’ve just had a harsh bout of tonsillitis or something.

:2thumb:

this whole episode has been quite scary though.

media narrative within minutes of the supposed attack/ the absolute categorical insistence it had to be russia/ limiting the intelligence to jezza (he had privvy but not full lowdown like milliband when syria kicked off) / "of a type developed by russia" line that was accompanied whenever the governement made official statements/ boris' utter lie about being assured by PD top brass and getting away with it.

then you have people like mowgli still frothing at the mouth about putin :fl: I give up

I'm no expert on chemical weaponry or international espionage and I don't imagine we'll ever have incontrovertible proof so this is basically a case which lends itself to a balance of possibilities kind of appraisal. I know who I'm not inclined to believe and it's the ones with a penchant for state-sponsored violence and political assassinations; a state so unscrupulous, untrustworthy and frankly desperate for national status and glory that it ran a doping programme as comprehensive as any seen since the heyday of the East Germans. To be honest, I think they rather gave the game away early when their initial response was to pitch into a Trump-esque Twitter war which included veiled threats against Russian exiles in the UK. To say this is not in line with normal standards of international diplomacy would be something of an understatement.

This idea of a British plot seems highly fanciful to me. I have little doubt that HMG are keen on distractions (which governments aren't, from time to time?) but I'd suggest that engineering a spat with Russia isn't really a particularly great way to go about creating a diversion. It's not a fight that Britain can win and does little but create a short-term diplomatic storm, a headache that no one really needs. Even if poking the Russian bear was considered a good ploy (highly doubtful), any political capital you could make from painting Corbyn as weak on defence and security is probably going to be somewhat negated by reminding the public that you've installed someone as ill-suited to his brief as Johnson at Foreign. With a compliant press onside, there's surely easier and rather more satisfactory ways to make hay.

I take your point about Russia, but let's not play the transparency game given our foreign policy history and the fact that, as you allude to, only the other week our Foreign Secretary lied on air about knowing the source of the Novichok agent, meaning the BBC had to cover for him.

The Windrush stuff is completely outrageous and utterly shameful. I would say, quite sincerely, that this government is indecent and immoral.
