Think Vince does have the potential to succeed in test cricket, just needs to learn not to flash outside the off stump.

Vince is fucking shit. There are at least 10 better batsmen playing in the county game that deserve a cap over him. Style over substance.

Ok, feel free to name 10 more deserving players to bat at 4 for England. I can think of maybe 2 or 3 at max.

Alright bruv :hypo:

So half your list is openers, gone and a few I'd disagree with anyway ie Abell. Billings - no, hasn't done enough in first class cricket, in fact he's had 2 innings this year. Buttler - injured, also his test record isn't great, also hasn't played 4 day cricket this season. Leaning averages 20 this season. Duckett is starting to make his case, I'd say ODI squad and a tour with the lions first.

While he's deserved to have a shot Hildreth is just not going to happen, so really the only ones on your list are Malan and Borthwick who I would agree are the competition, just a case Vince's impression he made in limited overs cricket will have given selectors some faith in him, plus he's been hitting 30's and 40's this series, but failed to push on.

It's lovely to see 'straya struggling again in Sri Lanka - bowled out this morning for 106 for a first innings lead of 175. Sri Lanka bowled and fielded superbly this morning. It's great that Rangana Herath is still going strong at 38 - he took 4 wickets including a really good hat-trick.

SL have lost both openers pretty cheaply but you'd be pretty impressed if 'straya manage to avoid defeat from here.

Did someone just put Billings forward for the test side? LO player and nothing more, miles away from the test squad, despite being the more naturally gifted keeper. Definitely just a random name to chuck in surely??

We need to pull our finger out today, bowling, batting and fielding has been awful thus far. Would fancy us against anyone right now but not with performances like this. No lack of credit to Pakistan though.

All sorts of stuff going on in the CC this morning.
75 runs for the last wicket at Canterbury
Somerset 0-3 in their second dig

Could be worse, try being an Aussie batsman. They might get bowled out for another record low against SL at this rate (25-3)

Oh, and hahahahahahahahahahaha:brill:

Sri Lanka bowled and fielded really well in the first innings but it did look pretty good for the spinners. Sri Lanka looked like they had somewhere to be and wanted to get it all wrapped up inside 2 days - they were about 35-3 from about 5 overs when I stopped watching this morning.

Somerset have somehow managed to get a lead of 180. It'll be a brilliant effort if we can win this.

Fair play to Cook here, don't know if it's been deliberate or not but he's done his utmost to take pressure off Hales.

I think you can put a lot of it down to the fact Pakistan have not been very smart bowling to him. Cooks cut shot has been fed quite regularly by the bowlers all series. Great job done by the openers to near enough wipe out the deficit though must be said.

For me, this is far and away Alex Hales' best test match innings to date, the first time he's really started to look like a proper test match opening batter.

Footwork better, shot selection significantly better and a nice straight bat particularly off the back foot. Regardless of how many he goes on to make from here I think this innings will really register with the selectors as a milestone in his development.

All over in Sri Lanka. Dilshan Perera finishing with 6-70. Sri Lanka have absolutely battered Australia:cool1:

The key thing has been his newfound ability to defend with a straight bat and play the ball back from where it came from

Impressive stuff from Sri Lanka. Guessing it was just a case that they failed to adapt to the conditions over here then as they looked like a bunch of amateurs earlier in the summer

By the same token, the Aussies have failed to adapt to conditions there. Oh dear, what a pity, how sad.

I'm always gutted to see the aussies lose [emoji38]

Goes to show how evenly balanced many nations are these days as in the past the top couple of nations in the rankings would go round winning test series' wherever they were
