Declaring after 60 overs on the first day of a test match is not something have ever seen before. Shows just how much McCullum and Stokes have changed the mindset. Some say it’s reckless how England play but NZ have crawled along in their innings and as a result find themselves 37-3 instead of say 100-3.

It's all about putting pressure on the opposition as much as possible. By saying we can smack 300+ in no time at all then it starts to take the concept of batting out for the draw away from other sides. Unless they dig in for 3 days there will be a result one way or the other. Some times it won't work and we'll be out for 150, but the talent is in the side to get a good score more often than not.

I'll go as far as saying that what McCullum and Stokes are doing is an absolute revolution in the game. They will be viewed as history makers. It's batshit mad but fuck me it's brilliant.

Bang on and its notable that this is pretty much with the exception of Brook and Duckett the same group of players that were there under Root and Silverwood. Just shows how sport at that level is governed by mentality more than anything. The great thing they've done as well is they've laid the marker down to players in the counties that this is the expectation of them in how they play if any want to force their way into this setup so it's going to be long lasting even when they both move on in the future.

Certainly helps when you have a Harry Brook in the team.

Then Jimmy doing his usual stuff with the ball .

Harry Brook is a cheat code, what a player he is.

McCullum/Stokes just know how to get the best out of everyone, just giving confidence and freedom. You can see how much the players enjoy it and it's a breath of fresh air

Yeah it's not the classic test approach and I miss that a bit but I wouldn't back most of these lads to bat out a draw or take the sting off the new ball, sum of your parts, like football work with what you've got. We are a class white ball side so just take that into tests. We will win far more than lose and I'm backing us for the next test championship.

In years to come just in terms of the sports psychology aspect they’ll be doing multiple in depth studies on this team as to how it can translate into other sports. To play this way you have to have completely eliminated the fear of failure which Stokes and McCullum have done spectacularly.

Obviously there’s still room for the more “traditional” way of playing but say you’re on a turner in India is it better to just sit in and hope you don’t get one with your name on it or is it better to look to score and not let them settle? I think the latter makes more sense even if it has risk.

Let's get the banter going for the Summer/winter, another Ashes series where you will be taught a lesson.
Sandpaper all around, you'll be buried quicker than Shane Warne this summer

Good position for England at the end of day 2. The first innings lead was probably not what they were thinking of but Blundell batted really well for NZ. Got through a tricky spell under the lights at the end and scored at a good clip. Decent chance to push on tomorrow.

At least it's good to see sides try to attack like Conway and Mitchell did.

..... Wasn't he cremated?

Got to be able to sand the bails down after our bowlers have shattered the pommie stumps.

Yeah, Nah, Yeah! Would be great to have a full on attacking series and partnerships that last longer than a pair of England openers.

Would be great if England can take their batting into day four leaving the Kiwi's a day and some to win the match or lose it.

No, why would I they've just been humiliated, thrashed, murdered by India.
India are a talented team, have to admit that. But when we play England it's as if we have super powers?
