a lot of changes have been made since they were beaten by iceland.

the same bunch of players again and again, no matter of the outcoming.

Hey Rooney, you havent scored for 10 games now and you are in doubt by fans across the nation, do you want to be our skipper?

a team full of players that could handle the pressure of ko matches would be great i think.

hur hur

If you're incapable of picking a patently better side from the players we have you could have just said so.

But that wouldn't be the situation replicated. Rashford is English with no links to Germany, this Dembele kid has links to England and Scotland.

If a 13 year old of African descent, who was born in Germany and moved to England at a young age, decided to join the Germany international set-up, I wouldn't give a shit. Largely because the 13 year old clearly wouldn't be English and has every right to play for the country of his birth, and also because he'd be fucking 13, being good at 18/19 doesn't guarantee a career of any note, let alone being good at 13.

Er, well, obviously, but I'm stating were Rashford born in Germany but moved to England aged 8 (with parents from wherever). But if you want Sterling is a good (and real) example, he moved to England aged 5, neither of his parents are English and he wasn't born there. By the same basis you are recruiting Dembele, Sterling should really be playing for Jamaica - indeed his connection Jamaica is far greater than Dembeles is to England as at least his parents are from there too.

Right, so, according to your second paragraph Sterling isn't English? Hmm, okay, I'd say he is. Just like Dembele is clearly Scottish.

With regards to your final point, yes, I've said this throughout - the overwhelming likelihood is that Dembele won't make it so him taking advantage of the money now makes entire logical sense.

It could be that he is just trying out the English set up for a comparison - unfortunately, this is a comparison Scotland won't do very well in. The English FA are significantly richer than us and probably have people cleaning the boots of even the U-15s.

Our beloved Queen is the Jamaican head of state, any Jamaican who wants to represent us in any field is welcomed by me. We gave them the legendary Wes Morgan, I'm sure they're not moaning like you.

And even if Dembele doesn't make a single appearance for England, he'll always hold a special place in my heart for how he made a few silly Scotsman like you get their kilts in a twist.

My mistake, I thought you were being serious.

How silly of me.

Squad announced tomorrow so who would you go with bearing in mind that theres quite a few players not available with, Kane, Sturridge, Rose, all out Henderson.

I'd go with this

Keepers: Hart, Forster, Heaton

Defenders: Walker, Clyne, Stones, Cahill, Smalling, Keane, Bertrand, Cresswell

Midfielders: Rooney, Lallana, Sterling, Wilshere, Dele, Walcott, Barkley, Redmond, Winks, Dier,

Strikers: Vardy, Rashford, Welbeck, Carroll

Without Kane and Sturridge (is he ever fit?) the options up front are so poor. I'm glad to see Carroll in the fold as he does offer something different but how long until he's injured again?

Is there any need to select 5 centre backs and thats not including Dier who can play in that position aswel and he's also selected 7 players who can play out on the wing, its just pointless space taken up when you have players like Wilshere getting left out its just ridiculous and Jake Livermore getting picked ahead of Wilshere to start with is just laughable.

the options up front are so poor. again?

Says something when of the 3 its the guy in his mid 30s who is in form whilst the other 2 haven't set the season alight like they did last season.

Guess its the problem when 2 of your potentially better strikers in Sturridge and Welbeck are so injury prone.

Probably just shows how important Kane will be - if he isn't taking corners!!

As stated above the squad seems top heavy - lots of defenders and midfielders (interesting to see Chamberlain called up ahead of Walcott)

What's Wilshere done this season though, other than actually playing this time round. Hardly set the league on fire has he? Hasn't massively stood out at Bournemouth either has he?

He's pretty consistently been one of England's best players when he has actually played. Now he is playing consistently the argument is he isn't good enough? Because I think he's proved that already, I mean that standard to get in the England team isn't exactly 70's Brazil. Livermore isn't the definition of setting the league on fire to be chosen ahead of him, and Wilshere bailed us out multiple times in the last qualifiers.*

*Disclaimer: I haven't actually watched him this season either but understand he's been ok, which is about as much as you could say for half the squad picked.

Walcott should also be in the squad. 17 goals this season, compared to Redmond (6) and Lingard (seriously wtf?)(4). Especially in a squad bereft of goal scorers.

Happy for Defoe he's been playing well.

I think Ox might have been called up as a CM rather than a winger which is where he has been in excellent form for us the past few weeks (in spite of us being shit).

Wilshere will be wasted like Scholes and Carrick were at this rate.

Yes, because Wilshere is a patch on either of those players and clearly deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them...

Im not saying hes not good enough, im just saying its not ridiculous that hes not been selected as the person i replied to suggested. Apart from some Spurs players there are very few standout English players in any position so I dont think many can grumble about being excluded.

You only have to look at highlights from a few seasons ago when we beat Slovenia 3-2 away to realize that Wilshere should always get selected when fully fit because we have no other centre midfielder capable of doing what he did that game.

Livermore is nowhere near international quality and i would have picked Shelvey or Delph before him any day of the week, both their passing range pisses all over his.

Phil Jones is absolute tragic of a player and and he's only getting selected because he somehow gets a few games for United, if he was playing for a lower premier league team like he should then he would never get selected in a million years.

In this context? Yes, he does. He's far more talented than anyone else we have in his position, just like Scholes and Carrick were in their respective positions. If you'd said a decade or so ago the same about them then I'm sure someone would have been chirping in telling you that Gerrard and Lampard were miles better.

Livermore and Redmond are very poor selections. The first is not good enough and the second is far too inconsistent to be a realistic selection.

I wouldn't select Wilshere at the moment either though. He solely needs to focus on club football at this moment in time. If fit, he'll go to the World Cup next summer so there's not much to gain by selecting him at present. If we can't beat Lithuania without him, then we're in a state not worth bothering about.

I'd have much preferred us to give Tom Davies or Harry Winks a go with the NT. Unless a player is absolutely smashing it in the Premier League (a bit like Alli when he couldn't not be selected), I think we're far too slow at giving younger players a call up. If they're good enough, they're old enough.

The more I see of Wilshere at my club every week, the more I struggle to see where his career is going and in what position his undoubted technique can be most effective.

You might be interested to hear that currently Dan Gosling and Drew Surman (both English) are our first choice CMs ahead of Wilshere, and we've stopped using a number 10, so he's been sat on our bench. Jack Wilshere sits in Bournemouth's bench. And our results recently more than justify that decision from Howe.

And to his credit, he's not whinged about it, and when brought on for the last 20 mins he does his job and makes an impact. Is that good enough for England though?

Agreed. Start Rashford in both matches, as without Kane he's our best striker option with the longevity to boot. I've been calling for Defoe to get in the team the last few call-ups, but he shouldn't be anything more than an option from the bench now, no guarantee age would not have finally caught up to him for Russia. Hope we don't see Vardy, never impressed me outside of last season's Leicester team.
