Would rather have gone out than drawn.

Normally, a cup run is vital for me, but we've had Chelsea away this this season, that's enough. And actually, since Clarke has taken over, I've noticed how distracting and unwelcome they are.

If youre midtable, theyre the best things in the world. For promotion or relegation candidates though, they can bugger off.

There is no way Rovers will go down. In the matches I have seen there are plenty of worse team than them. In my opinion your safety is assured.

Fook sake, we've lost three times all season and two of those have been against Accrington... Something like 1 win in 11 games Vs them so shouldn't be surprised

That we're through was the only positive to take from today's game. Awful performance with Stevenage deserving at least a draw.

Another injury to add to the ever growing list. We'll lose in the replay.

Easy win really, good old fashioned cup tie though so that was good entertainment.

So I'm wrong to be looking at ourselves as play off candidates right now?

By your logic, Scunthorpe should be looking over their shoulders too, be lucky to finish top half at this rate.

Not my logic at all.

Difference is, Scunthorpe are clearly the best side in the league currently and 10 points seperate them and 7th place. There are only 6 points that separate you and 20th place so by your logic, everyone all the way down to Southend is a promotion candidate.

I like Bristol Rovers but it's quite conceivable that they could be midtable come the end of the season.

Remember that handball goal you scored against us after making us go down to 9 men by cheating? That's why.

We were awful.
Macclesfield deserved to win, they'll be disappointed not to have scored more than one.

Concentrating on the league now, on that showing we can look forward to a relegation battle.

Don't recall that. Think you ought to get over a result from over 5 years ago.
Anyway, no one that was here then is here now (bar the fans).

Was that a normal Swindon performance last night in terms of style?

Wasn't there today (nor were many others tbf) but we got booed off after winning!

Sounded a grind but more positive than last seasons first and second round ties!

yep, side ways, sideways, backwards, lose the ball, it really has been football for insomniacs, our Horlicks sales at the club are now zero!
To be fair Friday night was a little better, but not a lot, with such a youthful side they have to a certain extent lost confidence and are frightened to make a mistake, and to put the right ball through, hence the passing across the field and back again.
Hey , but its nice to be in the draw for the second round if only to the replay, which I'm not to confident we will win!

Not quite sure what table you're looking at? There are 10 points separating us from 20th....

However, Southend are in 16th and are 4 points from the play offs, so if I were them I'd cheekily have my eye on the play offs too. You're 4 points off, take away your off the field troubles, can you honestly believe that no Charlton fan has looked at that table and thought 'hmm only 4 points off the play offs'?

The original point that I'm getting at is that right now we're pushing for the play offs and making ourselves promotion candidates (the table doesn't lie), so going out of the cup would be fine with me. If we finish midtable anyway, I'm more than happy with that, I wanted us to avoid relegation this season!

Yeah apologies, got myself confused with Southend being on 20 points not in 20th place!

Of course fans are eyeing up the play-offs. My point is that you said long cup runs can hinder the season of promotion candidates, the third round is in January, so a long cup run for a league one side is going to go into at least Jan/Feb. 3 months away. Just seems a bit premature to call yourselves promotion candidates in the first week of November.

Wasn't meant as a dig as such, I think I've said on here before that I've a soft spot for Rovers so a Gas/Charlton promotion will do me!

Confucius says: Scunthorpe are the real c*nts and having not enough points for safety are still relegation candidates.

They were very welcoming hosts. Decent day out and we got to shuffle the pack a bit which should make it easier to field a reserve XI on Tuesday night. Would love a similar draw in the second round.

Ah fair enough, I see your point, although I still believe they're a distraction. Last time we had a good cup run was back in 2008 I think, we somehow got to the 1/4 finals of the FA Cup as a newly promoted L1 team and I remember how all day and night I couldn't not think about the cup games, I'm sure the players must have felt the same too.

Anyway, looking forward to our away game against Charlton, I'm hoping I can make it as it's the night before I fly back after the Christmas holidays.

A win, 3 goals and a clean sheet, unheard of.

Solid draw in Hursts first league game and comfortably win in the cup, hopefully take some confidence into the league games now as we have a mountain to climb still.

Sitting on the floor of the long train up north, next to the toilets and the other people who haven't reserved tickets. Going to watch the Wombles in the first round of the cup against a team we played 2 weeks earlier and will play again 2 weeks later.

God I love the FA Cup. I hope we get through and get an easier draw. Greatest competition in England, giving small clubs the chance of a big cup tie against the top teams.
Did you bump in to Jeremy Corbyn by any chance?

This was about the time I went to quite a few Rovers games with a few blokes I had met in Barcelona.

If I remember rightly you beat Southampton in that run and were eventually knocked out by West Brom? Seem to recall Ismael Miller scoring.

That's the one! Sir Rickie Lambert scored the deflected free kick before getting spanked by West Brom 5-1 I'm the next round.

That was a cracking year though, I think it was Barnsley, Pompey (who won I think), West Brom and Chelsea in the semis. Much more interesting that normal years

Think it was a Barnsley Cardiff semi final? Well Pompey certainly beat Cardiff in the final.

I think it was the year before, when Rovers were knocked out by Derby in the 4th round? I went to that one (Charlton must have already been out) remember a perfectly good Rovers goal being disallowed.
