Why 1998 is that when football started in Doncaster? For most clubs it started at least a hundred years prior to that
Just stating a point in time to show how poor our season was last year. As you hear most of the time in football. “So and so team finished the highest they have done in over 30 years”. Really is not hard to understand :L

Not tough at all. Let's face it, we're only really each other's local rivals when there's nobody else in the division. It's hard to be jealous of a club with such an apathetic fan base to be fair. I'm sure you'll be back half filling your stadium next season if you're up near the top of the division, but it was just quite sad to be almost outnumbering you in your own backyard in April.

For the record, I completely agree with you on your squad and McCann. Going under the radar right now and I reckon the early signs are that you'll be having an automatic spot push next season.
In April half of the fanbase were boycotting because of the complete lack of vision the football club have shown over the last 3 seasons. Season ticket holders were staying away and the renewals were at an all time low. It has worked as we did get a change in manager and are now finally seeing some work done by those at the top to get us back to where we were.

That’s a very simplistic view point, we made just over a million for getting to the final in 2013 and had more games and obviously far bigger games against the likes of Villa, Arsenal and of course a game at Wembley. Most players have cup appearance/bonuses to consider as well and things like policing costs, VAT. Regarding spending £250k on players if that’s transfer fees that’s a lot, probably more than we’ve ever spent at this level, wages are what take up most of a budget transfer fees are quite irrelevant. The word in the grape vine is we offered Williams £5k a week and Gillingham have beaten it, maybe they are putting all their eggs in that basket, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the transfer window unfolds.

Slightly pedantic, but we made around £1m from our Wembley visit alone. The total amount earned during that Cup run was just over £2m. £250k of that went towards players’ bonuses.

We actually earned more getting to the FA Cup quarter-final in 2015 - earning just over £2.5m.

Your point still stands regards to VAT and the Gills figures being exaggerated.

Our owner Brad Galinson is actually using a hashtag for the club of "sleeping giant" on Social Media.

I suspect that it is somewhat tongue in cheek as he is a pretty humorous guy but it might feed in to your narratives, so you can have that one.:cool1:

We get linked for everyone whether it's true or not. Really don't see where he fits in our squad.

Maybe Parkinson was just being a dick though.

Haha, I know it must be tough for you cod heads to see your closest neighbours in this league actually putting a squad together finally.
Yep it’s really tough, didn’t sleep a wink last night worrying about it what with you being our ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE rivals like.

OK, from a personal point of view I do believe we are paying high wages for players we want.
No point denying it.
We would not have been able to attract players like Lapslie, Hawkins and Williams from other league 2 clubs if not.
We do have a wealthy owner.
I have been following the Gills since God was a boy and we have never been in this position so I admit, I am rather enjoying it.
To date , however, we have only signed two free transfers, one of whom has been on loan to us twice.
We cannot really classed as fully going for it yet, but I do think we will.
There you go, my honest assessment.

A creative midfielder is probably the last player we need. If we sign a midfielder it’ll be an engine rather than flair.

Our CEO has just been reported as saying our turnover has increased to 20mil, so we probably should be Going for It a bit more.

For context that 75% of a Gillingham cup run.

That will get bigger and bigger. You will get to the Championship in no time. I could see the Premier League if the momentum keeps going. The marketing, the sponsorship, the fans in the States etc. It is inevitable.

Will it still feel like Wrexham to the die hards? Probably not. Will the die hard fans care? Maybe for some aspects but probably not the on pitch stuff.

There are already grumbles. People whose usual match day routines have changed- want us to be playing preseason games against the local teams, can't get juicy gossip from their board member mates etc etc.

Personally I'm all for it, 15 years in that hell hole preceded by a decade of largely crap times and I'm ready for a bit of success. I also don't think this pair are going to leave us in a mire- however long it lasts we will end up in a better position than where we were (no ground, no training ground, no reserve team, no women's team, turnover of around 2-3m and rapidly heading to regional football)

I'd imagine you probably feel much the same as County's trajectory has been similar to ours.
