So it didn’t work then

It worked tactically. Without that change we’d have won it earlier IMO because we didn’t have to worry about the ball in behind at all and could just push higher and higher.

Fairly un-magnanimous interview from Rowe, but can understand why he would be gutted.

Excellent from Burchnall, not afraid to change it at HT in a huge game, take a CB off and switch systems. We looked loads better after the break and Boldewijn was a different player - the Chessie LB will be having nightmares about him for a while. Was basically attack v defence, although the injury to the keeper made a big difference. Rowe will take some stick for not having a keeper on the bench and taking his namesake off, but I’m guessing he was struggling in the heat having just had a bug. Had to be Tyson to miss the sitter tho!
We were just trying to see 2-1 out weren't we after our best midfielder went off and keeper was walking wounded. It was probably the right decision to do that but Rowe has a habit of boiling a loss down to 1 bad decision by the ref and that worries me. I mean yes the ref had a shocker buying that farcical dive, and maybe he's trying to protect his players publicly but we lost because Evans lost his man for your winner totally and Tyson missed 2 one on ones. Hard to fault the geezer for what he's achieved here though. The off season will be very interesting, we've got a lot of crap like Evans to get rid of and the incomings will need to be absolutely bang on, starting with getting Clarke signed up on a permo.

I was pretty confident we would win within about ten minutes because you decided to sit so deep and try and see us out. Generally when teams do that we’ve got enough to overwhelm them because we commit so many players forward. Think that was probably where you fucked it, injury aside.

Maybe you're right there, we could have pushed for a 3rd a bit more or at least done more to keep you honest at the back. It is risky though given the specific situation we were in. Tbf I am disappointed in all 3 goals we conceded, all easily avoidable, but that's why these players are playing at this level I guess right...

The correct move would have been dropping sir Danny into centre midfield imo. He would have comfortably controlled the game as he was easily the best player on the pitch. He does that and Chesterfield progress

Asante would have had a field day against that high line County played, it was an enjoyable but crazy game.

We miss him greatly
I look forward to having him in the side to do all this positional drifting around that Rowe tends to do, leave Rowe to poach. If them 2 stay fit all next year there's 30+ goals in them surely

Agreed, the prospect of those two together is mouth watering really. I still think what Rowe needs to aim to achieve in the summer market is adding some pace and flair to this side with an added winger or two

I suspect you're right there. Tyson won us the game last week so deserved a go but with hindsight perhaps Mandeville would have been the one to shift.

All in all, it's been a good season and one we can hopefully look back on and say it was the turning point for CFC. We aren't going to be far off next season so look out!

You're right there. We need a rock solid CB, maybe a left back, and some pace and guile in midfield. Maybe a striker as cover for Asante/Rowe too. Hopefully Clarke fills one of those spots.

It feels like the turning point doesn't it. We're in so much better hands with Goodwin and the Trust than the last crooks

Very true indeed. The club was rotten to the core following the previous regimes spell here. This board and this manager have stabilised us on and off the pitch... and perhaps most importantly, they’ve reconnected the fans with the football club. Onwards and upwards from here fellow spireites

If you sign someone like Asante with his injury record, you can't really complain about him being injured when he invariably gets injured.

A torn ACL injury from the result of an awkward landing after a tackle has absolutely fuck all to do with having a poor injury record.

Injury proneness only comes into it when it’s a repetitive muscular injury

See he’s fooled you as well, he lulls the week minded into a false sense of security then bang. Goal. His football brain is beyond these lot. You can see that instantly
Look forward to it next season

Nonsense, if someone has a break or ligament injury it doesn’t impact them getting injured again. That’s like saying Evil Knivell wasn’t injury prone.

You do realise ANYONE can tear their ACL if they fall awkwardly and twist their knee with weight on top don’t you?

Correct me if I’m wrong but unless Asante has torn that ACL previously then any of his other injuries have absolutely ZERO bearing on the fact he tore it

Fuck Mark Ellis, Nathan Tyson was our MOTM, what a legend.

What a game. We were like a load of Mansfield girls out on the piss in defence, but hopefully we’ll tighten up for next week, and I do think being away will suit us.

Great to be back though.

I think you might go up mate to be honest, that manager has the look of a winner about him, clear today he's not afraid of making big decisions early and that Wooton is a proper poacher. Seems like he always scores against us tbh. I hope you do it

You sexy stylish magpies

Chesterfield set up well to frustrate Notts but better team on the day just about got it over the line.

I can see us going Kamikaze one center back at Torquay... It just seems to work for us. Love Connel but we just look more balanced without him
