But it's just about expectations, they've finished 13th or above in 6/10 the last seasons, also won the championship. So they have both the up and downs, and some stability. They also got Rafa in and have paid reasonable money on some players.

It doesn't even compare to the troubles some lower league clubs have had.

In terms of pure interest and excitement, they're right at the bottom. Those big money signings are a joke (remember, they hadn't broken their own transfer record since Michael Owen), and no other club at that level would have a clown like Steve Bruce in charge. It's a marketing tool for Sports Direct, and who would want to support that?

Something I found out is when darell Clarke took Bristol rovers down to the national league they didn't drop into the bottom 2 till the last game of the season and there last game was against Mansfield with Colin Daniel scoring the goal to relegate them. Vales last game this season with Clarke in charge is at home to Mansfield.and so far vale haven't been in the bottom 2 so Mansfield could send another darell Clarke side down.

Didn't the same happen to Lincoln in 1986-87 when Torquay survived on the very last day (in no small way due to the help of a police dog called Bryn!! :D ). The first club to suffer automatic relegation from the FL.

Incidentally, the "now mighty" Burnley ended only one point clear of the drop zone that season.

Also we had to lend Mansfield our shirts that day as both there sets clashed with ours. ie We went down on the last day playing a club playing in our shirts.

Crawley played Bristol City (at Crawley) on that day.

The scenes of joy around the ground and in the bar really surprised me. I knew you were rivals but...

Are we down yet?

I notice a few clubs are making a big effort to join us in non-league; will Vale, Colchester or Carlisle manage to lose so many games that even Barrow and Southend can actually catch them?

I think not.

I think we might have left it too late to make a serious push for relegation, however I think the table at the end of the season will make it look as though we were right among it.

To be fair, you were pretty shit against us (both games) and we are so poor we allowed you to draw both games.

Bolton is a free hit Saturday then we’ve got some more decent games on paper really. We looked far better tonight and three big players returning from injury’s was a massive plus...

Being honest though hopefully the return of the holy one will pull us through... a week or two he should be back to replace Guthrie!

More confident we will be ok after tonight but should have hammered Oldham and drew so!

Yeah was a funny one the first game as we were playing well around then too. Mostly we played well at home and not as good away, but still. I was reminded it was only a howler from your keeper that kept us from losing that one too.

i thought clarke took over after the game?

That was an utterly bizarre game, especially when the rovers fans thought there were city fans in our end when they weren’t

Actually there were City fans in the away end as some sat near to me.

Correct.

Interestingly enough we had to beat you on the last day of the same season to stay in the league. We were that skint at the time we had to borrow players from non league to field 11 players. We won 1-0 and then went on a run that nearly saw us promoted to what is now the premier league.

Bizarrely enough there was a Bristol City fan sat next to me at Wembley in 2016, purely because he said he absolutely hated Forest Green Rovers.

He was proper going crackers too when the goals went in.

Those four points we gave up against you from winning positions might make all the difference this season; we'll be 24th instead of 23rd because of those games!

With all the hate they shower on Bristol Rovers and Cardiff City I'm surprised they've any left for forest green

Who hates Forest Green? They're an annoying corporate plaything, but it's hard to feel too emotional about them.

One of the most pivotal games in our history, and I bet most Exeter fans have no idea it even happened!

No Clarke assumed responsibilities a couple of games previous. But no one really blamed him. It was down to John Ward. There were a couple of " Shitheads " in that side. But nowhere like when Wycombe sent us down previously.

Seeing as we were under an embargo until December I think it's only fair they expunge all results before that date and start a fresh. Seems fair to me...

I actually feel sorry for Barrow fans; managed to get back into the league, only to find they can't watch their team and may well return to non-league straight away. Having said that, I would be 'over the moon' if we stay up because they are worse than us over the course of the season (Christ, they'd be shit if that was the case).

Gotta feel for Barrow fans, they finally get back to the Football League and the one year they're up none of their fans can watch. It'll be almost like it never happened.
I don't feel sorry for them at all, I'm jealous. The past five seasons have been absolutely dire and we didn't have the option of watching at home for a tenner a pop until recently. At least they'll only have had a shite time down at the bottom of L2 for a year and not spent thousands of pounds following them around the country.
Every week I keep expecting Grimsby to get on a run. Every week they don't. Question is would you keep Hurst if you went down? Given he got you into the league
I would yes, because I think he'd be able to assemble a solid enough squad with the right characters to do the job. The football won't be pretty, but with a higher end budget in the Conference and Hurst we'd compete. The one aspect of this that I'm not so confident about is that when he came in before he was an up and coming non-league manager. He brought players from Boston that served us incredibly well and he had his finger on the pulse regarding who else to bring up from the division below. I can't see that being the case again.
Whoever Grimsby have on the last day can take comfort from the fact no fans are allowed in the ground, so they don’t have to witness a pitch invasion and smashing the toilets up like last time it happened....
Still banging on about that? Is it officially the biggest thing that ever happened in Burton? From the town that brought Carling over to the UK, I'd have thought you'd be a bit more accustomed to atrocities. Obviously what happened was nasty, but there were plenty of Town fans way more disgusted at what happened that day than the Burton fans, but please go ahead and tar us all with the same brush. Maybe look at your own club for some ownership too. Happy to take not only the money from us to fill your away end and but then to take additional revenue by using one of the home ends as an overflow area for more Town fans, but not willing to fork out for adequate police/security.

And seeing as we had honest Ian Holloway as our Manager for roughly the same time as that I fully agree with you, get them expunged!
